Mario Kart is basically the only racing game I'll enjoy...
Ah, that is a good one. I bet there are a lot of people who feel that way.

While we are at it. I know "tennis games" is not exactly a huge genre, but I loved Mario Tennis an ungodly amount. Later I thought maybe it was the tennis part I enjoyed so I tried other, real tennis games. And hated them.
idk what it is, but for some reason all mario sports games to me are a blast, i can sink tons and tons of replayability into it with just myself or friends

OT:

fps's usually bug the hell out of me and i usually can't stand them one bit, but CoD:mw(the first one) i slowly began to like that and i played the hell out of it and i slowly started to play other fps type games, now i dont mind the genre so much, but still i think its an OCD thing, as i can't stand tunnel vision

I'm too intimidated to try and play strategy games, yet the Yugioh games were like heroine to me, really addictive.

Personally I don't have a rule as I like try out many games. Although... maybe I have a rule against JRPGs that I really like denying.

Admit it, it's because of the boobs.
No its not because of the boobs.
... Its because of the Jiggle Physics and the Boobs.
But the jiggle physics make the boobs look like sentient creatures trying to escape from their cruel human overlords. Real boobs, no matter how big, do not jiggle that aggressively.

Man has been debating jiggle physics since the time of Plato.

I'm not big on console action titles, but the Grand Theft Auto series on PS2 is near and dear to my heart. I usually keep a PS2 around exclusively for sports games.

I dislike puzzle, racing, and platformer games. However I do like Portal, Mario Kart, and Mario cannot be hated for any reason (except for the fact that he is the most overused character ever made).

I hate sports games but I liked a silly football (soccer) game you could play in arcades some 15 years ago, where you could aim the ball to knock out cameramen behind the goal and things like that.
Any chance of figuring out what that was? That sounds freaking hilarious.
It was hilarious (mind, I was 13 at the time), but the chances of figuring out what it was are pretty slim by now. Me and my friends have been wracking our brains over it for years. I've never seen it or heard from it outside that arcade, which is long gone.

RTS and SimCity.

I always sucked at both. I have all the strategy and forethought of a skittle
I would love to see some of your SimCities then. Generally I am the same way and my cities come out hilariously incompetent.

I used to only like playing 2d-platformers, RTS, and RPGS. I used to loath the idea of playing FPS games, but I made an exception to the rule when I played Deus EX. I had heard it was a great game, so I picked up a cheap demo CD for it (long after it was popular). I played through the first three scenarios (which is all the disk gave you), and I was pleasantly surprised. I loved playing the game, so much so that I tracked down a copy that a friend of mine had in his storage. Sometimes those exceptions to the rules can become something more. Now I can add FPS games into my list of favorite genres to play. Though I'm still not to enamored with puzzle based games, I might find an exception to the rule there.

Fifa '02. I have never loved a sports (non-racing) game other than this. It rocked, for the week I had it rented.

I don't usually care for browser games, but I find Pandemic II to be good fun.
There's a kind of a sense of accomplishment & grandeur that comes with the little message "No sign of human life in Indonesia".
Curious, is that because of Indonesia specifically or just any area being bereft of life? I have rarely heard of an anti-Indonesian bias.

Nah, it doesn't matter the nation.
I was just using Indonesia as an example.
Makes sense. Very fun game, too. Are there really no other games on, say, Kongregate that you like?

Deepest apologies if this has been discussed to death. It is something that interests me and I was looking to see what other people had to say.

Looking around, it is obvious that people tend to be partial to certain genres. After all, tastes will differ. But it seems that with most people I talk to, there are genres they do not care for either.

For me, that genre is FPS. I have played a lot of them from Doom to Quake 3 to Half-Life and on. While at times they were mildly entertaining, they never grabbed me like a good puzzle game or most fine RPGs do. It was not that I was bad at them, I just got a very limited amount of satisfaction from them. So when my brother suggested I give Fallout 3 a try, I was dubious. The only real reason I decided to dive in was because the story and setting was very interesting to me.

Pretty much immediately I was immersed into it. Unbelievably, it has become one of my favourite games. One of the best Christmas presents I got was the Game of the Year edition. Granted, there are some RPGlike aspects to it, but it is decidedly FPS in my book.

So! What games defy your own preferences? People who do not care for RPGs, is there an RPG you love? Sim haters, is there a sim title you can sink hours into?
Have you tried system shock of Stalker? I think you would like both of those if you enjoyed Fallout 3.
Btw, F3 is more of an rpg with shooter elements.
For me I have to say I absolutely hate real time strategy's soooooo much, but recently i happened upon Sins of a solar empire, and I've finally found an rts that actually is somewhat interesting.

I dislike driving games but I do love the Burnout series, with Takedown being my all time fave, it was a game me and friends spent hours on and the crash radio always amused me :D
