I come to the Escapist specifically to use up time when I haven't got much else going on. Wow, reading that was inspiring. I salute you, good sir or madam.Korolev said:Of course I have faith in humanity. We went to the moon. We sequenced the human genome. We harnessed the powers of electricity and radioactivity. We went from cave dwelling morons to a species that can understand the process of nuclear fusion that occurs in a star which eventually converts hydrogen to the higher elements that we are composed of. We went from "Rock-smash-on-head-steal-food" to "we are made of remnants of a star itself".
And of course, my faith in humanity will never erode, because I am a human. I am part of humanity. I think of myself as a good, somewhat kind, reasonably intelligent person. If I can be, so can others. I am not so arrogant to assume that I am the only good person on the planet.
Only someone with no self-esteem and no good qualities could ever completely lose faith in humanity. Only someone who can see no good in themselves could then declare that humanity has no good in it.
You don't make any difference between misanthropy, an ancient philosophy, and modern teenager skepticism. Two very different things. I mean, just because some users here like to end hteir posts with the zero faith in humanity phrase doesn't mean they have a well thought-out moral or philosophical position. It just means that someone saw a phrase somewhere they thought sounded cool and want to repeat. Neither should it been seen as misanthropy.AverageJoe said:Its just a fad phrase from the misanthropic teenagers of the gaming community, they'll grow out of it. The over 20s who still don't see any good in the world though, well I pity them.
and yeah I agree theres a lot of bullshit pointless threads here, again, started by the teens. I just ignore it and post in threads that interest me. The maturity level isnt very high here, as much as they like to say it is; mostly due to the age groups, thats just something we have to deal with or go to a different forum.
There are exits in every gun store, high ledges and buildings and nooses you can make. Not seeing any good in the world you may as well take them, seeing little good in the world is fine.Saelune said:Do I count? I wont really be over 20 (21) until august. I dont actually care if you pity me, I just want to know for curiosity sake.
(Im one of those people who dont see any good in the world. I assume you guessed that, but my assumptions have been wrong enough before to include disclaimers more)
because of Trenched? the upcoming release of EDF: Insect Armageddon? Mass Effect 3? Saints Row 3? Skyrim? i only have video game examples, but even then, it's a good time to be a gamer these days.lacktheknack said:It's never been higher. And it's going up and up and up!
