Empires: Dawn Of The Modern World is really fun, and a game that I feel no one knows about except for me and my friends. When we LAN with it in the WWII age, our games last 5 hours minimum. Its awesome.

Joust! You ride on an ostrich, right? And you fight other people riding ostriches, 'kay? So you fight these other guys by running into them with your lance, and they drop eggs, and there's this lava and-

...why are you backing away slowly? Hey!
joust was decent but there has been way better in that era but I started and got so pissed I couldn't stop playing it for a while.
When they released it on XBLA, I giggled uncontrollably for ten minutes, then spent the next three hours in pure bliss.

Planescape Torment

With Unreal coming in as a close second.

Oh, and Shogo: Mobile Armor Division in third.

RPGs: Planescape Torment, Ultima III, Exile III (I never liked the Avernum remake even half as much), Betrayal at Krondor

Strategy: Archon (I+II), Dominions (though the last part isn't really out-dated)

FPS: Marathon. I want a remake of that.

The Marathon series is now freeware. You can download it from http://source.bungie.org (download AlephOne and whichever map pack you want, from Marathon classic right up to Tempus Irae, or some of the more obscure mission packs)

Xcom Apocalypse. I was just a kid with a vivid imagination, and oh boy, the real world ceased to exist for me while I was playing this.

You are confusing outdated with old... there are games for the C64 which I would still find more compelling than those on the 360.

Anyway my answer is: Elite.
To compare to Elite's feats as they were 20 years ago, a game nowadays would have to last ten thousand hours and contain a sandbox city the size of the solar system.

Duck Hunt.

After a long day, I'm always able to go home and try to unleash my rage on that fucking dog whenever it taunts me for missing the duck.

Oh I could pull anyhting out of my massive box of PS1 games and say that but most of all, I liked Mortal Kombat 1, even though the only time I got to play it was on a emulator, it was still awsome as hell and suprisingly easy *o* but games I never played but watched gleefully at because I am not that old ;), would be Wild Arms and maybe Resident Evil.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. As well as being fun I loved that everything in the game is so believable; they did a lot of research for it. Also, planet busters, [excuse me] BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
