Red House Painters - Down Colorful Hill
This is album is nothing short of incredible. It has this reoccurring theme of regret and unhappiness throughout, and the lyrics hide nothing. That's the important part of this; the songs aren't afraid of anything. Mark Kozelek (the front man) isn't afraid to openly discuss and question his mental health, to discuss regretting how your life has turned out, to venture over the 10 minute mark and go into soundscapey gorgeousness. I appreciate this album because this, and the rest of the Red House Painters discography, are the most honest music I've ever heard. Nothing is restrained. And because of that, it resonates with me more than anything else.
Radiohead - Kid A
This is the most important album I've ever discovered. It single-handedly opened my mind to a million other genres of music that I never even considered getting into. It's beautiful, haunting, atmospheric to astounding degrees. The lyrics are incohesive and make little sense ont their own, but yet they fit with the music like a beautiful jigsaw. The first 4 songs are the greatest 4 songs in a row of any album I've ever heard. And while I may prefer Red House Painters over Radiohead, they were the band to really get me out of a "genre" mindset and encourage me to explore anything and everything. Kid A (and Amnesiac) more than anything else.

Ah City, what a phenomenal album. You can be as low tuned or as growly as you like, you'll never get heavier than oh my fucking god. That breakdown melts my face. '97 was a good year for The Dev!MiracleOfSound said:

Actually, I think the only album I don't like was the self titled one. Except for relentless of course. Fucking awesome song.
When I stop being a poor bastard I'll have to get the other albums I don't have (the physicist and accelerated evolution) It's hard to be a fan of someone so ridiculously proficient!

Physicist is really good, kind of like halfway between Strapping and his solo stuff. Accelerated Evolution is long and drawn out but a grower... has some awesome pop-rock tunes on it too.

That would have to be Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles. Not only is it chock-full with catchy songs, but the whole album is presented as a fantasy concert by the titular band.
