Your favorite author?

Who is your favorite author, and why?

I ask this because I've been reading, and listening to Douglas Adams recently, quite a lot, and I have fallen in love with his writing.

Jim Butcher, by far...Author of the Dresden Files and the Codex Alera. I'm not going to recommend him because if you pick up one of his books then his writing speaks for itself.

Mmmm, that's a tough one.

I like Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow books, but I kinda left the series at that point. They still were very good.

Dante Alighieri was a great poet, not an author in the strictest sense, but I loved Divine Comedy

Animal Farm was a great book, and perhaps my favorite book of all time. So I guess it would be a tie between these guys.

While I wouldn't call him my favorite author, per se, I most consistently enjoy the works of Darren Shan. Maybe it's just because I grew up reading his Cirque Du Freak series, and kept the love into my adult years, but I've enjoyed literally everything he's ever written.

Favorite, technically, would probably be Orson Scott Card.

Hmm, probably David Eddings, author of the fantasy series the Belgariad. Was the first set of books I actually read that I could sit through (close second being Harry Potter) mainly due to the fact that before my dad lent me the David Eddings books I didn't have access to fantasy novels.

Anyways, great series of books, simply love them.

Hmm. Well I really love Kurt Vonnegut; and especially Slaughterhouse Five, mainly because of the interesting new view of time in that book. But my favorite things to read are the Sherlock Holmes stories so I think I'll have to pick Arthur Conan Doyle

Fyodor Dostoyevsky is probably my absolute favorite because I like the way he writes and how he blends philosophy into fiction.

Stephen King is my other favorite because he just writes really good horror stories, even though there were a few that weren't that great, in my opinion.

I don't have very many, so I'm always looking for new authors to try out.

I recently found Harry Connolly's Twenty Palaces novels to be very much to my liking. I like his style and the world he created. His version of magic and beasties are different than what I usually see(in a good way).

Stephen King for me. The guy has written so much and I've enjoyed pretty much everything I've read from him. Plus he wrote my favourite series, The Dark Tower

If you like Dostoevsky, then I'd suggest looking into other Russian authors, such as Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn (One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich) and Mikhail Bulgakov (The Master and Margarita).

I have 2. Darren Shan because I love the way he writes and I love all of his books. He creates such good characters and I love the twists in his books, the end of the Demonata series was brilliant and that entire series made you want to keep reading on and on and on. I also love every other book he has written.

My second pick, who is tied for first, is Mick Foley. Yes, the wrestler Mick Foley. He writes all of his books himself with a pen and paper, except for a part of his newest book "countdown to lockdown" he used a computer for part of it I believe. The way he tells his life story in his books is amazing, you would never believe that "The Hardcore Legend" would have such a heart of gold and such amazing stories. Mick also donates most of the money he earns from wrestling and books to the various charities he sponsors. His books are full of great life stories and events. He has such a way with words, the way he can describe such a simple event is amazing.

Unfortunately for me, David Eddings is actually second in my favorite authors list; the leader is Terry Pratchett for his Discworld series. Kind of like literary Monty Python, but he usually does have an underlying meaning in his books. If you like laughing and thinking while you ready, Terry Pratchett is for you.

If you like someone who hits all the cliches of fantasy-setting novels and does so gleefully and unashamedly, check out David Eddings.

Both authors are amazing.

Robert Harris. Fatherland is absolutely gripping alternative history, and Lustrum is also thoroughly entertaining.

I've never read Terry Pratchet but I think I may have to after seeing the TV adaptations.
