In the midst of all the platform, PC and hand held gaming technology I wonder how often people still play board games.

My favorites include:

Betrayal at House on the Hill http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/prod/betrayalhouse

The Settlers of Catan http://www.catan.com/

Both incredible games that change the field each time its played so the strategy and outcome is never known until it's all over. If you have never played these I recommend looking them up and finding out where you can. Post your own favorite games here, preferably with info links, so you can hook others.

For me, it's Dungeons & Dragons or Cleudo. Those games are just really, really fun!

I love Carcassone and Settlers of Catan. I'm also a huge table top role player and wargamer (Warhammer, Mordheim, Necromunda, etc.)

I've always been a fan of Clue, namely since I can generally just wander the hallways listening to what other people say, and make my guess based off of that.

Ninja'd by the OP. Go figure.

But seriously, I also highly recommend this game. For those not familiar, Betrayal involves a group of people exploring a haunted mansion. The first part of the game is exploring the randomly generated mansion until an event begins the "haunting," where one of the players turns traitor and the rest of the players have to go against him. There's like 50 different scenarios for this part, so the replay value is great. Its a ridiculous amount of fun.

Settlers of Catan is my favorite though Risk and Risk 2210 are close runner-ups.

However, in each of those games I usually set myself my own mini goals. If I happen to win while trying to accomplish my own goal, even better.

By far "Space Crusade". It was what introduced me to my main hobby (Warhammer 40K). Got it when I was 12 years old (I'm 30 now) and we still play it regularly at our local hobby store.

Simple, but brilliant game.

Pretty much any Fantasy Flight game, they take ages to set up, but are well worth it. I've got really into their Lovecraft games in particular- Arkham Horror and Mansions of Madness.

Of of course, like everyone else who's worth their weight in d20's- Settler's of Catan

And if you're counting tabletop RPGS- freakin' all of 'em man.

Really depends though. Certain games work well in certain places. If it's just a quick game, SPANC or FLUXX.

WHERE ARE YOU ALL?

Seriously, no one where I am likes playing Betrayal. I can't really figure out why.

Monopoly or Risk. Both are missions to play the whole thing though. As someone heavily involved in 'gamer culture' I've never actually played D&D. I wonder if that means I fail the entrance test.

Scrabble and Pictionary, simple classic fun.
I always want to play Scrabble AND Pictionary, but no one I know ever wants to play with me.
o_o They are just big sticks in the mud when it comes to classic board games.

D$D (though that might count as tabletop rather than board)

Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, and Chess
