So, a little something for any and all comic book reading parties: I was skimming over "The Long Halloween" the other day, and I come across the scene where Maroni throws his bottle of antacid in Harvey's face-- somehting just sort of clicked, and thus was this thread born: To put it simply, what's your favorite momnet in ANY comic book?

I have to go with either the aforementioned Maroni trial scene or the one from "Ultimate X-men" where Chales Xavier and Erik Leishner have a face-to-face in central park...I don't know why, really.

I loved the moment in a spider man book I read recently where he beat the everloving crap out of Kingpin while he was in jail because he hired someone to kill his Aunt.

Also, nearly all of Transmetropolitan and The Goon series are wonderful moments in their own ways.

In the Long Halloween, the issue about Thanksgiving, when Batman leaves a turkey dinner for Solomon Grundy. Something about that page, it's layout, the message, everything about it just kindof moves me for some reason. especially when Grundy reaches for the turkey, quietly saying, "Solomon Grundy, born on a Monday." If I were a crier, that'd bring tears to my eyes.

The birth of the Joker in "the Killing Joke". Guess it's just the insanity of it when we see the Joker for the first time(chronologically).

Ehhh...anything with Rorschach.

Or, to mention a comic I doubt anyone here but me has read, the moment when Rayek challenges Cutter and they're both standing before Savah, and Rayek starts boasting, but Cutter only gives a single nod. Badass, in a tiny elf kind of way.

my favorite moment in comics that I've read (not much), is the scene in Watchmen where Nite Owl and the Silver Spectre peel off their skin to reveal the costume and then embrace before being incinerated by a nuclear bomb.

when I first saw that, I was like "Holy fucking hell, that's awesome.."

then when I saw the movie, and I saw how they were going for a shot comparison motif, where important scenes were recreated to match the comic, I had hopes that the scene would be awesome.

and it was fucking great.

It's hard to pin it down to one definitive moment, so I'm gonna do one from each major publisher.

Marvel
X-Men #25: The climax of the infamous "Fatal Attractions" story arc in which Magneto finally does what we've all been thinking he should do and rips the adamantium from Wolverine's bones. It was a moment that always resonated with me because my friends and I always used to sit around and say, "If Magneto controls metal, why doesn't he do something awful to Wolverine?". The sequence is horrific to see, and what Xavier does to Magneto in retaliation is even more shocking.

DC
Batman: Dark Victory - The scene early in the book in which the newly orphaned Dick Grayson explores Wayne Manor, eventually coming upon the late Mrs. Wayne's room. It's a fantastic sequence, mainly because almost everything that Dick says and does is mirrored on the opposite page by a young, just orphaned Bruce Wayne in a flashback, really emphasizing the point that Dick and Bruce really are very similar in a lot of ways.

Dark Horse
Star Wars: Legacy - The scene in which Cade Skywalker has a conversation with the Force Ghost of his legendary ancestor, Luke. Cade's disdain towards Luke, and his outright admission that he's been taking Death Sticks to dull his connection to the Force, really drives home just how far he's fallen, and that if he can't redeem himself, the Skywalker line may yet end in darkness.

"I did it thirty-five minutes ago." and everything from that point on in Watchmen ~Hurm~.

Also Rorschachs back story and his line "The world will look up and shout save us and I'll wisper, NO!". Creepy...Awesome!

Kraven the Hunter's death in Kraven's Last Hunt. The only truly poignant death in comics.

"They said my mother was insane."

Batman beating the living crap out of Superman in the Dark Knight Returns.

John Constantine giving the devil the middle finger and saying "Up Yours" in Hellblazer.

In the Sandman where a man peals away his stomach and a flock of crows fly out.

The Swamp Thing, after we all thought he was dead, regenerating on a far away planet. The comic that follows is one of my favourite storys from Swampy.

Dr Manhattan on Mars telling his origin story.

The Ultimates, where Captain America has an alien by the throat. The alien tells him to surrender. One of the greatest lines of all time follows. "Surrender? SURRENDER!"

[spoiler/][img/]http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/ianinozzie/UltimateCaptainAmerica.jpg[/img]
Theres also a moment in a recent issue of the Boys which was so disgusting and hilarious that I don't think I will every forget it. Warning, it is truly, truly disgusting.

[spoiler/] Wee Hughie (who looks like Simon Pegg) takes the blond girl (AKA Star Light) to his apartment, where she spends the night. Wee Hughie gets down on her. In the morning, Butcher and Mother Milk come to pick him up for the work. Butcher rings the door bell. Hughie gets up, in his underwear, his back to us, and walks to the door. He opens the door and Butcher simple stars at him with a shocked expression. He then chuckles and tells Hughie to meet him at the car. Puzzled, Hughie walks into the bath room and looks in the mirror.

Theres a circle of blood on his upper lip and all over his chin. Hughie puts his head against the wall and says "Oh no" while in the next room Star Light lifts up her covers saying "Umm...I think there's been a bit of a timing issue"

The next scene is Hughie sat with his arms crossed in the back of the car, mother milk and butcher on either side of him. As soon as he tries to speak, they burst out laughing.
I literally had to just put down the book, close my eyes and giggle half to death for about 20 minutes after that scene. Seriously, if you love violence and disgusting humor in a clever comic, pick up "the Boys". Its by the guy who wrote Preacher and invented the Punisher.

Those moments when I read Swedish comics such as: "91:an", "87:an", "Lilla Fridolf & Åsa-Nisse" and "Elvis" are made of pure win.

There's a great issue of The Maxx where he enters his favorite cartoon which is effectively a rip-off of Doctor Seuss' stuff. Everything in that comic is said in rhyme, the entire thing is just fucking tripped out. At one point Maxx takes off his mask and it turns out his face is just kidney beans.
There are also a lot of moments in Invincible that I think are awesome. Pretty much any scene with Allen the Alien. There's a lot of good stuff in that comic.
Can you tell I'm an Image comics guy?
