So we have all these fun little "whose your favorite character" threads. Well as a rather academic scholar of Dracology I realized there's TONS and TONS of video game dragons out there, so let's go crazy, and have everyone share who their all time favorite Dragon in Video Games is and why? Go!

After rescuing the baby dragon from a viper and handing it off to King Truffle to raise, it comes to rescue the party from the collapsing Northtown castle.

My favorite is Nafalilargas from Redguard, a game a played a lot as a kid. The conversation with him and ensuing boss fight was one of the most memorable parts of the game for me, and I still remember it 15 years later. Admittedly, given the overall quality of the voice acting in the game, I probably would have a less favorable opinion of the encounter now, as an adult, but when I was 13 it seemed super cool. So cool that most of the fantasy stories I wrote around that time all included a character based on Nafalilargas.

I couldn't find a clip of the conversation, and I didn't want to sit through a bunch of lets play footage trying to find it, so here's the dragon's first mention in the game (skip ahead to 3:38):

Flammie was pretty cool, but not as cool as Matango, The OTHER Mushroom Kingdom!

Hmmm, having never played Redguard I had no idea there was a dragon in it, I shame myself as a TES Lore Buff, I had to go read up on it.

Personally, I can't say I met a dragon I didn't like (except perhaps Nall from Lunar), but when it comes to sheer presence, awesome form, and a willingness to get her hands dirty: Alexstrasza takes the cake

Saskia 'The Dragon slayer'. She was a great character, and the twist finding out she was the dragon from the LaVallet battle was great. Not the most extravagant dragon design, but still rather intimidating looking leaning towards a more realistic look of what a dragon might look like.

A very likable and admirable person, and a more respectable 'human' than most regular humans in the series. I certainly hope there is at least some mention of her in Witcher 3, maybe even so much as a cameo if you let her live (seriously, if you kill her, you're a dick).

I'm going to have to go with the classics.

How is he not awesome? Either that or Chrono Cross's Red Dragon for being adorable at first then going complete badass.

Reshiram! My favorite Pokemon and one of my favorite video game characters.

Might as well put a cool gif in while I am at it. ^.^

Bahamut.

Bahamut all the things!

Whether he is friend or foe, you cannot deny the majesty and power of such an awesome dragon.

Can I go with the Macho Man Dragon Mod dragon for Skyrim?

Until I can think of another one I think that'll have to be my answer.

Kalameet from Dark Souls, easily one of the best boss fights I've played through.

Other than that I'd say the dragons in Baldur's Gate 2 are all great.

Firkraag from BG2. He's tough as nails to beat and he's a little bit insane. A giant red dragon that can buff himself to not take damage from hits made against them (Stoneskin), make you run around in a panic, buffet you away across his chamber, then blow fire on you doing massive amounts of damage... good times. He's so tough, that your character has the option to finish the quest without even fighting him, he basically taunts you then lets you go about your poor miserable life.

Paarthunax is also pretty awesome too. I'd love to actually join with the Blades sometime, but that'd mean I'd have to kill Paarthunax, which isn't gonna happen. Oh well...

I would have to say Jack of Blades, I really wish he had kept the status quo with Fable 1 and not gone the route he did with Fable 2 and 3, but there is no way to change history now. Jack of Blades came out of nowhere as a dragon, and as an opponent he made quite the compelling character.

As with movies, I don't think there are an awful lot of really good ones out there for some reason. There's a lot that are very cartoony (Pokemon dragons, Spyro) and a lot that are really gnarly and nasty looking (Dragon Age, Skyrim). Not a lot seems to hit the sweet spot in the middle. The Shadow Dragon from Heroes of Might and Magic 6 kind of falls on the nasty looking end of the spectrum, but I kind of love the purple it's got going going on;

Might & Magic has a good history of dragons in general, actually. The Might & Magic 6 dragons are pretty much my draconic ideal.

What's cooler than a dragon?

A dragon made of dragons, that's what.

(Pity the fight was underwhelming...)

I'll be going with Spyro from the first few games. Didn't particularly like the reboot and that thing from Skylanders just irritates me.

Paarthunax and Durnehviir are also pretty cool as well. EDIT: I also just realised that despite the insistence on those last two being dragons, they are technically wyverns. Does that still count?

Gotta second Spyro. How could you not love this adorable purple skateboard-riding PS1-era icon?

Now I feel all nostalgic for the first three games. Let's just...let's not talk about what happened to him post-Legend.

I also have a fondness for Seth. I used him for a mighty long time during my first play-through of Persona 3.
Kohryu is definitely better from a gameplay perspective, but you can't top Seth's badass dragonry. Though on second thought, he's more of a wyvern, so I'm not sure that counts.

I really quite like the Divine Dragon from Legend of the Dragoon, it's weird looking (not just because of the amazing polygon-esque graphics) like a snake with a single eye on its chin, scrawny and with 7 wings (yeah 1 side has 4) but I dunno ... it looks awesome in the cutscene and once Lloyd takes the stone from it's eye and becomes a wingley-divine-dragoon combo with the dragon buster he's pretty sweet.

I still wrecked him though :D
