Silent Hill 2 is also my favorite game. Yeah...sorry Eternal Darkness did all that before, but had fun doing it. Just playing, Eternal Darkness (on the Gamecube) was fun. But I really hate when I hear the comparison. I think...really?...really?

Favo-...I'm not so good with naming a solid favorite.
Devil May Cry 3? Timesplitters Future Perfect? Ratchet and Clank Going Commando? Armored Core 2? Megaman X Collection? God of War? ....One of 'em. I'd say the Disgaea games on that list but the PSP versions are better technically sooooo.

My favorite game that is on the PS2? Silent Hill 2.
My favorite PS2 exclusive? Kingdom Hearts 2

Other fine choices: Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 2 or 3, Devil May Cry 3, Persona 4, any of the Prince of Persia trilogy, any of the Sly games, MOST of the Rachet and Clank games, Resident Evil 4 (it was ported), Killer 7 (ditto), Disgaea, Final Fantasy X, God of War 1 or 2, Killzone, Okami...

I could go on and on, the PS2 has a really stellar library of games, and you can start wherever ya want!

R-type Delta or Final
Lumines Plus
The Next Tetris
Either of the Lunar remakes
Dragon Quest 8
Final Fantasy X
Street Fighter Alpha 3 (if you are hardcore about Fighting)
Puzzle Quest (Very unique Rpg)

Most of these came out the ps1 but get them if you can. I still listen to R-Type Delta's Soundtrack now. It's that good.

Edit: How did I forget FF7. I can play that game FOREVER!!

GTA Vice City (don't ask why, always preferred it to San Andreas)
Spider-man 2
Prince Of Persia trilogy (the sequels I think get more negativity than they deserve)
Ratchet And Clank 3
Sly 2: Band of Thieves
Simpsons Hit And Run
SSX Tricky and 3
Tony Hawk Underground 1 and 2
Resident Evil 4 (and Code Veronica X)
Devil May Cry 3
Burnout 3: Takedown (and Revenge)
Star Wars Battlefront 2
Beyond Good And Evil
Bully
And finally, Spongebob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom (No joke, it's actually insanely well done)

Hmm.

Final Fantasy X is at the top of my list.

The gameplay was terrific in Dark Cloud 2 (aka Dark Chronicle) - even if the story wasn't all that amazing.

I loved Star Ocean: Till the end of time and Dragon Quest VIII as well.

My absolute favorite has to be Kingdom Hearts II. I've played through that so many times. I also loved the Ratchet and Clank games.

I guess the game that is my favorite and have actually played on the system would be Final Fantasy X. I just grew up with it and appreciate the combat more nowadays.

I always had a soft spot for Front Mission 3. Turn based mech battle goodness at its finest. :)

Top honors has to go to MGS3: Snake Eater with runners up being the Kingdom Hearts games, Persona games, and GTA Series.

Timesplitters 2 and Timesplitters: Future Perfect are both tied as my favourite PS2 games. Making your own custom maps with secret areas and switch traps, then playing 4 player split screen Virus mode in them provided so many hours of hilarious fun.

Honourable mention to Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction because hooray for airstrikes! Damn it Pandemic, Free Radical I miss you guys.

Alot. But a mention i'd give to an overlooked great game would be Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven.
Great stealth gameplay, good graphics/sound and art, along with some fun co-op and versus.

I agree with a couple of games already mentioned: Star wars Battlefront 2, Kingdom hearts and GTA: San Andreas (GTA: Vice City is also great). But my personal favorite is Dynasty Warriors 5: empires. I would definitely recommend picking up a copy of this game!

Final Fantasy X

I like Tidus because he is one of the best FF main characters in the series, his supporting characters are ok (Lulu and Auron are great but the rest are all dumb) but he is by far my favourite FF protagonist. I also love the aquatic setting it really makes a change from the generic fantasy world of most of the others. Also the combat is better cos its turn based, the real time stuff you will find in the others I really hate. Hounarble mention to Pop sands of time (Prince of Persia lol) and Shadow of the colossus.

Tidus is great.

I've lost count of how many times I've replayed Jak II, so I'd say it's my favorite. Up Your Arsenal comes in a close second.

If we're not talking exclusives, I also loved the GTA games.
And I still need to get around to playing Okami. Why must my backlog already be so huge?

I don't want to derail this thread but can I raise a point that Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater was actually a load of self indulgent rubbish, even though it does seem to be a lot of peoples favorite game here. Forty minute cut scenes followed by an hour and twenty, then it will let you walk through a door before another cut scene. Kojima wants to make films, not games but the film industry doesn't want him. I loved the first two MG's but the team on Snake Eater didn't just smell their own farts but actually bottled them to enjoy later.

The bit that really insulted a man's intelligence was when his mum said that the Allies parachuted her behind enemy lines whilst she was nine months pregnant during the second world war. If that wasn't the last conversation before the last boss fight I would have thrown it out a window. I asked a friend about that and he said it was just very very Japanese. No, it's just very very shit.

Snake Eater was so bad it put me off even buying a PS3 as MG4 would be no better. I'm getting one soon as I have to play The Last Of Us, a game that will be on everyone's favorite lists soon enough.

I love the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, and Nocturne is my absolute most favourite game of all time, so there. Other games I recommend (others have mentioned them, but I'm just reiterating how great they are): Persona 3 Fes, Persona 4, Final Fantasy X, Devil may Cry, Shadow Hearts Covenant, Dragon Quest VIII, Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, Okami, Tales of the Abyss, Kingdom Hearts, and Shadow of the Colossus.

No mention of ICO yet? For shame, Escapist. Shadow of the Colossus has been mentioned a lot, and deservedly so, but I think it's a real pity that ICO has sort of been forgotten next to it. Not as ambitious or as epic in scope, but it's a more polished, focused game overall. Oh, and it's also amazing: really fun, challenging puzzle-platforming, deeply moving and one of the most effective portraits of intimacy I've seen in a videogame. Play it.
