Gears of War or CoD4, It's hard to choose. I got more attached to the characters in CoD4, and also CoD4 came to a proper ending, unlike Gears which wanted the sequel to finish it off, which it didn't -.-
Well there is still Gears 3

I'd have to say the Gears of War series so far...can't wait to see if you get to fight the lambent locust, even though it's still way off in the distant future.

[edit] Oh yeah and Bioshock

Okay so almost everyone else has already said it but: Bioshock. I just liked the audio messages you could find, it made the city seem more real because you could find out the stories of random people who'd lived there.

Also: Final Fantasy VII. I was only about 7 when I first played it so when replaying it in later years I progressed from my limited understanding (Sephiroth = Bad) to fully appreciate the depth of the storyline and the characters.

Also, Pandemonium because the story was so simple it could be summed up on one page of the game booklet but it still made sense :D

Oh so many choices. I think that Mass Effect gets the #1 place since that was the best part of the game. Gears of War and to a lesser extent Halo are also included, probably only because they have books out, which were decent. In fact, all 3 of those games have books.

I can't take the "Final Fantasy" answers seriously. I just can't...

Half-Life 2
Metal Gear Solid
EarthBound
Killer 7
Persona 2: Eternal Punishment

After reviewing hardcoregaming101.com, I've decided I need to try Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers. One of the supporting characters is possessed by a demon, so she has a split personality, each with her own static portrait for dialogue scenes.

Spikey haired boy who looks suspiciously like a pre-pubescent girl meets suspiciously sexualised pre pubescent looking girl and shows her his gigantic sword which is twice the size of him due to possible over compensation for a certain racial stereotype.

What's not to love?

Everything is not to love
sometimes I wonder why there are so many final fantasies, final means final, they've made way too many of them(one was probalby too many)

definately any of the Ace Combat games would have to be the best, although some of the events maybe a strech to believe they could actually happen the stories for each of the games are extremely well written

AC4: Shattered Skies did have both a good narrative and good dialogue. The radio banter was very believable. "Fox 2! Fox 2!"

Forget videogames, TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE (1986) HAD AN AWESOME STORY.
