I can never really remain attached to a soundtrack for too long, so my favorite is usually what I've been listening to lately, and that, right now, is the Bastion soundtrack.

Sonic the Hedgehog. Just simply EVERYTHING from the Sonic franchise. Questionable games sometime? Sure. Soundtracks? Kick more ass than should be allowed.

my favourite has to be the TLoS series and if I have to say just one I'd have to go for TLoS DotD. Love the sound track and Rebecca Kneubuhl and Gabriel Mann's work in it. (may have mispelt names slightly, I'm doing it from memory)

My absolute favorite game soundtrack is from the U.S. version of Sonic CD. An old game? Yes. Kickass music? Definately!

I will also add honorable mention to the soundtrack from the entire C&C series. Frank Klepacki is a musical genius!

And an all-time favorite...

What can I say? I'm nostalgic. :p

Can't decide on a favourite, but some soundtracks I really like are:

C&C: Red Alert 2 / Tiberian Dawn / Renegade / Red Alert / Tiberian Sun (by Frank Klepacki)

Zelda: Majora's Mask / Wind Waker / Ocarina of Time / Twilight Princess (by Koji Kondo)

Age of Conan (by Knut Avenstroup Haugen)

Edit:

Elementary - Dear Watson

There really is no comparison, so Game, Set, Match!

I also quite like the FFIX soundtrack (enough to have on my iPod!)

Especially this:

I'd say its a tie between Bastion and Katawa Shouji.

Bastion just had great music, while katawa music fit the game so well, it was so powerful sometimes.

The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind (Esp. Nerevar Rising)
Megaman (I still have .wav files of the stage music from MM3!)
Ultima Online (though it should only be listened to quietly really)

Ocarina of time, if only for gerudo valley. I like other zelda games more, but OoT is the one that I remember the most aside from wind waker because I still remember crossing the bridge into the gerudo desert, and just being floored by the music. That's the first place I ever just stopped playing and just sat there listening to the music for a long time.

The lack of Persona 3 & 4 in this thread disgusts me.

And Gravity Rush is truly unique.

Dynasty Warriors 4, easily.

A perfect mix of calm, classical Chinese music and fast paced, face melting guitar riffs that perfectly flow with the gameplay and deliver the perfect atmosphere for every situation...

...perfectly.
My favorite part of Dynasty Warriors games has always been the soundtracks. They're just fucking perfect. VO could use some work though >.>

I have so many favorites that I am going to have to do this thing by console generation:

8-Bit - Super Mario Bros. series, simple as that really

16-Bit - Chrono Trigger, Sonic the Hedgehog (specifically 3 & Knuckles), Mega Man X series, Streets of Rage, TMNT IV: Turtles in Time

64-bit/Disc - Super Mario 64, Zelda: OoT, Twisted Metal series (fucking Rob Zombie man), Final Fantasy VII

Xbox/PS2/Dreamcast/Gamecube - TES III: Morrowind (I listen to it way too much), Dynasty Warriors series, Halo: CE

Xbox360/PS3/Wii - Mass Effect franchise (first one is the best imo), The Elder Scrolls franchise (like Morrowind's more than this gen's TES soundtracks), BlazBlue franchise

PC games - Diablo II (Spanish guitar, you so sexy)

Quite a bit, The few things that trump my love of games is love of music
Command and conquer series,
What can I say? Frank klepacki is an amazing composer. nothing like sending russian warbears fleeing with mind controlling psychos while "brain freeze" plays in the background or Spreading the word of kane through Freak'N laser beams while Mechanical mind blares. Mixing Metal and electro for some rockin' tunes

Touhou project,
My love of Touhou is no secret and I had extolled the virtues of it's amazing series wide soundtrack(and fan remixes) but in my opinion, the 10th, mountain of faith, has the greatest soundtrack for it's consistency(Though Subterranean animism and imperishable night soundtracks come a very close second). While the other games had extremely standout tracks in them, this game had a better ratio. Shame it's my least favourite game out of them all.

But one cannot dismiss the sound track of the official fighting games
Nearly all of them are Fuckin' choice

Reserved for Daystar
I have always been in love with oriental music, and hearing these tracks cemented that. Every song adding to the atmosphere for the parts they are meant to be played over. Truly masterclass, My explanation do it no justice

The Shin Megami Tensei Series,
From the Persona series to Devil summoner to Digital devil saga,
Their soundtracks have very unique sounds to them that are, Undeniably, awesome.
Destroying a psychedelic hippy angel to the trippy new world fool, to defeating the avatar of death to the appropriately named battle for everyone's soul, to walking around as Raidou while listening to that happening jazz techno track and even just the individual battles in digital devil
A very unique sound to this series and amazing all the way

Bit.Trip Runner
THE reason I bought this game was because of the amazing retro-SOUNDING soundtrack that didn't try to sound RETRO or like a throwback to an old game like most others and instead went for a bombastic soundtrack so good tthat I actually don't mind dying several hundreds of times a run as long as i get to hear them

-EDIT- First world problem: Forget to mention Morrowind, thinks he said enough already to justify explaining it. To Hell with it
Walking around Balmora while Road least travelled plays or Exploring the grazeland while listening to the serene Peaceful waters. I have not played morrowind in a while but I can still remember how they go and connect each of these songs to an experience in the game, which help made the game extremely memorable to me. Just hearing that heartbeat on the main menu as the main them comes on is enough to invoke a pavlovian reaction in me.
In fact, as much as I love Skyrim(never played oblivion), besides the main theme, I hated how the sound track doesn't stand out as much as morrowind did(Though I heard good things about the underground dwermer city later in the game).
