I started playing Diablo 2 again recently and I was wandering around Hell and thought to myself, "I forgot how awesome this place is.". Many games have you travel into hell, so I ask; what is your favorite take on hell, and why?

Obviously mine is Diablo 2, I loved the gothic style structures built on a sea of lava.

The one I frequently visit is Hades. Because, whenever I play God of War 3, it's required. I seen the Dante's Inferno version, and I gotta say, it looks more appealing. Maybe I'm just saying that because there's a Lust level.

The 8th I think. The cold one in the Hordes of the Underdark expansion for NWN. I dont actually like it for itself, but I liked the game. Hated that dumb puzzle with the demon dog though.

I liked the original Diablo's hell. Just the off color music that would randomly play really unnerved me the first time I played it (age 10 I think) that it stuck with me. D II was pretty good too.

Hades in all honesty. Its mythology, any thing may happen.

The Nippon Ichi Netherverse and the Disgaes series' netherworlds in particular.
Nothing beats adorable fallen angels. To say otherwise is HERESY and HERESY MAKES THE EMPEROR CRY!!!

What is that I don't even know what you are saying and I kill memes for fun, but seriously what is that?

All of Act IV was awesome looking, albeit a bit...meh? I hated hunting Izual down, because of the random maps. Still, the Cathedral of Doom (or whatever the name was) was really...great? Nah, doesn't quite do it justice. It's the sort of design I would love to see in HD, possibly form a first person, or at least much closer perspective.

But anyway, does Silent Hill count as a form of hell? If yes, that's where I be headin'...

The Dark Kingdom of Jade.

Yeah, that's technically just the Yin world (the actual hells would be Yomi), but still.

Nippon Ichi is a game company that specializes in JTRPGs (Japanese Tactical RPGs) and apparently all their different game series take place in their own separate universes complete with their own netherworlds. I've started calling all the netherworlds "The Netherverse". The Netherworld in the Disgaea games is also home to flonne, the most adorable fallen angel EVER! She's not adorable enough for me to learn how to sue html tags and put an image of her here though.
I hope that answers your question. It probably doesn't though since I'm usually either really vague or really unorganized.

I know what you mean, but the game is 10 years old, hopefully we will get an epic looking Hell in D3. But as for Silent Hill, I'd consider it hell, a personal hell, but hell none the less.

How the hell has the Hell level in Painkiller not been said yet? Definetly the best hell, imo. It was breathtaking, it still is today. I don't want to spoil it for the people who haven't played it.

I'll go with the Warp. Seriously, you can't begin to imagine what'll happen to your soul there.

Hades isn't hell, it contains every level of the underworld (the underworld being the afterlife). The "hell" part of Hades is Tartarus.
Oh yeah, forgot about that. I spend so much time there that it sometimes slips my mind. Thanks for the correction.

Probably God of War's version of Hades/Hell. Mostly because it can't be that bad in there considering Kratos says "Fuck you!" three times and pretty much walks out whenever he goes there.

well it's not a game but i love the endless number of hells from big trouble in little china. the hell of the upside down sinner, the hell of the eternal dragon, the hell where your flayed alive...come on thats good stuff.

as for hell in a game...as terrible as it was i'm going to say spawn for the playstation one. you actually get to play through the nine levels of hell (long before dante's inferno) and each is distinct and different...too bad the game was so bad it was unplayable
