I'd say Runescape is one of my favourite MMORPGs around.

I have played a lot of them. From the cheap and nasty (AdventureQuest) to the cute 'Puzzle' MMOs (Puzzle Pirates) to the "Serious" MMOs (World of Warcraft), but all of them either drifted away from me, or were violently hurled out of the window in disgust (World of Grindcraft being the latter).

Runescape has something the others do not. Maybe it's because it isn't trying to be World of Warcraft (Questgivers don't have a "!" above their head for one thing), maybe it's the fact it's been out for a hell of a lot longer, maybe it's the vast range of non-combat skills, and the fact you are not locked into a single class. Maybe it just appeals to my Retro side. Whatever the reason, I like it.

I'd also like to give an honourable mention to Dofus, which plays rather like Final Fantasy Tactics (I love that style of game). Drifted away from it myself, but it seems to have a lot going for it.

Finally, as odd as it may sound, Puzzle Pirates really needs some praise. I've spent hours on it just for the ability to play Poker, and the games are all fun in a "downloaded this from PopCap" kind of way. It's not going to appeal to the die-hard story-driven AD&D player, but if you've got a bottle of ale or twenty on hand and Alestorm roaring out of the speakers, the cute Piratey fun-ness will win out.
