It's pretty hard to name one. I spent the most time with Goldeneye, but I preferred Perfect Dark when it came out. Jet Force Gemini and The Ocarina of Time hold special places inside me, and Mario Kart 64 was a classic.

Unfortunately I never got to spend a lot of time with Conker's Bad Fur Day, Majora's Mask, or Donkey Kong 64. That makes me sad.

Star Wars: Episode I Racing was the name that got me into console gaming in the first place. While I have tons of favourites, that is my top favourite, followed closely by Mario Tennis.
It's definitely my favorite thing to come out of the prequels, followed closely by Battlefront I actually came into the thread to suggest it, and was only mildly surprised to see it listed in the OP.

OT: Most of the good ones have already been mentioned. Star Wars: Episode One Racer, Mario 64, Starfox 64, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask are the absolute must haves. There's other classics (Jet Force Gemini, Mario Tennis, Diddy Kong Racing and Cruisin' USA, for example), but those are the really big ones.

Everything listed in this thread so far. I have only played a few of the games, but I loved all of the ones I did get to and have heard great things about the ones I didn't play.

If I had to name one, it'd be Banjo-Kazooie

Honorable mentions include Conker's Bad Fur Day, Majora's Mask, Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, DK 64, Star Fox 64, Super Smash Bros, Diddy Kong Racing and Yoshi's Story.

...also Pokemon Snap and Kirby the Crystal Shards :D

Majora's Mask, Super Mario 64, Paper Mario, Mario Party 3, Mario Tennis, Kirby 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and Jet Force Gemini are all great games.

Then you also need what I consider the best N64 game ever: Donkey Kong 64. Seriously, that game is epic and I would love to see either a 3DS remake or a sequel to happen one of these days.

I sit across from my TV and I see my N64 sitting on top of my sub. What game is in it? WWF No Mercy. There is another game sitting next to the N64 and that is International Superstar Soccer 64. Yep they are my 2 picks. Still playing them to this day.

In order of importance (first being most, last being whatever games I can remember enjoying a bit):

Majora's Mask, Majora's Mask, Majora's Mask, Super Mario 64, Bomberman 64, Kirby and the Crystal Shards, Star Fox, Mario Kart, Glover, Rampage.

My personal favorite, was either Goldeneye or Super Smash Bros.
Considering it was a sort of spiritual successor, you should definitely give Perfect Dark a chance. I haven't finished Perfect Dark but it's a fun little shoot-em-up. As for my favorite N64 game...well, I can't think of a single favorite. Here are a random few:

Pokemon Snap (don't look at me like that)
Duke Nukem 3D
Pokemon Stadium (currently using it to play Pokemon Red since I don't yet have a Super Gameboy)
Ocarina of Time
Donkey Kong 64
Mario Party 2

My GF has a more obscure love of Pokemon Puzzle League and, Space Station: Silicon Valley (this one, I'm stuck on)

Also, if you're into Resident Evil and find Resident Evil 2 for the N64, I would recommend it for the sole reason that the N64 version has cheats. As in, type-in-a-code-and-turn-the-game-into-a-run-n-gun. Just putting that out there.

What! There has not been a single mention of Mischief Makers in this thread yet! This is a Travesty! This is madness! This. Is.:

Great game.

I also enjoyed LoZ:OoT and MM, Donkey Kong 64, Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie and Winback. Infact I'm replaying LoZ: MM right now and even debating over doing a Mischief Makers Let's Play.

Only one mention of Paper Mario? I'm surprised. It was probably one of my favorite games of all time. Clever, beautiful (for the time), and fun to play, this game still remains my favorite. And, due to the nature of its aesthetics, it hasn't aged as poorly as Ocarina has. It still looks very decent.

Battletanx and battletanx global assault. You pilot a tank made out of scrap metal against other tanks made out of scrap metal. There must be over 10 or 20 weapon types, and your tank can hold them all. There are lasers, bouncing green bolts, bouncing betty mines that shoot lasers, cloaking devices, grenades, and even full sized nukes. Not mini nukes. Full size damage every thing on the map yellow sky nukes. This game would make duke nukem shit himself.

I was always quite partial to Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. It has everything you could want in a Star Wars game besides lightsaber combat...
