Funny that you would choose Dimentio, I was going to choose Bleck before I read the thread.
Anyway, yes. Count Bleck. I won't spoil anything, but he's a much deeper character than he appears. One of the few villains in Nintendo games that aren't just plain evil for no reason.

And the top hat and monocle make him a thousand times better.

Giygas, hands down. Why? Because more than any other video game character I can think of, Nintendo or not, he is shit-your-pants scary.

It's a toss-up between

and

The were both hard as Hell to kill but the elation from beating just one makes the rest of the game seem worth it. These are the only two Nintendo Hard bosses I've been able to beat to be honest...I haven't beaten Ninja Gaiden yet and haven't finished Megaman 2 (the only one I own). I think I've beaten the Mario games though but that's nothing compared to Zelda 2.

Well as long as villains include regular enemies I say the bomb-omb. Kamikazes of the mushroom kingdom. They are a pain in the old games, still a pain in the new ones, and you know what they do when you see them.

Well they're not villains though. Minions, regular npc's and sometimes allies. But not villains. As far as my Nintendo knowledge goes.

Those are two of the most difficult bosses in Nintendo's core lineup, and both from one of the most legitimately difficult games on the NES.

While Dark Link can be beaten with the corner exploit, actually fighting him as intended is a real duel, and one for the NES ages. Thunderbird is just a bastard who becomes an even bigger bastard each time you hit him.

I found Ninja Gaiden and any entry in the Megaman series (apart from Megaman 1, which is legendarily in its difficulty towards the end) to be a bit easier than Zelda 2 growing up.
Keeping in mind that most of the challenge of Zelda 2 was not knowing what to do next without a guide.

So towards that end, I'm going to have to pick Dark Link, because I always attempt to fight him as intended (usually after a 10 minute break from Thunderbird, because seriously. Fuck him, and fuck the monstrous maze you have to go through to get to him. And fuck his Eagle-Knights). Though the resultant rematch with him in Ocarina of Time was more than underwhelming, seeing how I bludgeoned him to death with a broken sword.

In terms of character and personality, there aren't many good villains for personality outside of the offspring-series of Super Mario RPG (Paper Mario and Superstar Sagas), and I haven't played most of Paper Mario yet.

Another one for Ghirahim. Unique, unforgettable, comic and disturbing.

Majora from Majora's Mask. Most of the villains from Zelda aren't what you would call sane, but this guy takes the cake when it comes to lunacy. There's a reason Gamesradar refereed to it as The Joker of the Zelda franchise.
