Your Favorite Obscure Musicians

Not sure if they would be considered "obscure" but my favorite band of all time, Melvins, seem to go unnoticed by many MANY people.

Other's I'd include would be a really small time hardcore crust drum and bass band called Weed Thief from my local Eastern Canada, and an Australian doomy sludge metal solo band thing called Golden Bats.

Depends what you mean my obscure really, if you're not into metal or hardcore, then almost everything I listen to is obscure. If you are into metal and hardcore, you might have heard of quite a lot of stuff I listen to, if only a little. I mean, Fugazi are a legendary band, but most people wouldn't have a clue who they were, even if they had heard of Minor Threat.

Anyways, He Is Legend are fucking incredible, and pretty much no one (especially here in the UK) I've spoken to has heard of them. They had some success about a decade ago because I Am Hollywood got some airplay, but they got a lot less metalcore and a lot more alt-rock and this song is the first thing they've come out with in a few years. Pretty sure they were on hiatus for quite a while, but there's a new album in the pipes so I'm fucking super excited, especially if it's going to sound like this.

If I wanted to be really obscure, I vaguely know some of the guys in this band. Pretty solid metalcore, nothing really earth shattering, but given some better production it could be decent enough.

Depends where you draw the line for obscurity...

A lot of my favorite music is in the progressive metal genre, which is pretty obscure in itself. Evergrey, Tad Morose, etc. I don't know which band to call most obscure here... Vision Divine or Stride maybe? I also listen to heavy/melodic/power/etc metal.

I harp on and on about these guys endlessly. Woccon is a melo-doom/death metal band from Georgia and they're probably one of my favourite bands, period. Beautiful instrumentals, powerful vocals and great production value, especially given their size.

To give you an idea about how underground they are, their Youtube account has 52 subs. 52.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go stroke me indie peen some more.

Scar Symmetry is probably one of my favorite melodic death/power/progressive metal bands and they're pretty much only have an underground following. (As far as I know. They're signed to Nuclear Blast Records, but the only other bands I know signed with them is Children of Bodom, Blind Guardian, and Cradle of Filth.)

Not sure if it counts as obscure exactly but LiSA is rapidly becoming one of my favourite J-pop artists. She's done a few anime openings and they are all awesome. Notably Sword Art Online's Crossing Field and most recently Mahouka's Rising Hope.

Mahouka is really good so far by the way. The animation quality alone makes it worth the watch, this current season is remarkable in quality. There's usually two I stick with at best per season and there's around four currently. No Game No Life, Mahouka, Gokukoko no Byrnhildr and maybe Black Bullet. The main masked villain guy reminds me so much of BlazBlue's Hazama so I can enjoy BB off his entertainment value alone.

Honorable mention to any artist featured on an Adult Swim bump, mostly because of how not all of them became known through Adult Swim in the first place... (like Flying Lotus, Bibio, Collective Efforts, Blockhead, and Psyche Origami...)

Like others here, I listen to mostly metal, so a majority of my music is going to be stuff that people not into metal have never heard of. However, I think I have a few that are obscure even to people into metal, although probably not as obscure as some of the things people have put.

Noisem. A surprisingly good death/thrash metal band. I'll admit that these guys probably aren't nearly as obscure as they were six months ago, as they recently opened for a few far more well known bands on a tour which probably earned them quite a lot of fans (myself included), but I'm guessing most people still haven't heard of them.

Aquaria. Just superb symphonic power metal. These guys deserve way more attention than they get.

Grimner. A band that I found by pressing the random band button on Metal Archives. They looked interesting, so I gave them a listen, and found a pretty good vikingy band. I have no idea how popular these guys really are, but I've never really seen them mentioned anywhere, so I'm going to assume not very.

Avathar. I cannot remember how I found this band, and I haven't been able to find their music anywhere other than Youtube. Which is a shame, because they're actually really good.
