The Aquabats. They might not be considered very obscure though...

Well, I got a few:

There's Bay Laurel

Rale

It's a Czech band

and as last example- Sive (I like their style very much)

It's not all, there are many others, that I am sure many people don't recognize, but these are some of my favorites.

Loreena McKennitt

Not entirely unknown, but most people here probably won't recognize her. Absolutely awesome voice and wonderfully serene tone.

Favorite song from her is Skeelig.

I personally really love these two (I think) post black metal bands:

Lantlôs

Klabautamann
<youtube=sgqdqGeuIIU>

Does anyone know these bands?

I love Air Traffic, the Civil Wars, the Coronas, Civil Twilight, Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun, People and the Poet, the Memory Band, Jack Savoretti, James Yuill, We Are The Birdcage, Area 11, Cosmo Jarvis, the Doobie Brothers, Reef, Tiny Dancers, Emily Barker and the Red Clay Halo, Regina Spektor and a whole load of others. Some of them might be better known in the US than they are here, but in the UK most people won't have heard of most of these.

EDIT: And how could I have forgotten these guys?!

Since I'm from Devon, these men are practically worshipped in most of the surrounding area, they're sort of our national heroes. Seen them live so many times, wonderful blokes all.

Yeah I've got Red Sparowes but haven't got round to listening to them yet.
Red Sparowes are excellent. One of my fave post-rock outfits.

OT: Not really sure.. Tbh most of my favourite bands are pretty obscure. I love love love godspeed you! black emperor and not many people seem to know about them.
Well shit... then I'll add Pelican, Explosions in the Sky, God is an Astronaut and Mogwai. Or we could just say 'all post-rock/post-metal bands that aren't Isis, Neurosis or Jesu'.

Then we can all have a huge shitfight over which bands are post-rock, which are post-metal, which are drone, which are shoegaze and which are sludge. :D

Also, for retro-obscure points, I call Throbbing Gristle.

Actually turned out that a guy I've known for 6 years likes them and I never knew. It's weird cos their music is so big in my life but I don't really get the opportunity share it much. Seeing them live in a couple of weeks though :)
I fucking love GSY!BE, but I have to say they were probably the most disappointing band I've seen live. 100% self-indulgent noise-fest, I almost passed out from boredom.

Not saying the music wasn't good, they still played some classics and they sounded amazing. Just please don't go in expecting them to give a shit about the crowd at all.

Fuck, this post sounds so negative and I'm sorry, but I was so hyped and got let down.

EDIT: Also, when it comes to red sparowes. That album needs to be listened to all in one sitting. Some of the best post-rock I've heard, seriously.

Eskmo is odd, a bit creepy, and universally hated by all that I show him to...

...except myself. I love the crap out of this guy's music.

A quick thread for you telling everyone about singers/groups you like that nobody really seems to know about.
October Project.

They do Alt Rock, but the thing that makes them unique is they have a lyricist - a separate person who just writes the poetry that get turned into their lyrics. They aren't signed to any label because they've had some bad experiences with that, but if you search for them, you can find their website easily enough.

Here's a video for those interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puGEpGzk2hk

Yellow Ostrich is an indie band from Brooklyn, New York. I fell in love with them pretty recently. Though a lot of people I know find them very strange for some reason. It may be due to the song I show them first named, "Whale" (link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1KCsOT1VaM) My favorite song is an acoutsic cover of their own song named "Daughter" (link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pe6BzgedVRY) They also made an EP revolving around the life of Morgan Freeman, it is aptly named the "Morgan Freeman EP". I feel like I need not say any more words.

Mm, I've heard only good things about them though and I know they don't communicate with the crowd at all, but I've loved the live bootlegs I've heard.

Wet Nuns, frickin' amazing, video's rather odd though:

<spoiler=Not for the squeamish> <youtube=bcqk0tEwGjw>

They were supporting Turbowolf (who supported Wolfmother when I saw them in London).

I'm sure to stick my foot in it if I try explaining myself! X3

Thanks for the pointers. I'll keep listening to it!

I've always liked jazz, but I admit I was never into listening to it by choice until I watched Cowboy Bebop. It was a really nice way for me to get into the genre itself without it being forced or awkward. :)
Y'welcome! ^_^ Though I've also always been quite taken with the lyrics of I Can't Be Cool as well, I consider it a faint allegory for a critique of modern capitalism... -_-

The thing about Cowboy Bebop's soundtrack is that taken altogether (with Tank! The Best! as well), 'tis a thoroughly eclectic mix of tracks... once again... Yoko Kanno... much yay-ness...(!) Still, regarding the jazz bent, I seemed to never really mind big band jazz, so when I heard What Planet is This (part of Knockin' on Heaven's Door) especially to Electra driving and then Spike's dogfight, couldn't help clapping & thinking 'taw-hawsome!' -_-

By any chance, have you been looking at my music related posts, or something?

I thought I was the only one who knew about KOD, other than maybe ArtificallyProlonged, who I thought was the only Shoegazer on the Escapist other than myself.

Nice to see others have taken a liking to my music, it makes me feel...proud...kinda.
I learned about KOD from a post on another obscure music thread here, so it must've been a post by you. In that case, thanks for the recommendation, KOD is a great band.
I think we read the same thread, as I think that thread might have been where I first heard about KOD too :D

What, the pioneer band of Industrial is obscure...eh. Maybe a bit forgotten, but obscure nah.

This is incredible though.

One of my favorite artists is Joan as Police Woman (AKA Joan Wasser). She's got a beautiful voice, and an amazing sense of rhythm. Her albums have got plenty of positive reviews, but no one that I know has ever heard of her. She really deserves more attention!

I've heard of Joan as a Police Woman, but i haven't heard her music before. Though I like what I hear.

Cheers for that!

I Can't Be Cool just sounds...cool? Yeah, it just sounds really cool to me. It really has that Ghost In The Shell feel. I can differentiate her songs based on where they came from, so it's helpful for me.
Thing is, ILA's normal singing style is a lot more languid than in I Can't Be Cool. I've listened to much of From Bedlam to Lenane and it's... quaint... can't think of another word for it's just... quaint! -_- The songs are laid back, the lyrics are largely carefree and the videos are amusing!

Great Album. The movie had superb music. 7 Minutes, What Planet is This, Pushing The Sky...it's funny. Before Cowboy Bebop, I would not have placed jazz as a good type of music for scenes like that. Spikes Gunfight (I felt the same way during that scene too!) , or many of his other battles or even the various chase scenes throughout the series! A big example of this is in Episode 4, when the ISSP Top Brass close the gates to stop the monkey virus from wiping out Ganymede. When Too Good Too Bad plays during Spike and Faye's rush to the other side of the gate, I was on the edge of my seat! :)
*has a hankering to watch Cowboy Bebop again* ... Haven't watched it in... good grief, years(!) Though What Planet is This (without the vocals) always sticks in my head from the film as the dogfight that it accompanies is one of the best animated aerial setpieces I've seen.

captcha - for the second time 'donkey's years'... how apt... -_-
