Fuckin' DARK FORTRESS.

A great black metal song...with haunting clean vocals and downright eerie chords.

I see noone mentioning Cocteau Twins, not really TERRIBLY obscure but at least they're awesome.

Ooohh, I meant from anime. I haven't been able to get my hands on any of her non anime work. It does make me very curious though. Look into her other music, I must!
Ah... sorry(!) -_- Still, not all of the GitS:SAC songs are in that style, though, OK, most of them are, as they have that cyberpunk-y slant to the rhythm and audio aesthetic, but I Do sounds more like it was from Wolf's Rain that GitS:SAC, I'd say. -_- *shrug* all good to me, so never mind!

Regarding her other music, it's surprisingly difficult to find. I've listened to From Bedlam to Lenane, but not really any of her earlier stuff. Believe it or not, she was part of a girl-band back in Italy, before coming over to the UK, which is odd, because it was in London where she met Francesco Forni... another Neapolitan IIRC(!)

You should touch up on it. For some, it's like a fine wine: it gets better with age. I've yet to find a show that can affect me as much as Bebop did. <3
LOL, that's the description I typically reserve for Haibane Renmei! I thoroughly enjoyed both the series and the film, though I wouldn't say it affected me in any particular way, but it was definitely worth all the praise it gets. Perhaps we'll trade titles! =P

Ahhh...The Cocteau Twins, a most excellent slice of Dream Pop.

Treasure is a fantasic album.

Saying that, I've remembered a rather obscure gothic dream pop band that I really like.

All About Eve!!!

The singer is so goddamn beautiful.

Well I guess they're not obscure anymore, as everyone will probably recongize what you're about to hear and they've been on some shows now but I've never personally met someone who listens to them too:

My fault actually. I should have specified which songs I meant. Sorry! :)
S'OK, most of the stuff I've listened to is from anime, so it's fair enough. And while her other work is good (it's more fun, I guess), it just doesn't have the impact of some of her collaborations with Yoko Kanno.

I believe that is the original problem I ran into when I looked for her other works. Maybe it's better now though? I Do would fit right into Wolf's Rain, simply because a lot of it's music was very orchestral and piano themed. :)
Unfortunately, so little of her work is publicised that most people who listen to her songs know her from anime, which is a pity, since she has done a fair bit of other stuff, even if finding it is a real source of annoyance. However... I now need to get Cyber Bicci! =P which I clean forgot about until recently... -_-

This show [http://myanimelist.net/anime/387/Haibane_Renmei], right? Interesting premise. Adding it to my list. It has a pretty high rank on that website too!
Yes, that's the one. It's one of my favourite shows, and though it can be considered a massive allegory for repentance and rebirth, I don't think it's pretentious in the least. As I mentioned in the Anime user group, I really can't think of a decent enough expression to describe it... :/

Much shoegazing was mentioned without this happening, so I must do it:

Nobody I have ever met has heard of my favorite bands/musicians, so I'll chalk that up as "obscure" :
