Who is your favorite protagonist in a game/movie/anime/etc? Please give a reason for so.

I have several, but my Top 3 are following.

Shu Matsutani ( Now and Then, here and There)

I know, the goofy antagonist, that gets pissed the fuck off if you ever mess with his freinds, pride, food is a very common character in anime ( examples: Goku, Luffy, Natsu, Black Star). But in my opinion, Shu is the best. He is just so human. He doesn't have any powers or abilities, he barely has any friends at all. But he just keeps a level-head, and doesn't give up. If you take away a protagonist friends, what good is he? Shu just tries to protect the people who ask for it, and truly realizes just how fucked up this future is. that is just what truly admirable about him. he doesn't really have anything to live for. but he still pushes on! That is a truly unbreakable will.

Yuri Hyuga ( Shadow Hearts)

The best video game protagonist in the world. there is nothing you can say about, he just is. Using his powers as a harmonixes, he can transform into fucking demons, and each one can fuck shit up in their own right. Plus, he just has a horrific tragedy called "His Life". lets see. Right after your dad leaves for a war, you promise to take care of your mom. Then all of a sudden, monsters from fucking out of nowhere come out of nowhere, and your mom dies trying to save your worthless ass. The irony is staggering.

If that isn't enough, how about the girl you truly love and who loves you back dieing in your arms trying to take your burden as a Malice fueled demon?

How the game develops his character is what makes him my favorite as well. Over the course of his journey, he has to struggle with being filled with malice, and this can make your BLOOD THIRSTY! And every time you fight, the Grim Reaper will come out personally as revenge for the mosters you killed. But as he visits different locals and gaining new allies, he starts to realize he isn't as much of a monster as he thought.

Myself... in the game of life! Har har.

But seriously, I like damaged heroes such James Sunderland from Silent Hill 2. They seem more human to me.

Dude, finally someone who sees the light! Also, Joachim was pretty awesome.

Other then him though, I'd have to go with Rand al'Thor from the Wheel of Time book series, and Revan (as described by Treya) in KOTOR 1 and 2.

i know he gets a lot of shit for being in a grand theft auto game, but Niko Bellic ended up being a character which i could actually connect with, he seemed to get into the kind of situation i would see myself getting into if i ever was to get into a life of crime. all the pain and suffering in his life really seemed to have a visible impact on him and the people in his life, which is how people would react (given the situations they are put in) all in all the ending is what sealed the deal for me. i really felt for him either way i went.

I think my favorite is probably Ramza Beoulve of Final Fantasy Tactics.

He starts out as, for want of a better term, a highborn brat. He's well-to-do noble from a family of knights that has lead the Order of the Northern Sky for generations. He's bright eyed, bushy tailed and eager to get out there in pursuit of his naive idea of "justice".

Naturally, he ends up being used by kingdom he serves, the church he worships at, and even his own brother. Over the course of the game, he gradually opens his eyes and comes to see that the world isn't really divided into such simple terms as "good" and "wicked", and that the so-called nobles rarely have the best interests of the people at heart.

In the end, however, he chooses not to be swayed by the tide of corruption and sticks to his ideals. He's branded as a heretic and a radical outcast for it, and ultimately ends up being completely forgotten by history despite being directly responsible for saving Ivalice from total annihilation.

The strength of his character is brought even more into focus when you examine his best friend Delita, a commoner who spends most of his early life being pushed around and used just as much as Ramza was. Delita, unlike Ramza, lacks the moral strength to do what is right, and ultimately becomes just as cruel and manipulative as the people who once manipulated him, a turn that eventually results in him becoming the king of Ivalice. He goes down in history as the greatest hero his age had ever seen, while the true hero, Ramza, died alone and without any recognition whatsoever.

Amazing character.

kratos
it is probably safe to say that Kratos is the most flawed "hero" of them all
but its just so satisfiying to see him go about his work of killing gods and fucking up people's lives
i find myself rooting for a character who pretty much is trying to END the world

Okay than! As the Escapist Official Shadow Hearts Fanboy, riddle me this. Did the Great Gama....baptize Joachim in the traditional sense at the Man Festival?

Lolz! The Man festival. It was one of the creepiest parts of the game, even creepier than most of the monsters. ( it didn't help how Gama was screaming in pleasure when the Tower of the Holy Ring came ( hurr)out of the ground.) And yes, Gama did "Baptize" ( if by baptize, you mean anal sex) Joachim. But at least he got the mask of question.

Link. He is one of those protagonists that knows when there is an ancient evil threatening the land, there is no need to talk about his feelings on the matter.

All he knows is how to say "HYUH!" and kill things. I admire a protagonist that doesn't get caught up in the politics of a situation.
