According to GameFAQs and Wikipedia, we are in the seventh generation of video game systems.
So, Escapists, what is your favorite game system by generation?

Ok sorry to be annoying, but would you mind just changing your wall of text to what I have above? Thanks...

But I'll do the ones for systems I've actually played...
Gen 4: NES
Gen 5: 3 way tie between PlayStation, GameBoy Color, and N64.
Gen 6: PS2 by far.
Gen 7: I really can't choose here... I love all the consoles (except for the Wii, obviously) and the 3DS isn't even out yet. But I'll just cheat and say PC.

I would have done that, but I don't know how to make spoilers.

Go back to my post and click quote... then inside of the place where I quoted you, copy that and then edit your post and paste what I have. It makes your thread a lot more approachable. And just because... to make a spoiler, type [*spoiler*=Generation 1] INSERT TEXT HERE [/*spoiler*] except erase the *'s.

Generation 2
Intellivision - The only one I really had a lot of play time with. So fun, but the controllers were horrid.

Generation 3
Nintendo Entertainment System/Famicon Family Computer - A true classic and pretty much the real beginning of gaming as we know it today. So many good titles that I actually still enjoy playing today, which is something I can't say about any system that came before the NES.

Generation 4
Super Nintendo Entertainment System - I had most of the big guns from this era, but you can't go against the SNES here. An amazing line up of games from every genre, and also pretty much the pinnacle of game music too.

Generation 5
PlayStation - Great fun at the time, and a great introduction to the benefits of disc based media. Great titles across all genres but, sadly, many just aren't that fun today. Very much a product of it's time.

Generation 6
PlayStation 2 - No question it had some competition but overall this system is another undeniable classic. So many good games and so many that are still so much fun to play now.

Generation 7 (Current Generation)
PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 - I can't just pick one here. Even though I don't even own a PS3 it's easy to see that both it and the 360 have so much to offer in every genre for every type of player.

2nd Gen: N/A
3rd gen: Master System. It's purely a nostalgia choice due to it being my 1st ever games system. I really did enjoy 8 bit Sonic, and Alex Kidd in Miracle World.

4th gen: Mega Drive. I love that console. It had one of the best games libraries of all time in my eyes. Just a great mixture, and the best part, loooooads of platformers. Also lets face it, Sonic 3 & Knuckles was the shit.

5th gen: Playstation. Crash Bandicoot when it was awesome, Final Fantasy when it was awesome (yeah I know it was awesome on SNES but we never got the original SNES versions in the UK), Metal Gear Solid, Tekken, Oddworld, Wipeout, and loads of random weird games like Fluid. Also anyone else remember demo disc one?

6th gen: Playstation 2. Original choice I know... but it had everything. Kingdom Hearts and Dragonball Z Budokai 3 really sealed the deal for me.

7th gen: Hard choice to be honest. Playstation 3 gets my vote over 360 for free online, and Uncharted 2.

Handhelds:

4th gen: Gameboy. Pokemon Blue.
5th gen: Gameboy Colour. Pokemon Silver.
6th gen: Gameboy Advance. Funnily enough not Pokémon though. Had a load of randoms for that. Enjoyed it a lot though.
7th gen: PSP was my favourite, especially after being hacked so I could play Mega Drive and PS1 games portably. (Games I already owned legally by the way) Regret selling it. Have a DS now though, that's pretty fun too.
