I dont really watch youtube since the whole google acount/youtube merge. i do hold a grudge. but before that i think that Al Yankovich was one of those unknowns. Nigahiga has made it big as far as i know so that wont fit the bill.
I sometimes watch TotalBiscuit but hes famous too.
Klaatu42 offers quite nice talking cat videos (at least the best ideas ive seen).
but yeah, ever since i moved to escapist i kinda stayed here.

Also, JonTron is hilarious and awesome.
This sounds contradicting to me... I know Retsupurae deal in LPs but JonTron seems like the kind of guy they'd hate... *shrugs*
JonTron is awesome though, found him through his top10 lists originally.

As for my list?
Lumin [http://www.youtube.com/user/talesoflumin] sits at the top, mainly an LPer and his glorious vocabulary, accent (South African), general innocence and lack of screaming/swearing make him a real joy to watch. He made the first Amnesia playthrough [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MSo4ldhYOw] that hasn't hurt my ears too.
He takes his games slow and doesn't really know what he's doing, which is a nice contrast from all 'pros' you see who played the game before LPing it.

If you're in to League of Legends there are two channels that make some really [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOq12mP0oEw] awesome [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0deA1JUUZFQ] music about it, Plentakill [http://www.youtube.com/user/LoL9Songs] and Area of Defect [http://www.youtube.com/user/AreaofDefectMusic].

Slamacow [http://www.youtube.com/user/SlamacowCreations] posts a lot of animated Minecraft videos, some music too (makes vids for things that Laura Shigihara [http://www.youtube.com/user/supershigi] cooks up, you should probably recognise that name).
And finally Harry101UK [http://www.youtube.com/user/Harry101UK] makes a lot of stuff between tests, demos and rather good VA impressions, he has a fair bit of Portal music [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjtjiJdUpSw] (great [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Di2wDDwxqHg] stuff [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZIVmKOdrBk]) and skits [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyyetiHv-U8].

You could argue that some of these channels are too popular to be considered "underrated", but I'd be surprised if many people knew of all these.

I don't know if he qualifies as underrated but, i'm going with UnPlayedAThing. While most LP youtubers have voices like nails on a chalkboard and nothing to say at the same time, Un has neither. His speaking voices is very pleasent and knows a great deal about the games he plays. His commentary is full of factoids about whatever he's playing and bits of random humor.

Beaglerush, I have no clue if he is underrated or whatever but his humour is great, witty and natural sounding.
His Ironman Impossible series of XCOM has been brilliant.

I usually don't do promotions, but for the last six months I've been doing random one-off races with people from SA and the results have been really great overall. It started as just bonus content for a somethingawful Super Meat Boy tournament and we just had so much fun with them we raced every game we could think of. The production values from the people who produce the videos are professional but not overproduced like you'd see on a lot of gaming channels, and it might even include some people you recognize like diabetus (of retsupurae fame), psychedelic eyeball, and vicas (who LP'd Mario 64 entirely with his feet). The producers have mostly been Smite, psychedelic eyeball, Admiral H Curtis, and ragny and all of their channels are worth looking at. There is also a playlist of all the bonus races which I'll post below.

Bonus Race Playlist

Psych's Channel

Ragny's Channel

Admiral's Channel

Edit: If you're not sure what to watch, the Ninja Gaiden, Mario 64, and Kirby's Adventure races were all pretty successful. Enjoy guys.

Raocow [http://www.youtube.com/user/raocow]. french/canadian LPr, primarily does smw hacks, but also keeps a b-side where he does indie games he feels deserve recognition.
Was wondering if anyone would mention the good old Cow of Rao. No where else can you get your daily intake of Vitamin R.

Everyone watch Zisteau. He is by far the best of all the Youtubers. http://www.youtube.com/user/Zisteau/videos?flow=grid&view=0
While I like Zisteau and many of the other Mindcrack guys (my personal favorite is Etho), I don't think you can call someone with 90k+ subscribers "underrated".

If you like guns, I'd go with hickock45. Pretty interesting stuff.

I guess he mind not meet some users' definition of "underrated" in this thread, but if we take underrated to also mean someone who might not be currently popular within our community, I think this will work.

If you're into like, wet shaving and using old school razors and stuff, or you just want to not mess up your face when you shave, I like mantic59's videos.

Eh, the question at the end the OP isn't actually, "Who's underrated?"

It's:

So, Escapist, what's the Youtuber that you feel deserves more attention?
Which isn't something necessarily affected by how much attention the person is actually receiving.

BillyMC. Guys, BillyMC is indescribable.

Also, JonTron is hilarious and awesome.
I like JonTron but he doesn't make videos for his channel any more. GameGrumps is hilarious though.

I also like Jesse Cox the great prophet of the Space Butterfly.

Matt Barton: [link]http://www.youtube.com/user/blacklily8[/link]

Not only does he make some quite entertaining videos about classic games, he also interviewed a ton of people who work/worked in the games industry. (Tim Cain, John Romero and Chris Taylor, amongst others)

He Creates huge expansive letsplays and has been in the youtubing buisness for years. He has 1,200~subs but only gets 85 or so views on his videos, he is an amazing guyand i think he deserves more credit. (he did a bloody 119 episode rolercoaster tycoon lets play with each episode being about 20~ minutes long!)

Roxas1359 he's plain awesome and is doing a Final Mix LP and translating the game...>.>

I kid I kid I didn't mean to self promote. Anyway I think Batman9502 is somewhat underrated. He's really good at doing LPs and I've enjoyed watching his LPs a lot. Another one is probably Deceleration47. He's not got many videos but he's still really good.

Yeah! Some people got some sense in them. Like every good medium, LP's need quality control. Retsupurae is the answer.
