Eyefear. They're a band from Melbourne who were one of the support acts for Blind Guardian's ONLY two Australian concerts (of which I went to both). Pretty decent and we met the singer later on and he was quite a nice dude (seriously epic hair!!). I've bought two of their albums but I don't know how widely distributed they are. Probably not very.

The Electric Prunes:

Both are bands out of the 60's that NOBODY knows about today.
At the very least, Wes Anderson knows about The Creation:

And, yes I've heard of The Electric Prunes, but only because LCD SoundSystem mentions them:

Actually, I think his song fits this thread quite nicely.

I'd heard of LCD Soundsystem, but until that point never heard them: thumps up.

Video from 2002, but it's more 60's music (surprise surprise)

Sigur Ros, an Icelandic post-rock band, is my favorite.
I think that Sigur Ros is pretty well known now. Good band. I know that they had a song on the soundtrack for the movie "Children of Men."

If anyone has heard of Alkonost, Agalloch or Urheimat then many <3's for you!

People in Planes.

Nobody I have ever met has heard of them and they are simply one of the best bands I've ever heard.

Legacy

The only reason I know who they are is because my friend was related to one of the members and gave me a CD. It's actually pretty decent metal (if you can excuse the singing).

Actually finding them online was hard enough.

Bad Religion. They have a point, they make it. Period. I swear, those guys are practically legends of the punk scene, but I seem to be the only one who knows they exist!
Well, except for these guys.

Reuben. One of the best British rock bands of the past 10 years that absolutely no-one's heard of who've split up now because nobody bought their albums...

Grr, take a look at this though, it's awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhlQIcbG4zU&feature=related

"My name is Freddy Kreuger,
And I've got the Elm St Blues....
I've got a hand like a kinfe rack
and i die in EVERY FIIIILM!"

Seriously, how can you not like a song with lyrics like that?

Around here in Sweden, no one seems to know of them at least.

They're a jamaican reggae metal band, really cool actually.
Oh! Oh! They're the ones with "Scavanger", right? Awsome band, my friend =D
And that's one of my top favorite songs =D

As for my favorite unheard of band.
I'd say Rise Against. But that's just because very few in Norway have heard of them. While in America they're quite populare. Same goes with Cake

So I'll say Grand Island. There's a lot of norwegians that hasn't heard them, even though they're a norwegian band. But I think they were promoted in some other country, then half of Norway went "Allright! This band is totally awsome, dude. I've allways supported them. I'm proud to be a supporter. By the way. What songs do they have? I haven't heard one" -.-

Me on the other hand. I was a great fan even before they got populare. When they were just some guys trying to get a bit ahead. Ever since "US Annexed".

Maximum The Hormone. Japanese Death metal band. No one I ask seems to have heard of it.

Omni Trio. Drum and Bass/Trance. Really damn good.

Screaming Trees. Grunge/Rock. Again, no one has heard of them.

Maybe I Just hang around musically-challenged people?
