I'm sure this topic or topics similar to it have been made before, but I am curious about what sort of games constitute as peoples favorites. If possible, I'd like this topic to be free of anyone taking another persons post and going "You like that game, why!?" and just be a declaration of the game you love most.

Does your favorite game stem from childhood as one you loved then and still enjoy now? Is it a more recent title that really blew you away? Whatever the reason, I wanna hear what it is.

My personal favorite video game is Legend of Mana for the PSX, and yes, I did buy it when it came out for the PSN lol

Doom. I got back into gaming in... 1997 I think... and Final Doom was the game I bought along with my Playstation. It was awesome. I remember being wowed by the graphics. No kidding.

(The PS1 was my first console. Prior to that I'd played nothing newer than Wolfenstein 3D or the original Prince of Persia, so Doom did look pretty awesome in comparison.)

Is it nostalgia? I don't think so. I honestly believe it's a brilliantly made game - it runs incredibly smoothly, the gameplay is simple and intuitive, and the difficulty settings are very well balanced. I can still play it now without any nostalgia filter and enjoy it as much as ever.

I've played FPSs with better graphics (admittedly not hard); better stories (again, not hard to beat "kill 'em all!") but I've never played an FPS with better pure gameplay, so it's still the FPS against which I judge all others.

Gears of War 2. I love it and i can't keep from coming back to play it. Gameplay is fun, gorey, long storyline, lot's of online and offline modes, and you can play with bots.

Rollercoaster Tycoon. Sure better games have been made, but that one has a special nostalgic place in my heart, it has a charm that's hard to beat. Thief 1 & 2 come in at a close second I think...
