Your favourite board game

Chess is ok I guess, however my "Favourite" board game is Monopoly (Even though I suck at it).

Has anyone ever really played a game of monopoly to completion?

I've never lost. Only noobs lose at Monopoly. Experienced players like myself have one key move. It's incorrectly identified as "Flipping the Board" or "What the fuck dude!?!?"; it's real name is Communist Monopoly, nobody wins and nobody loses. This allows everyone to be equal and shows everyone the evil's of a Capitalistic system as we stage a peoples coup against the Capitalistic shackles that have kept us down. Everyone learns a good moral lesson, and everyone is a winner and better for being enlightened....except I'm slightly better and more enlightened because I taught you all.*

I play Stratego with the kids at my job all the time, and there's a few other games I can't remember the names of right now

Hrm, its a tough call for me to decide between Settlers of Catan, and the various incarnations of Axis and Allies, although that Lego game looks pretty freaking sweet.

Edit: As for my Monopoly strategy, I always try to be the railroad baron. Not always a win, but everyone else playing will despise you.

Anyways, my favorite two are The Omega Virus, which is an electronic game to stop a virus on a space station, and, if you can find it because it's rather rare, Fireball Island. By far, most fun game I remember playing.

2 top favorite board games... 1. Axis and Allies, 2. Twilight Imperium

Republic of Rome comes in a very close 3rd, with Merchants of Venus at 4th.

My favorite board game is Battlestar Galactica, but we also play Game of Thrones and Last Night on Earth. My group is starting up a game of Risk Legacy sometime soon too. Monopoly and its ilk are casual tier. GET ON MY LEVEL, SON.

I just played Last Night on Earth for the first time this week. It was crazy good, but I like the alien version more (I can't remember exactly what it's called (Invasion from Outer Space?) but it's the same company). Anyway, it's 90% the same game, but all the characters are circus performers and one is a dancing bear that can dance its way out of bullet wounds and has special rules that let it ride a unicycle faster than anyone else. Also, there is a great beast that arises from a crashed saucer and can only be weakened by the noxious odor of cabbage.

Back on topic, I dig Alien Frontiers because the gameplay is fun and they give you so many dice to roll, because rolling dice is fun. Also Cyclades, because they went pretty deep into Greek mythology and brought out all sorts of fun characters to work with. Would you rather build your metropolis here, or would you rather hire Penthesilea to build your metropolis on the secret island of the Amazons? These are questions I want board games to ask me.

Game of Thrones is fun too, but only if I get to play as Greyjoy or, in a pinch, Stark. My ultimate goal is to one day capture Baratheon's home island with Greyjoy.

Lego Heroica. A dungeon crawler made entirely from Lego. And it is awesome.

No joke, I have mine set up less than 4 feet away from me (hanging out in the basement to escape the blistering heat; now that the sun is down, I'm just being too lazy to go back upstairs). I use custom rules to spice things up a bit.

But alas; I actually like the Battlestar Galactica board game.
Which is odd because I don't like the show.

However, it's a very neat game of mistrust and calculated risk. Look up the rules and you'll see what I mean.

(also, be prepared to hear the words "I think you're a Cylon" in some form or another, a LOT if you play)

I actually don't really like Game of Thrones despite the fact I play it often. It has very little chance involved which is part of the fun of those games. It's pure strategy and it really just stresses me out more than it amuses me. Every game kind of goes the same and it feels like a very advanced version of Rock, Paper, Scissors.

I prefer to play BSG because you never know who's on your side or what kind of preparations you'll need to survive. Also, it's fun for minor roleplaying.

Oh! Shadow Hunters! That's another great one, but it suffers from an extremely limited deck size. In each of its 3 decks there are no more than 20 cards and I feel like THAT is a generous estimate.

I don't really have anyone to play Heroica with so I had to come up with some single player rules. Pretty much 'see how far I can get before I die'. I also borrowed the Princess and Warrior Woman from Lego Champion (3861) and the white Ninja from Ninajo (3856) microfigs for someone to rescue from the castle and new character classes.

I'm pretty sure we sell the Battlestar game at my work, I'll have to check it out.

@ OP: If you think games are boring you have been playing all the wrong games. Settlers of Catan is the basic intro game but I would recommend Cosmic Encounter or Munchkin if you are looking for a really good time. I've almost quit playing PC games because I play board games so often now, newer games really are interesting and a lot of fun.

I don't consider Munchkin a board game, really.
At least there wasn't a board involved in the last game of Zombie munchkin I played.

As for settlers of Cataan. Sort of fun. I've only played one game, but I won it.

The only thing that I don't really like about Scrabble (Icelandic version) is the letter score. It's like someone who doesn't speak Iceland just said "ok, the letter that aren't in the English version will count the most" but imo J is the worst letter to have in the Iceland version but it's on 5 points.

I don't own it myself; I play when the rare opportunity strikes (my friend ordered it from a hobby-card shop). Make sure you can get at least 4 people to play; this is a game that gets infinitely better the more players you have.
