This has to be the most epic cutscene I've ever seen.

The cinematography here is unparalleled. On top of that the fight choreography for Snake vs the Ocelot Unit is spectacular. What a way to introduce a character here. This really sets the stage for all future Ocelot confrontations.

I just love Vorador and the character totally shines in this scene and I absolutely love the dialogue here.
I think what really seals the deal for me in this cutscene though is this one small moment in it where for a few seconds after Vorador remarks upon the sorry state of Vampire kind due to them involving themselves in human affairs , there is this look of terrible sadness on his face which he quickly does away with. But it?s just that little moment where we see such a strong and jaded individual such as Vorador show some vulnerability, it really just hits this scene out of the park for me.

The intro to Fallout 1 is something I always found particularly striking. I like how the series always gave you a brief glimpse into the pre-war past before the stark reality of the wasteland, and the exposition afterwards never seemed out of place.

I concur. Ron Pearlman never hurts in the credits either. "War. War never changes."

Beyond Fallout, I'm a wild Myth: The Fallen Lords fan as well. The hopelessness of the Legion's desperate 'last best hope' against endless undead armies is very noble and even touching at some points. One clip in particular I like is this one, the opening to 'Shadow of the Mountain' mission.


Basically, you've got a few dozen men and dwarves who *will* hold the line. There's never any reinforcements coming. There's no chance of a cease fire or a peace deal. Almost every single battle you are in is a suicide mission against overwhelming odds. Even if, miraculously, the Legion succeeds in their one-in-a-gazillion gamble, what is there to go home to? The entire continent is devastated by the Fallen Lords already ... only 1 free city remains standing ... and at the opening of the final mission you get word that even it has fallen and the Fallen Lords are butchering all inside. The last of the men, women, and children in the world are being buthcered wholesale. It's against this kind of stark backdrop that you get this mere 20 second cutscene - every one of those soldiers is waiting to die. But by the gods they'll take as many of the enemy with them in memory of their families back home.

I absolutely love this cutscene. Ominous and mysterious. It's a good summary of the game.

I think the silence really added to it. Though it was probably the final letter that got to me the most.

Oh man. I played Myth a looooong time ago at my Uncle's. I got to that mission, and that cutscene has ALWAYS stuck with me. No real movement, but the atmosphere in that scene. It was just...words fail me. I love that scene.

I wish I was smart enough to figure out how to post Youtube clips, but my top favorites are the intro to Final Fantasy VIII, and then the war between the two Gardens in FFVIII. Where you see everyone fighting each other with magic, guns, swords, and spears, while Rinoa and Squall make a mad dash across the field. Truly jaw dropping.

In all seriousness, I love the ending to FFX. It's a truly wonderful game.

I never understood the hate that scene got. It was supposed to sound like horrible fake laughter that sounded so ridiculous that it caused them to laugh.
