Gargoyles! I like how each one of them is different. And I like when I see them on a cathedral or something like that.

A Hermit's Cave
Overdone, but dragon (of the Temeraire vein, you can talk to them and indulge in intellectual discourse, and if you've imprinted yourself on them, they'll kick ass on your behalf)

Second comes one that I'm surprised no-one's mentioned: Pegasus.

Anything from Norse Mythology really, although I really like the idea of Jörmungandr. A massive Serpent that encircles the world is awesome :)

I'm all about dragons, but if I had to pick one specific mythological creature, I would go with...

I love dragons because they can be anything you can think of.
Frost wyrm? Yep
Fire dragon? You betcha
Shadow dragon? Hell yeah
Undead mechanized lightning dragon? Yeppers

Most other mythological creatures get gay when you mix them with other elements, or make a new variant.
Dragons just get cooler.

I'm undecided. Western-style dragons are really freaking cool (not a fan of Eastern dragons) but then again, Fenrir, a wolf so terrifying it took Balder himself to try feeding the damn thing and it still took his hand. Then you've got phoenixes and thunderbirds, the kraken, Grendel...

Bah, too many awesome mythical creatures!
hmmm, fairly certain it was Tyr that had his hand bitten off. Baldr was the dude that was almost killed by Hodr with mistletoe at Loki's behest.

I'm gonna use Tony DiTerlizzi (the spiderwick guy)'s illustrations here, cos they rock.

The good old Shapeshifting, Riddle-speaking Irish Faerie known as the Phooka.

Werewolves! Was the thing I was most scared of as a child, but as I have grown older, that fear has turned into fascination :) Its the thought of them being people turned feral.

And I'm not picky, I love the kind in Wolf(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_%28film%29) just as much as the kind in Underworld, uh and lets not forget the kind in Van Helsing. Oh yea and american werewolf in london.. they are just so diverse omnomnomnom

I love mythology, my favourite characters from mythology would be the Olympian Gods. They are all so colorful and entertaining to learn about. Zeus, Hermes, Artemis and all of the others are great characters, but my favourite is Athena. I don't know why exactly other than she was the first one I heard of and I was interested in her ever since.

Wait, favourite mythological creatures? Yeah the olympians arn't creatures but I felt as if I should mention them. Many mythological creatures are very fascinating. The gorgons, the Kraken, Dragons, Cerberus, but my favourite is the phoenix. I find it to be an amazing creature because of the ability to be born from the ashes after death.

You are correct, good sir. My mistake, little rough on my Norse mythology.

Why?
It's a huge bull-person often with a big axe. Why not?

I once heard, through an entirely untrustworthy source, that Hindu mythology contained a magical elixir that was guarded by a gigantic robot with circular sawtooth blades for hands. I have no idea if this is actually true, but if it is, it is the coolest thing ever.

In terms of less obscure mythology, fucking Typhon.
So yeah
He's described as a hundred-headed dragon with a dozen wings and a lower body composed entirely of snake tails, again, dozens of them, and is big enough to rip up mountains and chuck them about. Every god except Zeus ran in terror when he showed up, and as for all those other freakish Greek monsters? He was their dad.

I really wish there was a decent picture of this guy; all the art either shows him as a regular dragon or just a regular human with snake legs. Despite the fact that this is not how he is described.

EDIT: Let me just add the Mothman. Despite being recent and maaaaybe real, that one illustration of the dark, headless winged shape standing in the woods at night with the round red eyes on its chest has, without fail, scared the everloving shit out of me every time I see it.
