Ewww... Anyway, I wanted to say that there are too many choices and that it's very hard for me to come to a decision on this. It's better to ask me what I like least. Like...I wouldn't do a Bard unless he was a rock musician or something who hits people over the head like he's something out of FLCL.

Rogue/hunter, second being sorcerers. I like command of a battle, being able to pop in, pop out and hit the enemy fast and hard. Rogues are experts at this, and with the right combination of translocation/localized teleportation spells, a sorc can be pretty good at this too. Combine that with secondary builds specializing in crowd control and I become an unstoppable weapon of mass destruction or mass distraction.

Given in most RPGs I tend to play multiple runs through and enjoy the variety of character classes, it's a bit hard to say.
There are some common trends though.

Non magic using by preference, unless the system is overly harsh against characters who eschew magic but even then magic is taken at a minimum and with belligerent reluctance.
Always prefer to use gadgets or alchemy in its place if I can get away with it.
One of the appeals of the witcher series was the alchemy etc, though nothing has quite matched Arcanum as far as playing a gadgeteer/alchemist thusfar.

I do have to admit to a slight roguish leaning too.
That is to say, I have an alarming tendency to steal everything that isn't nailed down then return with a claw hammer to get the nails.
Okay, maybe that's an overstatement, but only a slight one.
If I had to use one word to describe my first run through any RPG it would probably be this.
"Yoink".

After I've fed my inner kleptomaniac and settled down, I do find myself gravitating towards ranger, but only because for some reason a lot of games seem to take the prompt of it having 'range' there in the name and then give them bows.
Bows are something I like to use too.

Hmmm... Is Bruce Campbell a class?

Behold! The glory of the rock bard.

I know a lot of people find the concept of the bard class to be screwy because singing in combat to "inspire" doesn't sound too useful but I'm ok with them. I figure they aren't literally just singing but rather using using musical patterns and will to shape magical energy. It kinda makes sense to me that you could do mind affecting magic in particular through music. It's still a bit of a weird position to imagine a protagonist in though. It doesn't look as bad ass as flinging fireballs or sword-fighting.

I tend to prefer playing pet classes, such as summoner or beastmaster. Especially if it's possible to capture/tame monsters.

Too bad that so few MMORPGs have good pet systems. So I usually just end up playing a healer or alchemist, or something like that. Support classes.
