Pretty much this, right down to the season breakdown. I thought S3 and S4 had some MOMENTS, but they were saddled with pseudo-mystical garbage and bizarre character re-writes, and the less said about the finale the better.

The first two seasons were phenomenal stuff. Up there with some of the very best shows on television.
I wish I could unwatch that finale :(

It's a tie between Firefly and Doctor Who, but if you're going for currently-running, then Doctor Who it is.

Fringe counts, so Fringe.

As much as I love cheesy sci-fi in space, I think Fringe outclasses all of those. All the episodes I've seen of Dr.Who are nonsensical. He just does whatever the hell he wants for the sake of his ego, and most of the time he acts like a psychopath about it. There's no drama or interesting plot devices, its just "hmm, what cool thing can we make the doctor do this week to make him look even cooler?"

Also the camera looks VERY unprofessional. I've seen youtube channels with better camera work than Dr.Who.

I am a bit of a sci-fi fan so;

- RDM's Battlestar Galactica.
- Stargate (all of them really)
- Farscape
- Andromida
- X-Files
- Firefly
- Dr Who

In no particular order.

Er...
Lexx (not because we share a name I swear)
Firefly
Dr Who
The first 2 seasons of the Battlestar Revamp
and Cowboy Bebop

I've just started watching Farscape but I don't have a comment on it yet. I like D'Argo, and the puppets are cool.
But I'm always on the lookout for more TV, yell at me for recommendations and I'll probably look 'em up.

Primeval and Starship Troopers: A Roughnecks Chronicle. I wish they finished the latter though...

Doctor Who. It's wildly inconsistent but there's nothing else like it, and I've been watching it all my life.

Runners up in no particular order - Star Trek (original series only!), Farscape (for wild inventiveness) and Max Headroom (because 80s cyberpunk is the best cyberpunk.)

(New) Battlestar Galactica, funny enough, i found the seasons 3 & 4 to be most amazing while 1 & 2 were just "nice". And series finale the best episode i've ever seen in any tv show.

Second place goes to Babylon 5.

Firefly, Mass effect, Dr Who, Torchwood...
Gotta love firefly, I grew up with Dr Who, Torchwood is badass, and Mass effect is one of the best written games series of all time. Still haven't played the third game yet though...
After exams....

Well lets see

Battlestar Galactica (2004): even though I'm currently on season 3 I would still say that the first two season are good enough that even if the 3 and 4 proved to be unsatisfying I would still rank this TV series as one of my favorite.

Firefly...obviously

Star Trek
Which one?....well to be honest Deep Space Nine. While TOS and TNG are more iconic I honestly think that in terms of storytelling and character development DS9 was the best in the franchise. That being said I still love TOS and TNG.

If we are also talking about anime

Cowboy Bebop

Macross and Macross Frontier

Full Metal Panic

Mobile Suit Gundam...No I'm not going to say which one because to be quite honest I don't even know which one is my favorite. Hell it was hard enough for me to decide on my favorite Star Trek TV series.

I can't say I've been in to sci-fi series since I was a wee lad. Therefore, my favourite series are pretty mainstream. My two favourite ones would have to be Firefly and the recent BSG.

1) Farscape!!! - the best sci-fi show ever, once you get past the first half of Season 1 where they are doing the famaliar normal joe doesn't get alien ways to get you accustomed to the new universe. Once you get to the last 4 episodes of Season 1 you will see why it is the series I have rewatched 5 times over. Just seeing the main protaganist's transformation as a character from start to end is an amazing thing. Thats what I enjoy, every character starts as one thing and through interaction with each other and events, they change who they are. These are as close to living breathing people as you can get on the screen.

2) The Whedonverse (Angel, Buffy, Firefly, Dollhouse) - do I need to explain? (also in that order)

3) Terminator: TSCC - did what I never thought possible, make terminator into a relevant and thought provoking exploration of humanity and how far you would go to protect your family or the world.

4) Battlestar Galatica (all seasons were awesome, period)

5) Stargate Universe

6) Fringe

7) SG1

8) Eureka

9) Stargate Atlantis

10) The Star Treks (Voyager, DS9, TOS, TNG) - in that order

Yes I love torturted characters (my top 4). Thats why I love Sci-Fi because it allows you to explore characters and situations from much closer than would be normally possible do to the distancing effect of the fanatistical.
I just love serial storytelling and love characters that change throughout the show.

BTW don't know if it counts, since its fantasy, but Once Upon a Time is quickly becoming a new favorite.

Battlestar Galactica ('new' one) is the only one I've watched. Annoyed me a bit as it felt like every second episode was based on a romance.
