Rebellion, and even that game, great design might it have been on paper, had its glaring flaws.

Close second, Empire Strikes Back on SNES.

All the rest was and is shite.

That app for your iPhone that puts you in the gunner of the Millennium Falcon and uses your camera to provide the background as TIE fighters fly towards you. I'd find the video of it but I simply can't be bothered.

Super Star Wars. Original trilogy. Difficult as hell but incredibly faithful to the movies right down to the soundtrack.

I also hugely love the Dark Forces series with Kyle Katarn, ever since the DOOM-ripoff Dark Forces, before I got the much better Jedi Knight cuz "Oh god yes I have a lightsaber and I can slash the shit out of people with it".

Shame you missed TIE Fighter then. It was on EIGHT FLOPPIES.

Knights of the old Republic, easily.

Followed at a distance by Republic Commando, Battlefront and Lego Star Wars.

As many people have said and probably will say, KOTOR. Such a brilliant game.

Jedi Outcast II, Battlefront 2 are up there as well.

X-Wing Alliance

or better yet: the fan-made conversion pack of X-Wing Alliance to Tie Fighter. Just wish they'd finished the expansions, too.

KOTOR more than likely the Old Republic once it comes out.

But for about 10 years of my life throughout Elementary and Middle school... This...

NO ONE HAS MENTIONED REPUBLIC COMMANDO?! WHAT THE FUCK! Republic Commando is the one game I regret selling along with my old Xbox.
Pretty much this. Couldn't have put it better myself, 'cept maybe minus the "selling my Xbox" part.

Knights of the Old Republic for me. Rogue Squadron on the N64 was great, too. I just got Rogue Squadron 2, and am looking forward to playing it as soon as my Gamecube controller comes in.

You missed Battlefront II? Which is incidentally my favourite.

LEGO Star Wars is also pretty good, if only for humour.

Also, I wish I owned Empire at War... played it round my friend's sometimes, I loved it.

Odd how nobody's mentioning The Force Unleashed (or few people at least), when it was apparently really popular.

Overall, it's KotOR hands down. They managed to mix core Star Wars elements with original concepts, which created a familiar yet unique setting which was a perfect background for the great story and characters.

TIE Fighter is arguably the game that has the most genuine original trilogy feel, and it's something we'll never really experience again. Great story and dogfighting, devoid of Jedi stuff. It also had the merit of being "realistic" (as in, your little TIE Fighter explodes after 2 hits).

I also really liked Jedi Knight 2. JK1 gets a mention, but I think it failed to relate to classic SW material. Take away the familiar aliens and lightsabres, and it could have been a custom setting. Jedi Academy had a wobbly story and began to dip into Force Unleashed-like ridiculousness.

Lego Star Wars 2 was pretty fun too. The first one was a bit disappointing because of the underwhelming RotS part.

Then there's a whole bunch of pretty good, if somewhat unremarkable, games. Republic Commando (made the prequel setting dark and serious), KotOR 2 (lots of potential, a bit wasted in the end with all the cuts and bugs), Rebellion (horrible presentation, but had actual strategy), Rogue Squadron (solid arcade sim), Empire at War (pretty decent RTS) and Galactic Battlegrounds (a glorified Age of Kings mod, but functional and fun). I was never a fan of the Battlefront series, I think the games are rather bland and the scale often feels too small (those space battles in BF2 were very underwhelming for instance).

I'm getting a bit disgruntled though. I think Force Unleashed is the worst thing to come to the series (yes, worse than Jar Jar), and the future looks a bit bleak. I have high hopes for SWTOR, but then again I think making an MMO is risky right now and I'm not sure how their story-based approach will fare.
