Does Steam count? If so, then Secret of Monkey Island 2: Special Edition.
If not then I've not actually pre-ordered a game ever.

Yu Gi Oh: Duelist of the Roses

Yeah, I know... I was young...

And to be fair, it was a game with an original idea

Metal Gear Solid on Playstation. So many hours spent on the Demo that came with the Official Playstation magazine, I knew I needed to pre-order. Well worth the money too.

Until I got my 360 I was always playing catch up on games - I got my PS2 and XBox well after all the good games were already out. I think my first preorder was probably Halo 3, and shamefully I only bought the standard edition. I looked pretty silly showing up at a midnight launch to pick up a game I could have picked up off the shelf the next day. Technically that goes for people who bought the special editions of Halo 3 as well, but we didn't know it at the time.

Super Mario Galaxy wasn't a Wii launch title either, but I still preordered it the same time I put my deposit on my Wii... then it came out over a year after it's predicted release date and I had long lost interest in the Wii by then.

Edit: Come to think of it, I guess Super Mario Galaxy was my first preorder. I got my 360 when Gears of war came out, which was a week before the Wii came out. I wouldn't preorder Halo 3 until well into the following year.
Weird. I still have ten bucks down on SMG at the EB Games I used to work at.

Civ V, dunno if I would have available cash in late September. So I bought it while I did have income.

Fable 2 I think, which was a mistake, considering I completed it in less than a week...

And it also halved in price in about two weeks after release.

I've never pre-orderd a game in my life.

I think pre-ordering is only necessary in countries like America or Japan where there are still actual lines infront of gameshops. I don't think I've ever seen a line infront of a gameshop in Holland.
If you pre-order from GAME in the UK, you get the game the day before release or earlier.
Surely this is illegal.

I don't know how street dating works in the UK but in Australia you get fired if you sell a game before the street date and the company gets a fine somewhere in the tens or even hundreds of thousands.
