We're all gamers here. We're also geeks, and there's nothing gamers and/or geeks love more than gadgets, which begs a question: Do you remember your first "gadget"?

For me, it was a tape recorder when I was about 11, one of those little micro-cassette dictaphones (an RCA if memory serves). I really don't remember why, but when I saw that thing behind the photo/electronics counter at a local grocery store, I thought it would be the coolest thing in the world to have. I did all the silly little things people with tape recorders do: impressions, silly radio shows, mock interviews, and more than one recording began with the words "Captain's log, stardate...". I had that thing for 7 years before giving it to my parents for a little legal battle they had with a contractor a few years ago.

I still carry this love today, and I've got about five little digital voice recorders all strewn about the house, in various jacket pockets, and even in my car. I think they're just cool.

So, what was your first gadget?

My first gadget, from what I can remember was some sort of handheld game.

An oldschool microphone that plugged into our even-older stereo system.

Friends and myself used to record our own radio shows, with music intervals an' everything. I did the sports section. It involved a lot of basketball hoops falling on people.

Though that was more a gift/something we nicked from my dad. o.o Still, it's the first thing that comes to mind.

Oh! Also, can't forget my tamagotchi. I got it in.. '96? I think? Anyway, it had like.. 3 buttons. It got buried in the sandpit at school when it died.

A little handheld Star Wars game. It was pretty crappy, but I still have it.

The first one I actually liked was probably a digital watch of some sort.

Gah!

I just had a flashback. I had a really huge, crappy plastic watch, that had a button that made it glow in the dark. It was purple. I had that thing for years.

Ow. Nostalgia hurts.

One of two things, either my gameboy, the original gigantic one, or the aptly titled "My First Walkman." Both were gigantic, but the Walkman (for those of you who don't know used to play a thing called cassette tapes) was giant, red, and see through where the buttons were. I fondly remember both of these.
