Mu Online, a shit load of grinding and random murders. However, I didn't mind the grinding because the whole I was competing with everyone else to kill the most mobs and obtain all the drops. I also had to be on the look out for reds (people who kill other players, their name turns red and their character gets a dark shade) because they popped up often.

World of Warcraft was my first MMO.
I remember entering the huge world and getting so amazed and in love with it. I had never played a game simular to it before. Since that day, over five years ago, I'm still having fun with the game. I haven't played constantly however... I dislike the game more and more after each expansion. Cataclysm did make the old world fun to play again, but it's all too easy now.
I started a new warlock the other day and hit 57 after less than a days play time. Seeing that everyone at level 85 has at least 100.000 hp also feels rediculous.

Other MMO's I've played;
Warhammer Online
Age of Conan
Lord of the Rings Online
Guild Wars(though I dont consider it an MMO)

The only one of those that comes close to the awesomeness of WoW is LOTRO. It's very immersive and can be slightly challenging, which made me love the game. When it got free to play it got less fun for the paying players however, so I've hardly played since then.

Ragnarok Online I believe was the first MMO I played. Tried a couple others but never really got into any of them besides RO.

First MMO ever?
Runescape, in grade 3, when everyone thought it was awesome.
Stopped playing by the end of the year I think, and I haven't played an MMO since.

I think that MMO's aren't really the game for me, they take up too much time (and money if they're subscription ones) and no one I know plays them...plus there's always the chance of addiction.

I tried Everquest briefly once, but the first one I really played was Furcadia. First actual MMORPG I played was Guild Wars, though I kind of like to consider Neverwinter Nights to be a pseudo MMORPG.

My first online gaming experience was Diablo 2: LoD online, which I would call close enough to an MMO setting. So. Much. Goddamn. Nostalgia. That was when I was a lot younger. I've since progressed to World of Warcraft, to Age of Conan, to Warhammer Online, and back around to casual FPS and RPG gaming, and, finally, to not gaming at all.

If they do, then I not only played but ran one before the graphical MMOs came around. If they don't, I'm not actually sure what the first thing I had my own account for was (as opposed to getting bored of it during the trial or using someone else's account). I guess Kingdom of Loathing back when it was new, if that counts, which it probably doesn't. Otherwise probably Free Realms before the UI overhaul that made it unplayable. Everything else before that, including WoW, annoyed me enough to not stick around past the trial/beta/whatever.

Runescape for most of my early childhood. Then I moved onto WoW, quit WoW and have just pre-loaded DCUO and am awaiting the day it goes live. 14th for the UK I think.

An old korean game called ''Legend of Mir'', also had a similar counterpart called ''Myth of Soma''. Gooood times.
