Don't be badmouthing the Bulbasaur. He is absolutely awesome. As you can probably guess, mine was Bulba :)

Charmander from Red. Mainly because one of my first pokemon cards was a shiny Charizard and he was my favourite.

Bulbasaur was my first in red version, Scyther in crystal (hack), Mudkip in sapphire, and Piplup in diamond. I have no idea what my first card was, but my first Burger King toy (the ones that came out right after the first movie was released) was Nidoking.

Charmander on Blue. I tried all of them on Blue, and that's still my favourite one to play as.

Totadile on Gold was by far the best from that generation...
ditto.. see what I did there

In my first save (Hey I was 7 or something, so give me a break) I did not use anything other than charmander, when I got more sane I think it was a sexy Pidgey.

I first got yellow, then blue/red. Don't know why...
Anyway, first was Pikachu, and I thought it was very infair that Gary (Named Blake, I think. I love my memory!) got the cute fox thingy.

Bulbasaur from Pokemon Blue, still got him (as in I've still got that save 12 years on), I'll never delete him. Blue is my favourite game of all time!

Cyndiquil on Pokemon gold but just wasnt the same without lugia =(
Cyndaquil for me too.

Also, I'm pretty sure, though its been a while, both legendaries were obtainable regardless of version. The only difference was their level and the order in which you get them.
I think having silver you get Lugia at level 40 then Ho-oh at level 70, then vice versa for Gold.

Charmander, if I remember correctly. Back on Pokémon Blue.
I guess this is it because I restarted about 50 times in the first months to keep naming the characters silly things, but the first time I had trouble with Brock.
I first completed the game with Squirtle though, unwisely training only him to level 90 with the rest of my team at around level 20.
