A question out of curiosity, how do you treat your friendslist here on the Escapist?

What makes you friend someone?
If someone friends you how do you respond?
Do you keep track of what people in your friendslist post?
What do you consider people in your friendslist to be?

Me? I'm like a digital hermit. Chillin' up in my digital shack o' wisdom not inviting anyone and only friending back people I've seen make various intelligent posts, mostly just overseeing all the forumlands under the blogosphere. And generally packing up my stuff and moving on when the Facebook empire starts invading or the Twitter tribes start raiding.

I friend people I've interacted with on the forums. Or rather I accept their friend requests - I'm shy when it comes to making the first move... So I have a total of 3 friends on here. foreveralone.jpg

If I'd had some good discussions with them (regardless of whether any agreement was reached or not), or if I've interacted enough with them around mutual interests.

Don't do much "friending" even then though, but I'll always accept, unless I have some particular reason not to. Even if didn't know them at all, there's no harm in being polite.

I don't have many friends...I let people add me first. Most of the friends I have currently are from Pony chat. I wouldn't turn anyone down, though.

I think I've only invited one of them, the rest invited me.

Usually it's the result of a brief quote/counter-quote session that we both enjoy.

I don't really do much about it though. Every few days I'll take a look at their most recent posts, but that's about it.

Oh, and I've made a couple of friends through our mutual adoration of Tim Minchin, which is awesome.

A Hermit's Cave
I have a reasonable list of EscFriends for my time here. And it's usually from long conversations on the forums (whether it's random banal daily life, piss taking, martial arts, WH40K or otherwise). I've friended about a third of them, and it's mostly after an exchange of at least half a dozen posts. The exceptions are the invite to HTE and a certain Brit (you know who you are) who friended me the instant it was realised I was a fellow scientist with a similar level of geekery.

Mines full of Escapit I've met in RL from UK Escapism. Also random folk who live near me and Just those who've come across me in the forums.

Can't say I go out of my way to add people, but will always friend back if I get a message off someone who's added me.

I have a large number of friends I added because they added me. We aren't the closest but generally we know of each other. I know who my best Escapist friends are and I'm pretty sure they know who they are too.

No friends.
Probably because I don't bother to make the first move.
And I understand I'm not that interesting anywayz.

Ah well, you see, I created my avatar myself (clearly with extremely well-developed artistic skill that is beyond the comprehension of the average human).
Thank you for the praise, it makes me feel happeh.

My friends list consists of people who've friended me and people who I thought were interesting through their posts.
Since I never really talk to people around here, I guess I'm starting to seem like some creepy Escapist user stalker... But it's the internet, so that makes it okay. Right?

EDIT:
Fun fact; I think two or three of my friends came from Glamorgan's How is that related? [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/362.228236-How-is-that-related] thread, which I'm happy to see is still chugging along.

I've added a couple of people who have simply made me laugh, that's really my only reasoning to do so.

I accept any friend invites that come my way, why not?

All in all, it's not something I really care about.
