Most of the games I play are intense action games; most involve shooting, or at least immediate danger every now and again. Occasionally before I continue with my character I like to take a break in a cosy spot. It gives me a secure fuzzy feeling inside when I make my way to the safe room in Team Fortress 2 on 4 health, and in games like Amnesia when I find the room with the baby fountain in I just spend a few minutes breathing it all in.

Any significant cosy spots that you keep coming back to in your favourite games? It could be a safe zone, the characters hometown or that particular corner of a room which hides you from being seen a lot.

I used to have a few. Jak 2 springs to mind. I had a great place out by the pumping station. There were these windmill islands away from the mainland, some of which you could get to, but some would trigger a submarine drone to kill you (which happens if you go out too far in Jak 2). So I always tried to get to the ones furthest away. I eventually did get them all, and when id get to them, id just hand out there for a minute.

Right now, its probably the Shrikes in Tribes Ascend. After a while of spin-fusing, its nice to just buy a Shrike and try run into people.

The encyclopedia in Dynasty Warriors 4 and 5.

Sometimes I like to just take a break from all the killing and read up on some Three Kingdoms history...

Since I was playing Far Cry 2 just before, I'll use one from there, can't think of any others off the top of my head...

But Mikes Bar in the first section, I always come back there periodically, whether to restock supplies, buy new weapons or just chill out with whichever handful of comrades are milling around inside, and forgot about all the atrocities being committed, and forget that those same 3 guards at the nearest guard outpost I've cleared out a thousand times will have already respawned.

Well the various saferooms in L4D come to mind. As well as the Invincible Freezers. Those closets that had unbreakable steel doors, they probably weren't freezers but hey that's what we called them.

Hilarious shenanigans abound when we just sat in one of those for a Versus match. The one just outside the Saferoom in Dead Air Chapter 2 I believe.

Oh and the gargoyles in the Predator sections in the new Batman games. Except later on when they just plant mines on them or do other dickish things XP

Oh oh, and a few select shops in Dead Rising, the ones that actually have closable doors. Don't you just love how you can actually spend the entire game sitting in one of your safe places?

I suppose horror games have a few thousand of these, the well paced ones anyway. From all the LPs i've seen of Amnesia people have a hard time letting go of the rooms that feel somewhat safe.

And the lifts in Dead Space 1/2 even if they very occasionally spawn a monster in one just to go ""safe zone? lolololololol no"

I like Theives landing in RDR. It's dangerous, but I like it there. Tend to spend a lot of time around that area, macfarlaine's ranch, and armadillo.

Silent Hill 4: The Room
The Room in SH4: The Room was a relief after crawling through the holes. Until the room starts to become dangerous, like if you leave something in there that attracts ghosts.

Crackdown
Any rooftop with a supply point. That'll ensure enough ammo to wipe out any hostile forces. Double easy if you've got a good explosives launcher.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
Freedom base, after befriending the faction. They seem to be a lot friendlier than duty. Plus, they're well equipped. It feels safer than the village in the cordon, or even the bar.

Serious Sam
Right before an obvious ambush, since I'll know what's coming and be able to prepare.

TESIII: Morrowind
The Legion forts. Full of helpful guards, if I remember correctly. Failing that, any house I've commandeered, or strongholds, for higher-ups in the great houses. No, I will no shut up about this game.

The highways around Panau city in JC2.
I've spent hours just driving around them at top speed.
I love it, It's calming after one of those infuriating agency missions.

Oerba in Final Fantasy XIII.

A place thats barren, destroyed, ghost town like was quite relaxing. Plus the music is great and adds to the "niceness" of it all.

All of Shadow of the Colossus when not fighting. And then some parts of Shadow of the Colossus when fighting.

More power to ya, Morrowind is amazing. I love taking shelter in the Mages guild in Balmora.

Flower... just let it in, man. let it in...

Also, I found that just driving around in Burnout Paradise, without doing any activity, is a pretty relaxing experience.

Historically i havent really stuck to any one game for long enough for it to become a cozy spot.

So ill just go with the giant beanbag on which i have another slightly smaller beanbag on which i sit when i play on my PS3. I certainly find it a cozy spot.

In Beyond Good and Evil, a game I recently got (late comer, so shameful) I like to return "home" to check up on the orphans between missions.

Bastion, I love Building up the Bastion and adding new stuff to initiate that sexy narration. A Nice and calm break away from the action.

STALKER: Visiting The Bar or The Rookies village, hanging out with other stalkers at camps during storms or late at night. This is made especially engaging when I have the Oblivion Lost mod installed and there are small chances of Blowouts or random mob spawns, which make even the places of rest a potential danger.

Fallout: New Vegas. Chilling out in The Sink with all my AI buds at Big Empty (Big Mt.).

RTS games... the Calm before a storm. I love the preparation and build up to a skirmish.

Skyrim: Jorrvaskr, sitting around drinking mead... the only thing that could make it better is a drinking animation and the ability to start a fist fight to test my might.

System Shock 2: Finding a room where I can Listen to the recordings of the deceased crew in relative safety.

The Witcher, finding a place to meditate and brew potions before a hunt or quest.

And many more...

Kharg Island on BF3 waaaaay up in the hill where nobody will ever come for you, with a big sniper rifle and a nice cup of coffee.

[EDIT] Hell, even when they do come for me I can usually take down 5 or 6 people in one pistol magazine anyway.

Same, but it scared the hell out of me when a body appeared in it...

either the desert in journey, or SOTC when youre not fighting. when i cant sleep, i play journey, and about 15 min. later, im down and out. its just that peaceful. instead of insomnia pills, they should perscribe a journey session.
