I have a weakness for any kind of games which I would like to call "creative solutions" in which there's more than one way to finish an objective or finish a guy off. Examples of these range from Half Life 2's differently varying weaponry, Dead Space's "tools", Prototype's shapeshifting weaponry, up to my most favorite Bioshock's unlimited potentials of plasmids and tonic combinations.
This is a good one, I was attracted to Assassin's Creed because of this (I realise there's not really that much freedom), and it's the reason I can't wait for AC2

I guess my weakness in video games is that I'm bad at them. I love video games. I spend a couple hours a day playing them (it used to be about as much playing as working, but that has declined significantly over time). Despite my love of them I'm just not very good at them. Some times its a question of me being bad at the controls at hand, sometimes I just don't grasp certain concepts that I should be getting. I'm just not that good and what that means is that I spend more time on a given game than is necessary. Not that its a huge problem but it means I go through games pretty slowly.

Something with ridiculously high content in it. Examples: Oblivion, Fallout, COD 4 (multiplayer wise), GOW 2 (Horde)
And games created by Ubisoft Montreal. I got the new Prince of Persia just because its a Prince of Persia game. Same with Assassin's Creed.

Shooters. Every Xbox 360 I own (besides Guitar Hero) is in some way a shooter. Yes, I classify (nerdy word) Grand Theft Auto 4 as a shooter, or at least has good shooting elements.

does losing your anger over absurd shots caused by low ping and lag spikes in Call of Duty count? No? Then onto the consoles.

Lego Series games, they always provided me with childish laughters and the puns involved, Until we got to lego Indie. It just DIDNT WORK like Star Wars.

Mario Kart Games, theres always that moment where your 1st place, almost at the line and BAAAAAAAM!!! Turtle shell and you fall back 8 places. After the 3rd time in a row I locked it into a safe in sheer annoyance, only to get it out two hours later and try and convince myself "I can do it this time" .... Not even going to explain what happened next...

1. Pokemon: I own, if my memory is correct, 12 individual pokemon games. And one of these days I plan on going out and getting Platinum and I look forward to the remakes of Gold and Silver. I just can't help myself.

2. Guitar Hero: I know the gameplay doesn't change and that most of the songs aren't my favorites and that Rock Band has more downloadable stuff that I love. But damnit I still am gonna get every game sooner or later. If only I could afford it.

My biggest weakness is... I'm not sure I can say it... Animal Crossing. *Sigh* I'm not sure why but I keep getting pulled into that game every time. Curse you Animal Crossing!

Any nice looking RPG or game I've heard good stuff about. I'm a sucker for an original design, e.g. I cannot put down Okami.

The Philosopher's Stone wasn't that bad; I actually quite enjoyed it.

My weakness is a game with a cover that looks like the artist was high on LSD when he drew it. That's how I discovered Psychonauts and Katamari Damacy.

Violence mostly. I have managed to turn violent video games into my frustration dampener. So the more I randomly mow down droves of innocent squishy people the less frustrated I get. Which according to the media is the opposite effect of what games are supposed to do, so I kind of wish I'd be someplace where a news crew trying to pitch that kind of BS would try interviewing me so I could laugh at them.

hehe I have this problem too... 'AAARGGH GOD I HATE THIS FUCKING GAME' [controller thrown on floor... TV switched off]

Very impatient when it comes to failing. Apart from online multiplayer where I will suck it up and try to get better.

I get especially frustrated with repeated fails in platforming games (Tomb Raider anniversary.. YUK)

Customization.

If it has it I will play it. I may not buy it, but I will play it.

Collectibles. Oh god collectibles. I have OCD when it comes to games, so much that I play really bad games just to finish them. (Such as the Half Blood Prince, ugh.)

Achievements are the worst with me, I just can't help myself. I'm an achievement whore (Who isn't though?).

The Pokemon games pull on my OCD terribly, because when I play them, I get Every. Single. One.

In a dungeon and come to a fork in the road? I have to go down each path just a little bit, so that I know what's down both of them, and which is the way I have to go, so that I can go the other way and get whatever is in that path before resuming down the main path.

Needless to say, it takes me AGES to finish games.

Completely random; basically if it catches my eye I'll probably get it eventually...

outside of the console isles, I have a horribly debilitating need upon occasion for "free" MMOs that I eventually end up quitting because they're generally boring or sinking more money than I'd like to speak about into >.<

Combos. I cannot for the life of me memorize or correctly perform combos in fighting games.

I agree with everyone that mentioned Pokemon. I have a compulsion to buy all the Pokemon games, even though they're all basically the same; I wish I was sensible and could limit myself to buying one game from each generation, but no. Somehow I end up with every game of each gen, despite the fact that they're very much the same, save for some differences in which Pokemon are exclusive to each. Still, at least they're good games which can be pretty addictive, even if they are repetitive in places.

Also, the Sims. I hate EA for the most part. I don't even play the games. (I used to years ago when I was younger, but I'm out of that phase now.) Still, I bought the Sims 3, just because I felt that it was necessary to own it. I played it for about an hour and then forgot all about it. This is why I will never be good with money.

In depth character creation. I can spend an hour sometimes more doing facial textures..hair styles..costumes etc etc etc. And on many occasions have even been know to flat out dump a game and restart if it doesn't look how i wanted it too rendered in game. Even if I'm a few levels in already.
wow, you pretty much said what I would, I love to customise as much as possible.
