The reason I am putting up this thread is because I just had a small, seemingly insignificant dab of Mad Dog 357 hot sauce.

I basically got forced into taking a hit, so I did as little as possible. The stuff that I licked off of my fingers was only the stuff that got on there from when I unscrewed the cap. I had seen somebody take a capful of the stuff at once, and they cried for a good 15 minutes. The hit I took started slow, and ended up with me feeling like my mouth was going to turn inside out. Sadly, none of the consumables I had around me were dairy related. I had to sit there and take it. I had some tears, I coughed, but in the end I lived. I'm not one for really spicy food, and that was beyond my limit by a whole lot. So, what do you think your limit might be?

I like my food spicy enough to get my attention, but I will never understand the appeal of people who eat habanero peppers straight, who put Blair's 6 AM Reserve into their chili, or who otherwise don't know the difference between flavor and heat.

I pretty much top out at the ancho chile. Anything spicier and it's crossed the flavor/heat line.

I regularly do shots of the hottest sauces me and my friends can find. I have yet to lose, and yet to vomit, unlike all of my friends.

EDIT: the hottest one I can remember was something like "Ass in the Tub" (or maybe 'can'?) I love spicy food, but, when I'm actually eating, it needs to have flavor to match the spice. While not being very hot, Frank's RedHot Sauce is one of few that do it well.

Wait? There is a hot sauce named after me? Why all the numbers? And the least they could do is spell my name right!

OT: I try to keep away from Hot Sauce as much as I can. Not because I can't take, but because I'd rather not find out if I can or can't.

It's a myth that the spicier something is the less you can taste it. Your taste buds adapt to spicier foods. I put naga chillies in my chili on rare occasion, and it's delicious. The whole reason people go spicier is if they really enjoy spicy food, as I said, their tastes end up adjusting, so what was spicy before is no longer enough to give it a kick. My girlfriend used to find tikka masala a bit burny, and now she can eat jalapenos straight, just because since we eat together and I like spicy stuff, her tastes began to adjust.

I love hot sauce, but I agree with SimuLord: there's a line between flavor and pure heat that shouldn't be crossed.

That said, I managed to make myself vomit at one point with over-liberal application of a friend's homemade salsa.

I eat a lot of Hot sauce and never really felt anything. I'm talking about strong Mexicans sauces and those that have over 40 spices.

I put hot sauce on pretty much everything.

No, seriously.

Even waffles.

I wasn't talking about heat level per se. I was talking about the Scoville-for-Scoville's-sake hot sauces that are all about the burn but without the capsaicin would be Wonder Bread.

If you're going to add heat, you need to add a corresponding amount of flavor or you've upset the balance. I personally find the sweet spot above the jalapeno and below the "extreme". Some folks (Del Taco, for example) call that "inferno", others (the chili heads) call it "mild"...most folks would call it medium.

I don't touch any spicy food. Don't see the point anyway. Why have pain as I eat? I'd rather just have flavour, cheers.

As a person who is currently trying to make his diet all spicy foods, I can take quite a few drops of the hottest hotsauces. Something about the flavor makes me want more.

Hell yes, love that stuff. Personally, I love spicy food, but if it's so hot that I can't even taste the food anymore, then it's past my limit.

Jalapeno - A joke
Rolleno (sp?) - A tastier joke
Habanero - Delicious joke
Ghost Chili - Not a joke, not a food, just a device to cause pain. Pepper juice from one of those bad boys will burn skin worse than mace. I knew I was in trouble when they brought me gloves to eat the wings with...

I felt like Homer at the chili cook-off eating mexican insanity peppers for the first time. You go from the spicy food hero to the blister tongue zero in one bite.

It's been a few hours, and now my stomach is starting to burn. Way beyond my limit. It's gonna be great tomorrow morning with marching band rehearsal and all.

I prefer flavor to heat. I don't dislike spicy food but, if there's no flavor I see no point. I don't usually test my threshold so I dunno where I stand but it's probably on the lower end of the scale.

I haven't reached my hot sauce limit yet. I've consumed and enjoyed every spicy food I've ever eaten.

Par example: My ex-girlfriend bought me a bag full of hot sauces from around the world for my 21st birthday.

Gallaetha_Matt = pretentiously speaking French in Hot Sauce threads since 2002.
