Not sure whether or not to put this in politics or off-topic, as this is a customizable thread. Mods, feel free to move it :D

After seeing my partisan government flounder around over planned parenthood, putting millions out of a job, and making the entire country pay for it(while they still get paid), i ask a question.

What is your ideal government? Democracy? Dictatorship? Monarchy?

What legislative body would dictate laws? Or would you?

It's all up to you, feel free to add as much or as little detail as possible.

I myself, love the American democratic system, it seems to work.. without political parties.
I will copy and paste the government in place, place myself as high ruler(still have a president, but I am above everyone, but I would intervene very infrequently) and make a law banning political parties, those violating this law would be thrown into prison for 4 years.

Multiple governments, where if you don't like the way one works, you can switch to another one.

My ideal government is pretty much the one outlined in the US Constitution. A very limited federal government with few powers: foreign diplomacy, military, interstate affairs... and not allowed to butt into places that its not specifically told it can butt into.

I stand by the sentiment "that government is best which governs least"

my favorite analogy is that government should be the referee, when someone infringes upon the rights of another it allows the framework to address the grievances in question. It should NOT be the coach, telling everyone how to play.

Completely ideal? No government.

Governments are there to do things private enterprise can't pull of properly for certain reasons, usually greed and legal issues. But in my utopia, everyone would be able to do that, the people would be able to truly govern themselves. They would be able to set up a efficient healthcare system that wouldn't revolve around profits, for example.

Sadly, that'd require a substantial change in human nature, and I ain't seeing that happen.

Unification. The race unified through telephaty, working towards the common good/goal. Will take some centuries and genetic mutation to achieve, but whatever. Hive-mind also works.

I've actually been thinking of a new type of government.

The leader would be one person, s/he would be elected by everyone BUT s/he would have to be the leader whether s/he wanted to or not, as long as s/he is legitimate for the position.

The only real power the leader would have would be to veto things, to say no to the groups that run everything in case something goes against what s/he believes is right.

Governments are complicated things, and NOBODY is going to be able to make even the most skeletal outline of a government system in just one thread comment.

Assuming we're taking this seriously...

Democracy is great, but individual political parties aren't. There needs to be greater participation in politics; people should somehow get to directly participate in politics, rather than vote on representatives. This would most basically be accomplished by a forum, a combination of online and physical discussion areas, perhaps with the involvement of specific advocacy groups. Ideas move up to action via petition and referendum, and are helped by an organizing body that's a kind of a consolidated bicameral parliament, but influenced by individual citizens and groups that aren't under a single political affiliation.

At the same time, we should be voting for people who manage government and government services. This includes the aforementioned parliament overseers, but also people that head government sectors such as health, transportation, and education. These people get voted in to ensure they're doing the best possible job at managing government services, again making government more intimate, by allowing people to better dictate how government services are run, and letting them choose who they think is the most qualified leader in a certain area. Naturally, these officials will be some of the most competent in their field, or may be made up of a citizen-elected cabinet (i.e. one or two public doctors, a couple people specialized in health or pharmaceutical management, etc.)

Do this, and the world's set.
