Come on, admit it, we all have that little realm we imagine up that we happen to either be a king or great hero within. Most likely set roughly in the Medieval or Renaissance times. You probably already drew up your armor and fantasy weapons.

It's not just me, right?

And of course, maybe brought along some of your friends to the lesser positions/characters, and draw up designs for warships and other such battle craft, and maybe think about (for the king people) what policies you'd impose upon the people.

So, share. You've got an imaginary kingdom, you're el presidente-king, and it's free game. You start off with a kingdom of about 10'000 (small start, but anyhoo). You have average funds, and everything's running smoothly; you're put into power.

Here's the free game. You get to choose the form of government (doesn't have to be a real one), the policies, the laws. You even get to be involved with the architecture and the armaments. Hell, why not head into battle? Do you want more territory, or are you a defensive nation?

Will you conquer land, or share with other like-minded Escapists, maybe like a counsel? What will be some defining points about your kingdom?

This was all I was thinking about for a while. I'll share mine later. I know there must be tonnes of video games with this basic idea, but still, none of the ones I've known ever have just what I'm looking for.

Let the castle-building commence.

My "kingdom" is more of a walled settlement/fortress, based off of viking villages, in a secluded area. I don't know why but whenever I picture it, its usually mid-winter.

The back of the settlement is a Mountain with caves that can be used for storage or in the case of a seige. A waterfall comes off the mountain a forms a stream that empties into a fresh water lake, filled with the tastiest fish. There are also plenty of feilds for grazing animals and crops.

My position is a warrior/common man, though my jobs are head engineer and general/commander of the settlements malitia.

Its more of a modern time and we have guns but we also use swords and other old weapons.

Only one so far? Hm, I may have put this in the wrong forums. Should I have moved this to Forum Games, or is it suitable here?

I would like to rule in a more stable version of the present, screw the medevial times. I would have LAN centers all over the place and the national sport would be TF2.
Fierce competitions from the other kingdom's, I'd imagine. How do you feel your team would fair?

Well, my schools would replace the unimportant things like RE and PE with TF2 from an early age, including theory and practicle. Oh and all the obeese little ignorant runts that this would create could go jogging for homework, and read good books.
Hey,you could have Modding as an art class!

I'd like to build up the entire kingdom--high walls around the entire border, every inch of land covered in buildings, walls, pavement or cobblestones, farms raised up and set in special districts to feet the city-state. Walls, archways and bridges going everywhere like something MC Escher would draw while drunk at 3AM, with fountains spouting from hidden pipes and aqueducts bringing water to the citizens. And in the center of it all a towering citadel, and in the very top room, a room with walls of glass, a single chair, and in that chair, me.

Just an idea off the top of my head.

A pretty damn Economically powerful nation, with high amounts of oppression. Everyone is Barcoded so you can keep track of them, everyone wears the same basic apparel, like City 17 Jumpsuits. Most Civil rights are gone. (Yes, we guard the borders, no escaping for YOU)

The Police are incredibly overfunded, to clamp down on crime. Lethal force is to be used at the Officer's discretion.

We use Nuclear Power as our electricity source, to protect the environment (we dump the waste in rival territories). Actually, there is almost no pollution, as all the vehicles are those fancy Hydrogen Fuel Cell ones.

Our Military also gets an awful amount of funding, and consists of specially created Hybrid Soldiers. The immense amount of money pored into it means we have the most sophisticated tech in the world.

Healthcare is State Funded. Because that works.

Since Ethics and Free Media don't exist here, genetic experimentation is widely used, and is in fact encouraged by the Government.

Speaking of Government, no voting for YOU. I'm in power, and my team of 54 are in charge.

Definitely a dramatic painting.

My kingdom is still in development, but with any luck, I can get drawings up this week.

My fantasy kingdom would be a gigantic hollowed out mountain. Large vents would allow sunshine and fresh air into the massive structure, while a system of pipes, pumps, and hollow walls would distribute fresh water from an underground river.

The centerpiece of the structure would be a massive public hall, where the history of my kingdom would ingraved on the walls, and masterfully crafted statues of past rulers, heroes, and other important historical figures could be admired by all, and an artificial waterfall crashes down through a hole in the center, disappearing into the depths below. Strange caged animals from all over the world fill the zoo, imported by the many merchants that visit my kingdom every season.

The kingdom has relatively few entrances, the main entrance being a set of magnificent gold-plated doors, wide enough to let an entire army pass, and several stories high. Small holes surround those doors, allowing archers to fire on anyone below in case of a siege. In case of emergency, the leader of my military only needs to pull a switch to fill the entire area surrounding the mountain with lava pumped from underground, incinerating any invading army. Smaller entrances, which can easily be sealed off for defense, can be found at all sides of the mountain, allowing merchants, hunters, and others to do their business without having to go through the main gate.

The entire complex is made up of several levels. There are levels dedicated to the luxury dwellings of the nobles and to the less-luxurious quarters of the commoners, levels for traders, merchants and craftsmen to ply their trades, levels devoted to the housing and training of my army, levels devoted to entertainment, to the entire food-processing industry (from underground farms and ranches to kitchens and bakeries), etc.

I could go on and on, but suffice to say that I play too much Dwarf Fortress. :p

My kingdom would be the definition of Lawful Neutral. Laws would be enforced strictly and without mercy, and all crimes would be treated as equal, working on the belief that to stop big crimes, you have to prevent the little ones first.

Of course, there would not be a cult centered around the king (me), because that would be silly. There would be no state-sponsored religion either, mainly to a) reflect my own religious beliefs, and b) minimize the chance of a kingdom with an opposing religion declaring war on me.

The military would be built up with the best tactics and equipment, with a sufficient number of people to fight an extended offensive or defensive campaign, working on the idea that the best defense is a good offense.

EDIT: Of course, my first order of business would be to attack and then utterly annihilate all the pansy pacifist Lawful good nations, because they would not expect it.

Drawings? You're putting quite a lot of effort into this. I look forward to seeing them.

Funny really, i have never imagined a "kingdom" of my own. This is coming from someone who has imagined 3000 years of a fictional human civilisation in outer space, for entertainment.

Hm...
I would be Emperor of a large Empire which surrounds a large central inland sea. To the north are inhospitable mountains and frozen wastes, to the far south, dense rainforest. Both the frozen wastes of the North and the dense southern jungles hide exotic and dangerous creatures. To the east and west there are high mountains and volcano's, which all encircle the Empire, home to dragon's and other cool creatures. Most of the climate in the Empire varies between continental and Mediteranian. There would be a number of organised cities, with forum's, public bath's, aqeuducts, odeon's, theatres, academies, temples, army barrack's and basic factories. The culture in the cities is recognisably Roman, however only more scientifically advanced, with the steam engine being used in the factories and to power a basic form of railway which connects the cities, as well as paved highways. In the countryside, you find the more tradional way of life, with villages and small towns, centered around a Great Hall where the village meet up to party and hear folk tales from the bard's beside a warming fire, with much mead, cider and beer available. The people work on collectivised and individual farms, lumbercamps and in mines, all providing raw materials for the cities. Each city area and tribal community has an elected cheif or lord who sit on a senate, who do much of the leglistation and law making of the Empire, supervised by me, the Emperor, and a selected council of judges.

I directly control the army, which is a proffesional ,full time military force. It is a balanced army of infantry, archers, artillery and cavilry. Infantry units consist of phalanxmen, spearmen armed with bill hook's, and swordsmen who are armed, trained and equiped very much like the Roman legionary's where. Archer's use recurve or longbows bows, whilst the cavilry come in two forms. Light cavilry are to scout and chase down enemies, heavily armoured cavilry flank round the enemy whilst the phalenxmen pin them in place, and attack enemies from behind. The light cavilry may also make hit and run attacks against the enemy, and can serve as cavilry archers if needs be. There are also arcani, who are highly trained warriors, assasins, secret agent's, commando's and spy's, profficent in all weapon types. If in battle they wear custom made leather or steel armour, but generally fight in forms of unconvential warfare. I also make use of cannon's and howitzers to provide artillery support. Most of my armies are either stationed in the numerous castles and fortresses which are built into the mountains which surround the Empire, overlooking possible invasion roots.

I myself would have a formal palace in the captial city where i reside when the Senate is in session, and in the winter and summer holiday's i would reside in my rather secretative and seculuded mountain fortress, protected by my own special Emperor's Personal Guard army.

In my kingdom everyone dies a lot. Killing is a socially accepted form of getting what you want. It's all cool though, they're just back the next day. Think of it as the physics from FLCL, spliced with the casual insanity of Wonderland and topped with Cthulhu.

Heavily progressive Future/Steampunk nation, à la Treasure Planet. Massively trade-orientated, but strong enough that nobody fucks with us.

There are many things I would do here is a short list:

1. Everything I say is law
2. In the chance that there might be some disagreement with me, refer to #1.
3. Just kidding. I actually believe in a free society with some very stringent requirements.

First: All people who wish to lead society will be unable to have any wealth whatsoever. All needs will be taken care of, but no one gets to get rich, or to benefit their rich friends.

Second: The greater the gift, the greater your obligation to society. If you have a great ability, then you owe it to society to use it to benefit everyone

Third: Huge investments in research and thought

Fourth: Huge investments in technology and military to protect my kingdom from people who are envious of our success

Fifth: harems - totally cool. As long as it is mine, and I don't share with anyone else.
