Okay, I know we had a thread recently about people's musical heroes, and another one about the last new bands anyone listened to. However, this is slightly different, while also very similar to each.

A story for you first. I happen to live near a 24-hour Co-op store (Co-op is a UK supermarket chain that also branches into all sorts of stuff like funerals, insurance, finance, travel, pharmacies, etc.). Late at night over here (around one o'clock, in fact) I popped out to pick up some stuff, and while I was in there on the radio there played this really catchy song. It was a folk-sounding song, with hints of indie artists such as Noah and the Whale, Regina Spektor, and Laura Marling. I soon found myself entranced by this beautiful song and the amazing female vocals emanating from the store speakers. As soon as I got home, therefore, having memorised the chorus I searched on the internet for songs with said chorus. My search led me to this...

Upon researching further I found that the band are a Scottish group, mainly indie rock and folk (more folk than anything though), and formed in 2006, having very recently started to gain more widespread recognition after the song I heard was included on the trailer to the film 'Tamara Drewe' (a great film, by the way, one I heartily recommend to all). Which also explained why the song sounded oh so slightly familiar to me. And now I'm literally in love with this band, and eagerly await further releases, including their debut album.

And that's my story for you. Now, therefore, in this thread I want everyone to think of bands and artists they've recently just discovered and fell in love with almost instantly. It may have been from hearing a particular song, as I did, or from reading something you liked about a band or artist, or anything you can think of. Post your choices here, ideally with a song or two from them, and share the love with the rest of the Escapist community :D.

It may not necessarily be a band, but I recently watched Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog for the first time and I have fallen madly in love with the entire soundtrack.

You're telling me that I can go to the store, buy all my groceries, and then set up a wake for a recently deceased loved one?

America, you suck! I'm moving overseas!

This band, Crystal Castles. Oddly sad electronic music. There's a great remix of one of their songs with the vocals done by The Cure frontman (can't remember his name right now...), but I can't find it.

Sadly no, they have different stores for different services. You'd have to go from the Co-op supermarket to a Co-op funeral parlour separately, unless the supermarket was one of the big ones that has a desk for other services too. Though even then it offers more than Wal-Mart ever has done (and I've been to Wal-Mart, when I was in Florida. It kinda sucked.)...

I discovered 2 artists that are quite different, yet both pretty good.

Inactive Messiah is a melodic DEATH metal band from Greece quite similar to Daath, for those who know the band. I emphasise "death" because unlike other many other melodic death metal bands polluting the metal scene these days, Inactive Messiah is actually quite heavy. Their musical hook is the use of orchestral elements in a similar fashion to how bands like Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir (among others) have done in the past. These symphonic layers in their music provide a big boost to the songs by creating an atmosphere that would be otherwise unobtainable. Strongly recommended to anybody into metal that enjoys musical substance as well as brutal musicianship. Also, there's a cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat It" which is pretty entertaining to listen to.

On the other end of the spectrum is Andrew W.K., who I had never heard of before recently but now love. It's extremely well crafted hard rock music that has the strongest "party" theme I can think of in any example. My favourite song is "Ready To Die" (which is great to listen to when playing a shooter), but also deserving of note are "Party Till You Puke" and "Party Hard". The overarching message appears to be this:

PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD PARTY HARD

Look into it. You will regret nothing.

Hey Trivun, did you know that Tamara Drewe is a comic book movie? I was really surprised to find that out after seeing it.
Anyways the song you posted is really good. I have a ciminally low amount of female singers that I listen to.
and finally on topic, my ipod died recently and since it's broken I've been listening to a lot of NPR (I can't stand the normal DJs and ads), which has been playing a huge range of different stuff from classical, Jazz, folk, and I heard some of the Black keys. But what was really crazy was a few days ago they were playing a version of "Fever" by a crazy Cuban lady. It's pretty good.
I've listened to the song from the little big head two commerical a bit too.
oh yeah, I've been giving the Japanese band the pillows a listen too after really liking their stuff from the anime FLCL

I stumbled upon this work by MosDef. He's mainly known for his hiphop tracks, but he's got chillful voice with the right concept work.

the soundscape is just beautful to the ears...awwhhhh....8'D

Bach. Specifically, the Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis (Bach Musical Catalog). Specifically the 500-770 order. ('Werke fur Orgel', or 'Works for Organ')

Song/band I've most recently discovered would be Submersed. They WERE a Texas hard rock band, and of course I would find them three years AFTER they break up. Go me!

That said, I really like 'em. My favorite song has to be Hollow.

The music video kind of sucks, but the musics great.

Never have I heard a Hard rocker so willing to go falsetto, or so capable of pulling it off.

After reading something by John Ringo, and seeing how many times he mentioned Winterborn by the Cruxshadows, I had to look it up.
And DiRT 2 introduced me to the following
