what are your least fav franchises in history?

for me

Resident Evil: I think entire franchise is very overrated especially resident evil 4 which has terrible controls and combat system. never really find apeal of Resident evil. and franchise is note even scary at all.

GTA: quite simply the most overrated franchise in history of mankind even worse that most of games recieve 10/10 is just not very good. GTA games have mediocre driving and shooting which are core elements. beside most of missions are also boring and repetetive.

Tomb Raider: Early games were mediocre and newer games are uncharted clones to compete with uncharted. franchise wouldnot be popular and will be forgotten if it include a male protagonist.

Mass Effect: They are hailed as one of the greatest RPG but its cover based Shooter. and shooting in this game is also mediocre. i couldnot complete mass effect 2 or 3 because i was so bored. its utterly generic space opera with one of the most bland and dull protagonist i have ever seen.

Halo: I played halo 1 2 and 3. and found all of them below average shooters. never played others so i cant comment on them.

Call of duty: First ever COD was good but still average game at best. rest are pretty bad especially COD4 which was praised as best FPS of that time but it was not. it was a game that single handedly ruined entire FPS genre.

Assassins Creed: One of the World worst franchise. release every year rehash over n over again. AC have very easy and simple repetetive gameplay and require no challenge at all.

so what are yours?

I have a better idea, why not do, favorite franchises we DO enjoy and the reasons why

can for once we have a positive discussion that celebrates video games? At the end of the day is all opinions and 4 out of 10 people simply choose well loved and popular franchises to cause a reaction from the general public aka troll bait

I have seen so many similar threads like this and usually saying the same games that honestly I just don't care anymore.

Before hand I never got into RTSes, I wrote them off. But then I started playing games like Warhammer Dawn of War and Medieval 2 Total War and enjoy them.

I was one the hate wagon for Mass Effect. I was turned off from Mass Effect 1, and I heard Mass Effect 2 and 3 being "shit" and I followed and agreed with people who says its shit as if I was a mindless sheep since I never played Mass Effect 2 and 3.

But than I grew to love the entire Mass Effect trilogy. I bought all the DLC.

And how many times do I have to hear Call of Duty, Halo, and Assassin's Creed bashing in this day and age? What is this 2008-2011?

I mean come on have some originality with game bashing.

That's...kind of difficult to answer.

If I play a game and I don't like it, I'm not going to bother with the other games in the series, so I can't technically say X is my least favourite series, because I've probably only ever played part of a game in that series.

Hmm, hard to say. Even if I don't like something, I tend to just forget about it.

The only games I really hate are mobile games that prey on people's addictions. Games that are built around addiction, and can ruin people's lives. I read about a guy spending tens of thousands on mobile games. There's no excuse for that. I may dislike Halo, but it doesn't ruin people's lives. Corporate greed at its worst.

My least favorite franchise is the one you like most. It's an objectively bad franchise that shouldn't have had one release, let alone whatever we're up to. In fact, it's so bad, I've never even played it, but that won't stop me from repeating bad things I heard about your favorite franchise from an angry man on YouTube.

Everybody who likes your favorite franchise aren't real gamers anyway, unlike the people who like my favorite franchise, which defines all of gaming.

PS: My jokes are bad, and yes, I feel bad.

Least favorite in a franchise? That is saying which franchises I had played little or once of since I didn't like it?

OT- I guess maybe Mass Effect 1 ? It's ONLY because I couldn't get into it and I got stuck early in the game (last save took me at the start of the level but I cannot survive that level to progress to the next save).

That one you really love. You know the one.

OT: From franchises I've played all the games in probably Uncharted. 2's the only fun one in my opinion. I actually fell asleep at parts of 1 and 3.

Overrated isn't even game criticism. It's just saying "people enjoy this game too much". Who are you to determine how much other people can enjoy their games? Only douches do that!

OT: Candy Crush. It's totally overrated.

I hate all the well known franchises because they are overrated, mainstream, dumbed down, sell out franchises. Fortunately I'm an independent free thinker with objectively superior taste in absolutely everything and not a mindless sheeple who just slurps up the grey paste churned out by the soulless corporations, man.

I especially hate that one franchise you like. Yes, you. That franchise you like is a bad franchise and only dumb sheeple like it.

Oh definitely Undertale. Its a shame too, they had such a strong start.

If only they had stopped pumping out sequels while they were ahead.

It would have to be something that not only offends me, it must also be a detriment to society by numbing their brains and somehow still making all their money back while getting enough loud, dumbass people to incessantly bang on about it and how i should totally get into it. That doesn't really happen with games as i maintain a healthy distance from ten year old fanboys and the hype machines. Having an underground pit of despair really helps block out these societal niggles. Maybe Candy crush, or the sims...both equally sinister and disturbing to consider.
Final fantasy? I dunno, as a very young teenager it looked neat. But they're all just one-dimensional dress up dolls that feels like the most desperate attempt at "cool" and "badass" marketed at people that only look skin deep. It feels like there could be an amazing story told in that universe (or universes? Is it just the one?) if it wasn't written by easily distracted baby chimps trying to impress their pet magpies. Frustrating stuff. Oh and Squeenix are a stealth evil corporation that people should trust no more than EA.

Personally, I see it as part of the appeal.
While the story is batshit crazy, the madness also applies to gameplay and the sheer detail to a lot of the stuff in game so there is a TON of neat extras and features.
Psycho Mantis, looking at the back of the CD case for a puzzle, "Fission Mailed".
That and it gave us Metal Gear Rising, hard to hate a series that gives us something that stupidly awesome.

I don't know, I don't really hate that many games, but there is one that I absolutely detest. It's so grossly overrated that I'm honestly sickened that people can even like it, and the franchise is ...

Damn it, you stole my joke ... before I wrote it.

Edit: It seems everyone else used this joke as well, hooray for the hivemind.

In all seriousness, these threads never go anywhere productive. A lot of people take criticism of their favorite things personally, and a lot of people seem to lack the the capacity to criticize without making it personal, so it's only a matter of time before this turns into one giant shit-flinging contest. Honestly, what else could this thread possibly be? It's basically a thread where people pile up a load of popular franchises and call them shit, or overrated, usually for extremely vague reasons like "it's just shit" or "the gameplay sucks" or "the story is shit".

I don't get it either.
People bring up the gameplay, which is like saying a movie has gameplay because you get to push buttons on a remote.
And the story is such utter nonsense I wonder how people can connect to it on any meaningful level. The reiterative dialogue, the tone-death performances, the boring characters, the dumb convoluted plot..

Well, I can only comment on ones that I actually played and stopped playing. Because why would I be able to hate something I didn't even try, right?

So for the franchises I used to enjoy but fell off the wagon, I'd put these in the following order. There's probably more but this is kinda vague post anyway...these are all personal opinion guys/gals, don't take anything I say seriously.

1) Need For Speed: Used to be more fun when it had a tiny bit more realism, and stopped being all flashy and ridiculous. I dropped this around the time of Carbon, only picked up around Pro Street which I quite enjoyed. I got sick of cop chases and gave Shift a try but didn't like that all too much.

2) Assassin's Creed: Started off really, really strong. Loved being an actual Assassin, plotting and executing the perfect hits. Combat was the best in the first 2 as well. Then it just turned into a formula, the assassins were meaningless, lots of boring collecting and fetch quests. Protagonists bored the hell out of me, as well as the settlement mini game.

3) Gran Turismo: Yes I'm a racing fan. Yes, part of the reason I LOVE racing games is because of GT. I played GT 1-4 anywhere from 95-100% completion. And anyone who knows how big these games are (including the Endurance races) knows that takes a hell lot of commitment. But then they completely castrated the purpose of this grind by introducing microtransactions, and rebalancing the grind towards that. No finding your favorite race to win cars and sell them for cash, no, they want you to lay down real money. And in GT6, where a car can cost up to $120 REAL DOLLARS, yeah you can stick that one up your cracker.

The sensitivity in this thread is amazing. I think we should stop these threads just so I can stop seeing how boring people are with their one joke.

Anyway, World of Warcraft and it's expansions. I originally enjoyed it until they started selling everything separately. It was a nice challenge to earn your mounts, then you could buy all the 'glowiest' mount crap for $20. Fucking rip off and shitty ass business at it's worst! And the piss poor excuses for buying final level characters is amazing! Lineage 2, an MMO a lot poorer than WoW, gives you the option to select multiple classes on one characters, something that shouldn't be hard to copy.

Hardly any threads go anywhere. It's just an opinion thread like any other, except calling something 'bad' (you know what I mean) is really offensive to some here. You see the same sensitive people chuck shit at reviewers who don't feel the same as they do, even if the reviewer likes what they're reviewing. It's just selfish. This thread can be so easily ignored, and yet they have to try and force their values on others who don't give a shit anyway.
