The other day, there was a thread about difficult choices you have to make in gaming. In that same thread, I had nothing perfectly on topic, but I posted a little story from Soul Sacrifice on the PS Vita.I had to make a very tough choice, but had no option to change the story line, and the actual "option" I had didn't change a single thing except prolong the sad moment. I'll copy the post here for you users to see: (Note, spoilers ahoy)

"I was playing Soul Sacrifice (Never heard of it? It's Vita exclusive, that's probably why) in which you sacrifice enemies to gain power or save them to gain defenses and HP. I was at the start of the game with this ***** of an angry woman named Sotiara. I was going through the Sorcerer's Ordeal, which was where I would be partnered with someone and end up killing them at the end of it (though that was only explained halfway through this character arc). All of this just to join some damn sorcerer's group in castle Avalon. Yay...

Anyways, I hated her, obviously. She was angry and kept talking about blood and killing and how she'll murder me if I fuck up. Suddenly she starts getting a bit of sympathetic back story, and by the end of the Ordeal, I didn't want to kill her. I became her first and only friend, and apparently one of my character's few (or maybe only) friends.

The battle started with a tragically sad piano tune with her saying how she's sad it has to turn out this way, and she wishes things could've been different and how she wishes we could've stayed friends with me yelling "STOP SAYING THAT SHUT UP RIGHT NOW!" cause I didn't want to hear it with this horribly sad music. Anyways, I knock her down and am given the choice to save her or sacrifice her, the latter option being the objective.

I thought I had a true story affecting choice, so I tried saving her. She gets up, starts fighting and says "Why would you do that...? Aren't you only going to make this more difficult?" and that's when I realized I had absolutely no choice... I hated having to kill her. It really really really sucked.

Decently good game, made me feel emotions not often brought up by other titles~ A little bit fucked up though, if you can't already tell x.x"

So, Escapists, have you ever had a moment like this in your gaming experiences? Do tell~

An interesting tale, however seeing as how Soul Sacrifice isn't even a year old you might want to put a spoiler tag in there.

On topic, I can't remember the last time I had to make a 'difficult' decision in a game. The supposed morality doesn't really affect make because in my experience I've found video game characters to have more akin with marionettes. However, as for your point about making a decision that you feel matters. I'd say I felt absolutely vindicated with the last choice in the Witcher 2, I was so very glad it was an option and so very glad with the option I took.

Yay, another opportunity to talk about Front Mission 3!
So, early on in Front Mission 3 you make a little choice that will determine what campaign you'll play. There is campaign where protagonist joins Chinese and another one where he joins Americans. Two campaigns are completely different. So, in American campaign you are joined by that guy named Marcus. He's big, funny, strong and kind hearted. If you take time to read his emails you'll learn that he's also a husband and father of two daughters. He's all around nice and sympathetic character. And in Chinese campaign he's just one of nameless goons who tries to stop your party and who you just kill in order to advance. This is very sad and powerful moment.
