Aside that despite having played WC3 for a full year and a half, I had never played a single round of DotA. THAT made me feel embarassed when my friends found out.
Now, This is certainly nothing to be ashamed of, on the contrary, the very fact that at least some people can enjoy War3 without entering that damned bog of a map was the final weight that motivated my joining this forum as of now!

My first time playing Team Fortress 2. I messed up on so many levels, as almost every single class.

Soldier: Blew myself up, desperately trying to learn the rocket jump.
Scout: Ran head-first into a fully upgraded turret, trying to hit it with a bat.
Demoman: Failed to score a single kill. In 20 minutes of play.
Heavy: Spent 15 minutes pressing the taunt button just to hear him talk to his gun.
Medic: Healed a heavy to full. Who turned out to be a spy. Git.
Spy: Forgot to use any kind of disguise or cloaking whilst walking past the whole enemy team.
Pyro: Jumped an unsuspecting Soldier, then pressed taunt instead of fire. Whoops.

Okay, I have a fair few...one severely embarassing, but they don't really count to me. And another two I'm fairly sure everyone will take a look at and think...yeah...so? But that aside, here it goes.

Resident Evil 1: I think I was what, age 6? 7? My dad was playing, and had entered these wierd underground areas in the mansion. Man...the music that was playing (still creeps me out today) because it was some kind of long drawn out deep note which cut short, then repeated itself. I practically buried myself in the sofa, covering my ears and roaring my eyes out because I couldn't cut it.

Resident Evil 2: Playing as any of them really, during the second scenario. Mr. X as he was so named, such a scary bastard in that coat...look back at him today and it's laughable, but..how he'd just punch through a wall and kill me, or the worst (causing me to stop playing for a month because I could never be ready for it) was when you fetch a key for a train and turn the corner, only for a note of dramatic music to play, at which you are then blocked by the hulking form of Mr. X and a waffle sized fist smashing into your face.

Resident Evil 3: Only one part, during the police station when Nemesis jumps through the window after you've got the magnum and..lockpick? And launches that rocket at you. Scary.

Now, I can list of all my experiances with the Resident Evil series, but frankly, what I'd list of is common stuff that is put in to do that to a person anyway. But moving swiftly on.

Call of Cthulu: Dark corners of the Earth.

I say this now, and I'll say it again, with more venom if I have to. That game, FUCKS YOU UP. Not just your regular attempt at mindfuckery, it really does totally mess your mind up. This has moved on a fair bit from my under-10-years gaming experiance, but it really made me suddenly feel like a stranded 8 year old again. Dark room, friend asleep, I've drank red bull, and now I'm as awake as ever dripping with sweat. See, with my games I tend to explore everywhere, and peeking into a window only for it to zoom into someones face into pieces hung up on a wall, or looking out another window only to see some lizard like thing jump past, or my personal favourite, looking into a room (through another window, amazingly) and seeing a man dragging a corpse through a door, which then slams shut. Call of Cthulu is totally not to be taken lightly. I'm never playing it again, because from start to finish it is nothing but total a fear fest.

Oblivion: Brown bears. The face they pull when they are midstrike is quite intimidating, and during a first person melee brawl it really demoralizes me. So yeah, good bye. Whenever I meet a bear on Oblivion, I run. Not because they are built like a brick shit house, but because they scare me to death.

And my number one all time hatred favourite whatever: Halo 1, 343 Guilty Spark.

I mean, I played this level, at around age 11, 12 perhaps? The atmosphere was enough to kill me, the game was on Easy (yeah...don't even say it) and I'd just seen the video of Pvt. Mendoza. Flood things, which scared me to death. I got so frightened when the floor arrived, also known as Resident Halo, my Xbox was off faster than you can say 'Whats that smell?'

Couple days later I steeled myself, retried it, and fought, sweat renchingly through them, only to get to the elevator and to watch it come down, in pieces and ablaze. Almost to my wits end, I thought fuck this, and turned it off. 5 months later my cousin, 16 at the time, now 21 I think, comes down for a visit. I make him do the level for me, and the level after that, due to the flood being present. Then, we tackled it in Co-op. I got over my flood fear, but it's still a grim reminder of how much I shat myself back then.

And, if you've been kind enough to read all this, thank you. These are my most embarrasing video moments to look back upon.

I had experience with this game too. When running in the Hotel from the fishmen, I panicked like it were real. Seriously, and then I stumbled into the room with the screaming guy and I almost feel my balls squeeze.

And those damn armless men in SH2. Coming out of a car screeching was the most unexpected thing I got from that game. And finding pyramid head for the first time.

Being trounced at Guitar Hero II in full view of my wife by some barely-coordinated bum was pretty much the nadir of my gaming life. Look, I was used to Easy, and I still sucked at Medium, okay?
I'm sure all you Guitar Heroes have been at that awkward stage, where your pinky is still developing. Well- I'm not past it yet. It's like Guitar Hero puberty or something.

was going to mention one that my friend did on AvP at the beginning playing as the predator but it occurred to me that no matter how much i deny it you'll all think it was me so i won't make the mistake ;)

but he knows who he is, how can someone lack the simple coordination to jump a small gap 7 TIMES???

i tried not to absolutely crack up laughing but couldn't help it, he wouldn't even let me do it for him even though it was lunchtime & we only had 15 minutes left :)
--------------------------------
for 4 days now i've been too pussy to jump down with the antlions again on the buggy stage HL2

i know gamesreal life and that no harm will come to me but i'm still hesitant :(

maybe i should sit further away from the screen :)

anything facehugger is also not good for me (metroids, headcrabs), last level of unreal 2 even :(

time to get some value for money with peggle :(

Holy shit! me too. Every time that one of those things makes that little hissing rattle, I pull my magnum and start menacing the corners.

the part in bioshock when you first get the shotgun and the splicers start coming out of the darkness at you,... yea, I hid in a corner (In the game)

also, spent more ammo in FEAR shooting at my shadows than enemies (my friend actually sat and counted magazines)

Elder Scrolls: Oblivion...The "Hey, there's something coming to attack you!" music starts up, and I draw my claymore, then I start spinning, looking, looking everywhere... The music keeps going...It's getting louder, louder, LouDer, LOUDER...
...
...
And then it stops.

And then a daedric soldier comes out of nowhere and takes a slice out of me. I jumped so hard my laptop flew into the air, only to come crashing back down onto me, multiplying my terror even further...

Ah Oblivion. Recently I decided to have another crack, and proceeded to download Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul and MMM. So I'm playing along, genuinely enjoying it again after beating it so many times, when I come upon an Ayelied ruin. These places unnerve me enough, just the thought of running through something owned by a long dead empire, with the eerie lighting and whatnot, gives me the heeby jeebies. (I am actually glad to see a ghost/skeleton/vampire, allows me to focus on wacking something on the head until dead instead of freaking out). However, upon entering one of these ruins after installing OOO or MMM (I don't know which one added it), the place SCREAMED at me. A resounding "FUCK! SHIT!" later, I was standing back outside said ruin, feeling about 3 inches tall.

*spoiler*

Oh and in FEAR Extraction Point, the part where you are sliding down the ladder and all of a sudden there is a vent in front of you with mama Alma lunging forward. I took a flying leap off the ladder to my death. You think I would have learned from the original FEAR to never trust a ladder.

Whenever I get mauled in Halo by a team of Grunts. Seriously, I'm good at that game. But those little demonic Smurfs never fail to kill me at least once per checkpoint.

I've got plenty of "being scared" moments, but this thread is more for "why the fuck did I just do that?" moments.

emasculating

1. (transitive) To deprive of virile or procreative power; to castrate; to geld.
2. (transitive) To deprive of masculine vigor or spirit; to weaken; to render effeminate; to vitiate by unmanly softness.
---------------------------
i'd say being scared counts

'unmanly softness' rofl

This isn't about me but It was so funny when my brother (hes 18) was playing hl 2 (and its episodes). Firstly he couldn't finish the game because of the level Ravenholm and everytime something unexpected happened he screamed like a girl. Alot of the time he hid behind the couch and made me do the zombie parts and especially any water parts.

Personally, im ashamed of cheating in games to win them.

Also halo scared the shit out of me, probably the most scared i've been which is pretty weird. But when you first meet the flood I spent about 600 rounds on 8 of those little guys. Then I promply turned the computer off and had nightmares that night.

Umm, for me it was probably when my room-mates told me they always knew I was playing RE4 due to the swear words that gradually rose in both pitch and volume throughout. In all fairness though, I was holding off a chainsaw guy with a chainsaw and ran out of bullets suddenly...

Oh...and walking around the house during the first level of Eternal Darkness, before you find any weapons. Makes it even creepier!
