I posted earlier but just remembered a specific anime that completely ticked me off.

Ichiban Ushiro no Daimao (Demon King Diamao in english I think)

This entire show was my own personal "what I hate about anime" but what kept me watching for almost ten episodes (may have been more) is that the characters, for the most part, are all likable. They all have redeeming values and help further the plot. The main character is probably one of the best I have seen.

An extremely good aligned person raised in a monastery goes off to magic college. During a sorting hat like process that tells the students their future professions he is informed that he is to become the Demon Lord, a near satanic figure who is meant to breed war and destruction. Possibly one of the best characters I have ever seen just by that description. He's tried his whole life to be the best person he could and now is told that he is destined to be one of the worst people in the world. The other students hate him save for the girls that are attracted to him.
Because of course every anime needs a love interest. Ichiban, being a harem anime, has quite a few of them.

In just under ten episodes the main character picks up a sword wielding honor bound girl who swears loyalty to him to make up for attacking him, a younger red head with a mysterious past who has the talent of turning invisible, a female robot from the government meant to watch his every movement due to him being the Demon lord, and the most popular girl in school who has secret motives dealing with him. By the time I stopped watching some sort of assassin like girl had joined in too.

He also picks up a scrappy young sidekick who seems destined to be a hero that would oppose the Demon Lord and a giant dragon who obeys him because he is the Demon Lord.

Ok, this anime COULD have been completely off the wall awesome; however the problem is that in order of importance the focus is on
Plot
harem/comedy
normal comedy
Action

The bad: "excuse me you seem to have put too much of your 12 year old wet dream in my plot"

Ok while there is no actual sex in what I had seen but the anime is inches from being hentai (spelling? its late and i don't feel like looking it up). I really wouldn't be surprised if it was adapted from a Hentai Manga (again, don't feel like looking it up)

The sword girls clothes get torn to shreds every time she gets in a fight
The young redhead needs to shed her clothes every time she turns invisible
The robots 'off switch' is a pull cord under her skirt and she desperately tries to 'endear; herself to the main character,
The Popular girls motives are to A) Get the main character to love her through whatever means possible B) be the main characters 'Dark mage' and rule the world by his side and C) an actual plot revolving around her brother.

Not to mention every other sexual gag that they go out of their way to exploit.

Its like a tug of war with Plot and action on one side and Harem/comedy on the other. Plot really can hold its own for the first few episodes and get you through the forced and rather painful innuendoes but after a while plot gets tired and can no longer pull you through the god awful sexual references, panty shots, and octagonal pop ups with the words "dont look" on them blocking any 'naughty material' (probably the only things keeping this from being hentai).

Now from what the Opening showed i probably quit before the actual plotline really took off. but I was barely dragging myself through the obligatory harem beach episode.

........ um, wow, i didn't mean to do a review but here we are, may as well go all the way. The Verdict: Ichiban Ushiro no Daimao a 4/10 only because the plot actually seemed to be going somewhere.

Get the fuck out. Now.

First off, I actually like anime, at least most of the ones that I've watched. This is just stuff that I don't get or that pisses me off. I'll try to cite examples where I think of any.

-Androgynous characters(Naruto)
-Increasingly bizarre transformations that make previous forms completely obsolete.(DBZ,Bleach)
-Characters attaining godlike powers, yet still find bad guys that are stronger.(DBZ,Bleach)
-Harem anime where no one fucks.(too many to list)
-Anime where a girl falls in love with a guy that treats her like crap, or is a dick, or both.(Bleach,Naruto)
-Anime where a girl falls in love with a guy she's never said two words to.(Naruto)
-Guys that don't want to fuck the ridiculously hot chicks that constantly surround them.(you know the ones)
-Bad guys that don't die.
-Really bad guys that become good guys.
-Filler(a hell worthy trespass)
-Characters not having the balls to tell someone that they love them.(Seems like every single fucking one)
-Yelling makes you stronger(no it doesn't-DBZ,Naruto,Bleach)
-Friendship(next one to make a friendship speech gets shanked)
-God-like characters that are terrified of their significant others.(DBZ)
-Beach and hot spring episodes(I shouldn't have to list these should I?)
-Destiny
-Underage girls and characters that look like underage girls(Bleach)
-Pairings that don't make any fucking sense(DBZ)
-Collection quests(Dragon Ball)
-I'm dead, now I'm back, now I'm dead again, but I'm really not.(Bleach,DBZ)
-Terrible openings(One Piece)
-Japanese pop music(I hate it like Hitler hated gypsies)
-Teases(Bleach)
-Rapists(DBZ,Bleach,others)
-Pedophiles(no, just no)
-Children doing shit that adults with combat training should do(Gundam)
-Tournaments(Yu-Yu-Hakusho,DBZ)
-Characters that are super powerful, but hate to fight
-Tears
-Not killing irredeemable bad guys
-Plot armor
-Characters with vast untapped amounts of power that only old guys and training can unlock(DBZ,Bleach, others)
-Characters that are angry and anti-social helping people.(Bleach)
-Angst(Emos ruin everything)
-Orphans(keep a hold on your fucking parents

There's more, but I can't think of it right now; I can only let so much hate flow out at one time.

Edit: Wait, I've got another one! Series that don't tell you where or when their shit is happening.(DBZ,Yu-Gi-Oh,others I can't remember)

Umm, well, truth be told I like the Gundam series, specifically Gundam Wing, and Gundam 00. But there is one thing that, has literally festered overtime into "pissing me off", its how exactly do they control the damn things? Actually, this bothers me for almost all big mecha anime. The only one Ive seen that made a bit of sense was G Gundam (what it was called in the US, dont know if the same in Japan), where you basically had a 1:1 control through the ultimate Kinect (lol).

The rich *****. A girl who is not simply rich, but is a total asshole, has a shrill, arrogant voice, and has henchmen (or, more often, henchbitches) as well.

How a character can lose enough blood to fill a stadium and yet still be able to stand, walk, run, fight and win. Then they heal over the course of 20 minutes.

My personal pet peave is all the series that are trying to frankenstien the success of Yu Gi Oh and Pokemon (both very stupid, terrible shows) for making some cheap "monster/cards/balls FIGHT TO THE DEATH" for advertisement for a card game kind of anime.

That, and the fact that all anime animation (I.E. amount of movement, frames in the episode, and characters fluidity) is terrible with the sole ecception to the rule being the freaking KIRBY anime.

It took a FREAKING PINK VACCUUM to get more then 12 frames of animation and not have blabber mouths.

- Annoying fanservice. Unlike most people, I will be the first to admit that a bit of fanservice doesn't necessarilly hurt a show. But when it is done frequently and/or in a "in your face" manner, it starts to get annoying even when you are the intended audience....especially when you are the intended audience. I can't recall her name, but there is a female character in Bleach who's breasts are so enormous that you literally have trouble paying attention to the show.
Rangiku Matsumoto
No, I mean another character. The one with the bandana on her head, who keeps smoking something and provides a rocket for Ichigo and his friends so they can get into Soul Society.
Yeah, there's like seven or eight characters like that in that show.

...Or after putting a single band-aid over it (bruises included) to make it all better.

Pointless fanservice. Case in point is High School of the Dead. Stopped watching halfway through, couldn't stand 75% of the show just being about showing some very jiggly, oversived, cartoon T'n'A.
I think the fanservice does serve a point... an important plot point. The series doesn't take place on the normal planet earth. It takes place in a world where the physics are extremely broken. One bullet can knockdown a wave of zombies and the slightest bit of movement will make the breasts of any woman jiggly violently and uncontrollably for what seems like hours...

... yeah... I'm just messing with you. That show really is a piece of shit. lol
I'm impressed you managed to hold off bursting out with laughter for that long. I'm still giggling! =p

Kind of unrelated, but does anyone know the name of that anime series that was on Saturday or Sunday mornings that had something to do with having ghost guardians? I think it was on WB or some antennae channel.

Man loves woman, woman doesn't notice.

or
Woman loves man, man doesn't notice.

That's the most infuriating thing especially since it feels like 90% of the time they forget they had a couple "matched" for each other and never finish it up.

If there is only ONE thing I have to complain about in anime cliches, it's that EVERYBODY FLIES! Why do they find it necessary for characters to fly, hover, levitate, etc.!? Even when they have no super powers of any kind, at one point, they will be suspended in air for an unrealistic amount of time for "dramatic" effect... >x(

Personally I've got no problem with the BIG BOOBS issue (It gives me a reason to watch); I just hate it when they "self censor" everything.

I don't mean when the studio makes a TV version then a M-rated DVD version.

I mean like Eiken Club... All those huge mamms and not an exposed nipple in sight!
Hear, Hear
Countless oppurtunities no true nudity. What a shame.

I don't have any...

I actually sort of like the over the top reactions, if they're well done.

I'll just use this space to complain that Death Note went downhill halfway through.

Edit: Oh wait. The main character that knows nothing about girls and messes up his relationship by being too agressive and such. Examples: Suzuka and what little I have seen of School days.
oh that show goes in a downward spiral so fast and there are so many faceplam moment that you begin to wonder "why is every girl in this show an idiot"
Suzuka or School days, that is?

I haven't seen the anime of Suzuka, and I've only seen the two first episodes of School days, so please don't spoil anything.

I still think Suzuka was a rather good manga though.

Hm...I can't think of one that I dislike.

I like the reactions, the art style, some of the many cliches are what I find charming and enjoyable about Anime.

I suppose, what I do hate about Anime, are the extremist fans. You know, the ones that have a Haruhi pillow-cover. :\ *Shudder* Those people are creepy.

Inner monologues that happen in real time. Pause between fight and 5 minutes of 1 char going "Omg he is so strong, but I got to protect my friends" while the villian just stands there. Just once I want to see a pause and they zoom in on the characters face, "He's much stronger than I thou.." enemy blows his head off.

There is once in balck lagoon when a enemy goes "my guns is awesomit it is made of gold and is super nazi and shit" and then he gets shot mid sentence.

Ironic considering your avatar is from Gurren Laggen.
THAT'S NOT HOW MINDMILLS WORK! I mean, that's not what irony means. It means using the words with different meaning than literal.

Also, Gurren Lagann (..spelling, man) goes over the top the right way.
Gurren Lagann is one of the best things to come out of Japan in recent years. Behind the over-the-top action (and fanservice) is actual meaning, something most anime lack. I love TTGL:) Similar with Cowboy Bebop.
Here here. I actually agree with both of your statements. Gurren Lagann is a favorite show of mine. The constant upping of scale, ridiculously heroic deaths, and surprising depth will keep it in my mind for a quite a while.
