Your most hated game adverts

A lot of the recent threads (like "You're most hated enemy in a game) got me thinking of other game elements that sometimes drive me nuts, but I can't help think that something that really gets me going are adverts.

For me it's the adverts which don't show gameplay. Any adverts for just about any Harry Potter game (could just be here in briton) does this for me and it annoys me. It shows various CGI images of the main characters running through hogwarts and casting spells with the little "not actual gameplay" caption at the bottom. I would peg them as the worst offender for this.

So what are your most hated game adverts?

Yeah ones without Gameplay normally tend to be bad. If they show of the storey or something then it can but otherwise there just annoying, especially when they use real actors, Halo Reach was the only Halo game I really liked, but the adverts for it were awful. Guy runs forward, gets shot, another one picks the thing up and flies away.

Right now I find the 3DS adverts annoying mainly because it just shows people's reaction to the 3d effects but cannot actually show 3d effects on screen.

'One Direction' from X-Factor advertising Pokemon.

I don't feel ashamed playing Pokemon considering I'm 18 and have a life, but when these little twats from X-Factor are seen on TV publicizing it, it makes me lose faith in Nintendo.

Fuck you Nintendo, fuck you in the ass. Stop trying to make Pokemon look like a fun family game that any old tasteless little cock can play. It's for people who actually enjoy playing Pokemon, not people who don't ever play games, watch X-Factor and occasionally listen to pop now and then.

Pokemon used to be cool, now it's gay!

I can't really think of what kind of game adverts annoy me, but the L.A. Noire adverts are starting to annoy me since they pop up on every other video I watch on the internet.

Well Dead Space 2 goes without saying.

One thing that really gets me is "Representative of in game footage". What does that mean? This is not a cutscene from in game but it kind of looks like one so we're going to show it to you anyway.

The trailer for DAO was a REALLY bad example for not showing gameplay. There the characters are doing all sorts of moves including a mega-jump onto a cliff... then the actual gameplay? click fireball, click target. LAME!

Got to mention Dead Space of course. Way to set the attitude to gaming back 10 years guys!

The "Your Mom hates Dead Space 2" campaign has to be the worst idea in recent memory.

I also agree that the 3DS ads are terrible, but that machine is basically impossible to advertise well. You can't actually show the games in 3D, so what else can they do other than having actors going "oh wow, this looks great!" etc.

Nintendo does also have terrible "celeb" endorsement, the above example with One Direction is only the latest fail.

Hmm, someone already mentioned terrible use of music, that's nearly universal in any game ad that doesn't use in-game music.

Brink and LA Noire at the moment, i expect it'll change once another big release rolls around and starts interupting my videos.

Worst advert was easily the 'Your Mom' advert from EA.
I still think it was pretty funny though how Game Station here in the UK advertised CoD: Black Ops though. "Cheaper than your girlfriend" was so tasteless I couldn't help but find it funny.

Also those DS ads directed at the 'new audience'. You know, with the 40-something year old housewife saying how she got bored of brain age and Wii Fit and now she's grinding her way through Dragon Quest IX?

I've recentley seen Black Ops adverts, not even advertising the new map pack. Just Black Ops.

I mean, this game came out before Christmas for christ's sake why even advertise it? Are there really people out there who don't know what Call of Duty is?

I was going to take advantage of the Dead Space 2 sale, but then I remembered their ads. No$4U.

Anyway, while it's an increasing trend I can't fight, I hate how fewer and fewer trailers show gameplay. After the initial gel trailers, Valve failed to put out a single other gameplay trailer for Portal 2, which kinda turned me off towards buying it...
