Where do I start? First I think is Fallout 3. I heard so much good stuff about the game, in fact, I've hardly heard any negative things about it. But after a few hours I stopped playing it because it was just really boring.
Next is Mass Effect 1 and 2. Again like with Fallout 3, I've heard lots of positive things about it, especially about the story and the charakters but it's exactly these two things, that I think are hardly above average. The same goes for Dragon Age.
The Call of Duty games are really overrated too, in my opinion. COD4 was quite good but the all the hype for the following games was undeserving.
I think there are some other games but I don't remember them right now.

Final Fantasy X. The game came out at the start of the decade, but fuck it, it was horrible. Now when everyone thinks of Final Fantasy it's either X or VII. They don't deserve that.
I know you haven't been here long but you will start to notice around here that everyone likes every FF but VII and likes to comment on their FF being better than it even though they already stated they preferred another FF which kinda makes the comment they usually make redundant.

Well I want to say FFX-2 but it was not overrated and widely hated so I can't say that. Although it did have the best version of ATB. Halo 3 for me was the most overrated. It really let down the rest of the games in the series.
Fuck. I like Final Fantasy games, but the fandom. Jesus Christ, the fandom. Is it possible not to worship one entry, without supremely loathing another? And here I thought I could escape the madness.

I may be missing something here, but when was MAG ever considered to be a good game?
It was always made out to be the worlds greatest shooter game, with 128 multiplayer, and all these customization options.

And even after it came out, it got dozens of "Amazing" reviews, talking about how it rivaled halo and everything.
I never saw any good reviews. Ever (and I liked the game, but understand why anyone would hate it).

Red Dead Redemption. Atmosphere and characters were good...yeah, but the story was a rollercoaster of mediocrity right up until the end, which was actually good. A story to 'rival the greats of film and literature'? Are you fucking kidding me? The missions were the Rockstar usual of painful linearity peppered with auto-aim and fiddly cover-taking, and all the activities of the sandbox were either boring mini-games or had absolutely no bearing in the wider world. Each side-show in a sandbox game should at least feel cohesive, and none of them in Red Dead were.

I will try to mention only the games that I thought were really overrated because the list would be too long otherwise :

-F.E.A.R. : Combat Evolved : Ok, the gunplay and the AI were great, and it was quite scary at times. But, I don't think it made up for the repetitive combat, the repetitive levels and the idiotic story. So yes, it was a good FPS, even a landmark game in two areas, but overall, not the great game that some people said it was.

-Gears of War : It's a decent third person shooter, it didn't look like any other game at the time but... I don't think it's as good as some gaming sites and reviewers describe it to be. Granted, the game does a lot of things right, but it lacks variety. The level design is quite repetitive and even too simple at times, the story is simplistic and 8 hours of tactical shooting is tiresome. I didn't get to play Gears of War 2, but it seems to be that the second installment is the good game while the first was just a first try that didn't deserve that much praise.

-Bioshock 2 : Bioshock was great because it was pretty much the dream of Ayn Rand come to life. And that dream was a nightmare. It was great because it showed a new, strange and original universe that was unlike anything we'd ever seen in a video game. Bioshock 2 was more Bioshock, without the good writing. For me, it was pretty much an expansion pack in disguise. And Bioshock wasn't a game that would translate well into expansion packs, because it was not its gameplay that made it good. Plus, by trying to show the opposite of Bioshock, it killed its spirit. I found Bioshock great, and I thought it was a daring game because it took sides, it said something. The game had a point which was that objectivism was false, that its practical application would lead to disaster. By trying to make the opposite point, and with the developers saying "No, it's not that this ideology was bad. The point of the Bioshock franchise is that all ideology, in excess, is bad", it killed the spirit of the first Bioshock (and showed the stupidity of the writers). Plus, it was overall a pretty bland and uninspired game (for anyone who had played the first Bioshock), with no memorable moments and unintersting characters.

-Doom III : It's repetitive, the gunplay isn't that great, it's repetitive, it's repetitive, it's repetitive and I get the impression of running around in circles as I advance through the game. The engine and its lighting system was great but the game itself wasn't really fun. The backstory about the technology and the lab was interesting though.

1up and PSM gave it reviews that made it sound like a gift from god.
It wasnt bad, but it wasnt half as good as they made it out to be.

lol, you're like the only one who doesn't like Fallout 3. Yes I have seen that image of yours but I don't get what makes the game so bad. I found it really fun and great, sure it has some problems but show me a game that doesn't have a single flaw. I guess the faces in fallout 3 are messed up, but the dialog between characters was good and the open world filled with possibilities to construct your own story was really well done.
Thankfully, most of my friends dislike the game as well, and I'm fairly sure of that nearly everyone at NMA does as well, though surprisingly I'm not a member of NMA.

Anywho, the flaws does make it a worse game. It makes it harder to enjoy walking along the most boring setting for a free roam game to ever have been made. The reason why it worked so well in the previous Fallout games was that you didn't have to walk along the whole world in real time, as in go from town to town as you walk inside of towns. Black Isle were most likely aware of that the setting wasn't all that ideal for free roaming.

You GUESS the faces were messed up? Come on man, have you never played videogames before? Mario looks more realistic than people in Bethesda games using the Gamebryo engine do. No, the open world setting wasn't well done, that's the whole thing. It's so fucking dull, you walk, you walk, you walk until you finally find something to do. It's the same boring "go down that cave" or "go collect that item" or "go talk to that person" quests every single time none the less. The writing isn't good, it's downright terrible.

So, does that do it for you on why I dislike Fallout 3?
I've got no idea what NMA is for a start, but it seems like a bunch of people who hate games or are elitist over certain games but I'm not sure. Also just to say, practically everything you said was an opinion so don't claim that the writing is downright terrible and things like that. The environment wasn't really that boring in my opinion, it was meant to show how depressing and sad everything is after a nuclear holocaust. There isn't much I can say now because if you really have such a problem with a game that was the game of the year then I just feel sorry for you, because most people really enjoy the game and can look past the flaws and enjoy the brilliant theme, setting, characters and the rest of the game. It seems like you are going out of your way to find the problems with this game and to not enjoy it, it also seems like you went into the game with the wrong ideas about it and certain expectations that didn't come true due to the last two games in the franchise.

It's not that dull, it is a fight for survival. I could basically use many of your arguments for many games an example is mmorpgs: "It's so fucking dull, you walk, you walk, you walk until you finally find something to do. It's the same boring "go down that cave" or "go collect that item" or "go talk to that person" quests every single time none the less. The writing isn't good, it's downright terrible." If you can see it seems like you are speaking bad about the features of Fallout 3, but so many games have those similar features your talking about, but I bet you wouldn't hate those games though.

Well, Portal and Super Meat Boy are the first games that come to mind, but the difference between the two is that Portal was actually fun.

Portal wasn't bad, but it annoys me to no end when people never shut up about how perfect Portal was. You can only have so much material when your puzzles consist of making portals. GlaDOS was a pretty unimpressive character(an evil robot? UNHEARD OF) and it really didn't offer anything other than mild puzzle fun.

Super Meat Boy was just bad. I thought I'd like it since I enjoyed getting pummeled by Demon's Souls, but Demon's Souls difficulty was actually enjoyable to me, because there was no single way for you to get through a dungeon. Super Meat Boy focused too much on trial and error that it just ended up pissing me off more than anything. Thank god I didn't waste my money on that mess.

Minecraft gets an honorable mention, because it failed to actually be good on what it focused on; a sandbox game. It was too limiting for me to actually enjoy it.

Well, I played fallout 3 (Which I got this christmas) until the point where dad, who I never learned the real name of, died. I wandered around and did a few more quests and then I decided to not play it anymore.

The character set-up seemed less like a choice and more like a question with one correct answer. Intelligence is the only one of the SPECIAL stats worth throwing points into. I put most points into stealth and lock picking and found myself fighting everything everywhere and dying every 5 minutes. After throwing some points into combat, I learned that fallout 3 is a full experience made of smaller experiences and that you get to choose which experience you get to put points into. It makes no sense to put points into anything but the largest part of the game, the combat.

The combat itself seemed like it was all I did in the game and in that respect, it's not very enthralling, considering you can freeze time and become invincible for a while, (VATS) something the mechanics of which I found to be entirely broken. After that you just keep backing up and manually hitting the fire button until your Action Points regenerate. Perform as repetitively as necessary.

Stealing was fun, for a little while anyway. Though getting caught and a few other things made me wonder why no developer has made the quick-save function console compatible, for that would be awesome. Stealing also made me wonder why it was so bloody hard to have an evil karma rating, short of enslaving someone. And besides, I never could find out how to get the mezzmatron thing to work.

I also felt like I was forced to do a lot of quests, as there's nothing else to do. For example, I tried getting into paradise falls, first through bribery, which failed because I didn't have the caps, then the quest to enslave multiple people, though I didn't want to enslave any one. I came back much later with the money and found that by accepting the quest, I lost the ability to bribe my way in, so I was locked out of paradise falls, for what I assume is the rest of the game.

Basically, I felt that I didn't have "The Power Of Choice" that's a blurb on the back of the box, but instead I was playing through very restrictive path with few dull side quests, which are mostly interchangeable, go here and kill stuff, jobs, which I have to do because there's nothing else to do in-game and which also the best way to gain XP.

PORTAL!!!

For fuck's sake! How did a three hour game with no difficulty, one interesting charecter, a shell of a person as a protagonist, and one new idea get so fucking popular?!?

Yeah it was funny, but that doesn't mean jack shit, Fable 2 has more humor than Portal and Fable 2 was at best mediocre.

Black Ops.

Its graphics suck, its multiplayer is basically MW2's multiplayer + a few small features + LAGGG, and the campaign is just meh.

Treyarch just ripped all the good ideas out of MW2, and added a bunch of crap along with it to make a worse game.
