after searching a while back for some new music, I came across a few things that kind of annoy me

I'm not just talking about specific genres or artists you don't like (although thats certainly part of it)

just things that seem to regurly come up and piss you off

1. when you have an electronic track that actually sounds pretty good..it starts out nice, but then BAM it gets completly ruined by "lyrics"...some idiotic phrase repeated in the most annoying abnoxious way (you know what I'm talking about where the voice is all distorted into sounding deep..why do they do that? it doesnt sound good, it sounds fucking stupid)

(to be fair this isnt the worst exmaple..and I actually don't mind Bassnectar)

2. also electronic related, when I'm listening to a track..all is well but then the beat/temp shifts too...well I'm not sure what the technical term is (the type found in drum and bass genre) granted this one is entirly subjective, for some reason that combination does nothing for me..and kinda puts me off

3. ANY song with a guy and just his guitar (probably singing about a girl) blaarrgh..

4. alot of shallow songs about love..granted 90% of sings out there are about relationships but the same tired teenge style crap certainly wears thin

Bad trigger samples on drums.
I mean I like this song actually but damn that bass is far too clicky.

The only thing that really bugs me is rhyming a word with itself. Except when it's a whole line repeated, since that's not really rhyming as much as just repeating.

I hate it whenever a song (primarily metal) starts out with a promising verse, but throws any chance at quality music down the crapper with a banal, boring, flow breaking, shallow, uninteresting, uninspired chorus.

Creepy screamo/growling instead of singing. I will never understand why people would listen to something they can't understand and sounds silly.

It adds power and intensity. Well, in my opinion. That's why I like it.

OT: uninspired, generic, and just plain terrible lyrics. Even if the music is fantastic the song can be totally ruined for me because of how bad the lyrics are.

Apparently, my peeve is people who have a good voice...

Not really. But [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8gdqWTgi9s] I [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkBacp4I8qw] do [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXkZI7WZWOo] tend [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFHlK8ZXgvE] to [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hk3mAX5xdxo] like [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFx5tP8JdPI&list=UUIWrFV81IczsKZHR8VKQG9w&index=10&feature=plcp] singers [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMyCa35_mOg] with [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4_dqZA4v00] bad [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zpDwfXtFfI] (or really rough [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URp-Dbhr7EU]) voices [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38HomZC_Dds]. Maybe not actually bad...but...flawed in some noticeable way. It's endearing to me. Not that I don't listen to any people who can really sing, but I just like those rough qualities to a person's voice.

One thing that will make me shiver (like, actually god damn shiver) is when singers do that thing where they draw out one syllable of a word and warble it or...whatever. I don't know what you call it, so I'll have to find an example...

That's a pretty mild example of it. Usually they'll start way up high and work their way down, but will go back up for brief moments again. People seem to do it a lot when they sing the National Anthem at sporting events in the US. I hate it. It makes me cringe and shake my head as if a piano fell on my foot.

Another thing I don't like is when sounds sound to clean. It's a sort of overproduction that just sucks the life out of the music, making it sound too sterile. Like voices, I like music with a little roughness or dirtiness. It grounds it, and makes it sound like an actual human creation rather than the product of a machine.

Whenever it sounds like there's an annoying sound stuck in the middle of an otherwise great song. I swear that every time I listen to the sped up version of The Offspring's "You're Gonna Go Far Kid"" (Which I think sounds better than the original) there is a farting noise in the middle. There's another song which always sounds like my dad calling my name. It really bugs me.

there's a different between inability to sing and a rough voice (the guy from Disturbed has awesome range but also a rough voice)

but yeah "sterile" certainly makes me think of today's pop music

I concur with this TO A DEGREE, im not going to outlaw all screaming, because when used as a musical tool to add strength/meaning to certain points in a song thats fine. Its the constant stuff i don't understand,
I'm with you on this on. I can handle growls and screams perfectly fine. But I simply don't get why they would do it constantly. Most growlers (at least in the local scene) are hardly qualified to be diverse with their vocals and it just makes metal bland most of the time ;S

I guess for the rest I don't really have any pet peeves. I'm also into pop so... yeah.

So much this it's hard to explain to my friends why I like singers with actual personality...<.<

That's the problem... when it is used as a "musical tool" is when it's forced and overbearing... but the only time I can enjoy it or at least put up with it when it's so obviously not a part of the musical style and rather, in the cases I've heard it, an expression of emotion or passion...<.<

Though that is simple screaming, screamo and growling is just annoying as hell...

OT: songs about partying... I don't think I have to describe myself... unless you're taking the piss out of it like the Electric Six it's just so damned terrible... I prefer there to be some form of emotional or artistic integrity in my music thank you very much...ಠ_ರೃ

I don't like screamo, but I do love melodic growling (Kurt Cobain). I don't really care if I can't hear the lyrics just by listening to them, as long as I could look up what they are.

For me it's when a singer/band uses any form of studio correction. I don't mind layering the tracks with more recordings, but I really dislike computer "correcting" of any of the sounds, whether that be by auto-tune on the voice or pitch correction on any instrument.

I agree about the production.
I used to never really be able to grasp why anyone would want to listen to something that sounds distant, murky or anything that isn't crystal clear.

Slowly over time I came to understand and appreciate how the production of an album is just as much a part of the experience as the rest of the package.

Having an album with really hazy/distant production is sort of like this painting.

You can still see everything in it, but the choice of representation affects how you interact with it.

See how it shows you a wheat field but it's still fairly subjective, leaving it open to ones interpretation as to how they experience it?

It's kind of like that far as I can describe.

When everything has a crystal clear sterile production, there is no interpretation.
It's just "Here is everything laid out for you".

Country - Rap...nuff said. heres and example perhaps you've heard it.

"DJ turn it dup dup dup dup dup dup dup dup dup dup"

holy fuck.....its like getting jabbed in the back of the eye with a screw driver. I was sorely tempted to run a convertable off the road the other day because the driver had this song CRANKED passing me on the highway. Thats not music that's a seizure.
