I sincerely care about this.

You may not see it, but every piece of "real" information that gets put online does absolutely nothing but tighten the grip that is already starting to strangle the life out of the internet.

I would go into examples but Ive wrote entirely too many posts on this subject that have been quoted and requoted, and would rather not go through it again today.

Please, for the good of the internet, dont do it.

I don't really care if I'm being honest haha, my name's Stef, and I live in Slough, West London.

Just as long as people don't know my address or anything, I really don't care about anonymous...ness...xD

I gotta say though, I agree with Drakmeire, I like keeping my internet life and my actual life separate.

Privacy on the internet doesn't concern me. I don't let people know my exact location unless I trust them. And, while I may not be hard to find, I only let friends of mine know any details beyond interests.

I try to keep myself as secret on the internet as I possibly can, but to quote from a show I saw recently, "we're just a bunch of ones and zeros."

I wouldn't care at all. I don't say shit on the internet which I won't back-up in person.'

Though with a quick google search my real name generates no ties to me and my online-nick only to The Escapist, a Steam game and a couple Youtube comments. I guess I'm better at "hiding" than intended.

I am "Yureina" online. This is not my real name, but it is the name that I have used for myself increasingly over the past 2 years online, be it here or in WoW. It is what I am known as here, and so doubles as a second name. I prefer to keep things this way because I feel as if my real life should not affect the online one. You cannot find any trace of me on the internet even if I said what my real name was (believe me, i've looked), and I would prefer to keep it that way.

There is some cross-over between the real and the online, but that's a right reserved for my closest friends. ^_^

Change "Yureina" with "Naheal", extend the time-frame to about 5-7 years, and include Phantasy Star and Warhammer Online with WoW then this works for me. Hell, some people (mostly from my D&D group. The name actually comes from one of my more [in]famous characters. I think I still have his sheet around here somewhere) know me as Naheal.

I like anonymity, but I'm not bothered about telling people my name age etc.

My name on the internet is usually my actual name. Or something with my name incorporated into it.

I don't post my name or facebook, though I have shown my picture in one of them threads one time. It's not a big issue, I just don't see it as particularly relevant. I like anonymity to an extent, I find it easier being more honest to strangers. Yes, it's a little silly, but again, you don't gain much by knowing my name so I don't mention it. I'd give my name to someone I know pretty well here, if they asked.

So far that's been about 3 times.

That really saddens me. What should anyone care about the colour of your eyes, what gender you are/used to be, whether you have horns or whatever? Its not who you are on the outside, but what you are underneath that defines you.

Prejudice like that disgusts me.
Yeah, that's the human race for you. Kind of sucks.

From what I've seen transexuals seem to get it worse than anyone; for being a smaller minority than most, they're easy to pick on, and people are generally pretty uneducated in general.

And there's the simple truth that when they can, the big step on the small.

It makes me pretty angry.

I like to be Anonymous, that way my personal life is unaffected and they can not hold a grudge or anything.

But being that it's my name only and it's Nam Woon Kim I couldn't really care less. I play Starcraft II by the way.

I'm very grateful for the clean(empty)slate that the internet provides you with. that way i can comment on a point in any number of different perspectives. if i see weird japanese shit, i can go "WTF japan?", if i see stupid americans being stupid, i can say "stupid americans are stupid", etc. and no one will know if i'm insulting my own race or gender or whatever. i can be ME, and say things that i normally wouldn't. it's liberating.

I don't mind telling the internet my name or city or even birthdate. But that's all I tell

Do you like to be anonymous on the internet? Do you think that it is a bad (or good) idea to have your name freely available on the internet (for the point of this discussion, ignore Facebook, I only want to talk about forums) to be viewed by random strangers?
I do take internet security kind of seriously. As a guy with a very, very, very unique name, I'm not exactly hard to find. By having anonymity I can be myself without much danger to me in RL. Not that I'm uncomfortable with the Escapist crowd, I just feel really concerned about the chances that some psycho will target me and try to hunt me down. Not very likely but still something I would rather avoid.

Since I moved to Vancouver I can tell you where I live (Port Coquitlam to be exact). In Saskatchewan all you would have had to do is ask casual questions around my hometown to find me.

Also I like being known as Redlin, the random Team Rocket guy. I love being a part of this community without the fear of real life repercussions.

[sub][sub]If I ever met any of my online friends in real life, I would hope they would honor my decision not to spread my real name around here.[/sub][/sub]

I am very keen on privacy online. The most I will reveal is my country and county of origin. I personally like to keep my online life and my real world activities separate.
