We all know that quite alot of games recently have collectables in some shape or form but what is all your opinions on them? Also say what games do collectable well and what don't.

I find that they are a good way to replay a game. However it gets a bit too much when theres too many thing to collect. I also think the recent lego games have had good ones since its only 10 collectables per level.

Collectables, By that I think you mean random things around the level which don't actually mean all that much?

I'll collect things on a game which are interesting, like cool weapons or just cool looking armour etc. I never really collect anything that doesn't at least make me look awesome, aside from random spoons and shit in the Elder scrolls game, I love collecting random crap in that.

Pretty pointless. I know some people love to get 100% completion, but if it's mindless collection of intel laptops I'm not interested at all. Arkham Asylum had a more interesting take on it though, with different types that yielded some kind of reward.

I always search every spot of the gaming map that is possible to occupy for collectibles, but I don't know why. It's not that I ever get 100% anyways. It's just this weird sensation of being afraid of missing something essential.

I will collect them if collecting a certain amount actually changes the game in some way, rather than giving me a 100% statistic, for exmple I collected all the orbs in Spryo 2 so I could

finally go on that seaside holiday we were going to go on at the beggining!

or in Call of Duty 4 where you unlocked cheat codes for finding intel.

Also, I like exploring. If I search well I will probably come across said collectibles anyway.

I generally dont see half of the colectables, normally they are to small and I miss them. I've never gone back through a game, just to get more shiny objects.

Sometime sthey are good though, if it just doesnt reward searching every single dank hole in the game looking down, then its a good collectable.

Kleptomania generally leads to constant collection of useless things. Add this to games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion, and you have a recipe for danger.
I love collectables, but if I fell like there's little to no bearing on them, it irritates me.
Intel in CoD 4, great. MW2, shit.
However, in Fallout 3 and Oblivion, I often end up getting all the weapons and their unique versions simply to have them, never to use them.

In game collectibles ive bothered going after were the flags in Asassins Creed, the feathers in Asassins Creed 2 and the bobbleheads in Fallout 3.

It was the scale of exploration that kept me going on these games

Same here.

I'm a perfectionist...I collect everything that is to be collected in games.

It depends whether the collectables actually do something worthy of the time it takes to get them all. Halo 3 was quite good for collectables as each skull lets you alter the game settings. But then on the other hand there are games like Gears of War where collecting all the Tags netted you nothing but lousy achivement points.

It depends if there's a purpose to the collectibles. Getting an achievement unlock for collecting everything doesn't appeal to me unless there's an in-game reward for doing so. Sometimes it feels like they're just there to boost up the play time - like feathers in ACII or the thermos in Alan Wake.

I don't have any video game collectibles but I just bought a 1:16 scale figure of Miku Hatsune and Vash the Stampede.

I was always a fan of the medals you earn in Ace Combat- but those pale in comparison to the paint schemes you got in 5 and 0.

They pretty much shot both of these concepts in 6.

I always enjoyed alternate costumes, too, which I guess the above paint schemes are an extension of.

Honestly, I like them when they have a point (like the pages in Alan Wake) but hate them when they're there just to be there (the thermoses in Alan Wake). Placing objects on a already created level is easy though and can boost game time, so they'll be around for about forever.

Yeah, some of the time collectables are fairly pointless, but in games like Ratchet and Clank, Assassin's Creed 2 and Uncharted the collectables all serve some purpose (unlocking new weapons, unloaking new armour and unlocking better weapons, respectively).

I like them most of the time, as long as there is a decent way to keep track of them, like Assassin's Creed II had. It fixed one of the bigger problems that Assassin's Creed had in that regard.
