I think Smith is absolutely right in The Martix. We are a virus for the nature, slowly (but increasingly faster) sucking the life from this planet, so that we have to move on. We suck.

Glass the entire world, lest Jersey Shore or any other reality TV show somehow makes it off the planet. Also, I'd give the dolphins a helping hand in evolution, hopefully making them a hard-working and useful galactic civilisation. Humanity isn't all that great.

That abit hard to say if the said "alien" had a similar histories to us or were better at the decision they made on their planet.
So I pretending to be some alien with a similar history to the human but avoided our mistakes.

"It seen such a shame that they are extinct. They are so alike to us. It seen they had chose the wrong paths on suvival unlike us. Still I will archive their rich history so they won't be forgotten."

Earth excavation site 05 Day 36;

These creatures known as humans that inhabited this planet must of been these other intelligent lifeforms that we have always theorised could have existed in the universe. From preliminary studies we can determine that these creatures, while not as advanced as ourselves, could have been around the same level of intelligence as us. Looking over many of their technological advances we found basic nuclear power facilities as well as other power generating facilities we believe may be using light from the nearest star. Not only that, we had reports yesterday from excavation site 09 that they had discovered a site which contained remains of very primitive short distance space vehicles, maybe if they were still alive we might have actually come across them out in space at some point.

However this species advances where not limited to science and technology. Our scribes have unearthed as vast variety of different cultures and artistic artifacts. One area our scribes are particularly interested in is the variety languages spoken by these creatures. In the short time we have been here we have discovered over a hundred languages (excluding the dialects) existing in written and audio forms. Base on this our scribes theorise that there could have been thousands of different languages spoken by these creatures, and maybe we will never truly know the exact number.

On a personal note I have been continuing my study of the various religions and customs of the humans. Again there is much diversity, although not much has been gleaned of the details of them. However I have found the remains of one book we believed to have been a holy book of one the human religions. The book was badly burned and alot of the text was indecipherable, but what we gathered from the text is that the followers of this book seem to have believed the that the entire universe and everything in it revolved around the number 42. Why they thought this will remain a mystery until we can find an intact copy of the book, I myself am eager to study more on this religion especially on its deity figure Deepthought.

Okay, firstly unless this alien is some kind of hive-mind where everyone agrees with everyone and there is no division and they love the planet and live in mud huts that decompose into unicorns and rainbows, then I bet they are just as bad as us.

Which is to say, not that friggin' bad. Seriously, humanity gets a bad rap I think, sure we've fucked up, we've fucked up loads, but consider out achievements. We activelly spend time, money, resources and our own lives to help others, whether it be with charity, protests or even something as simple as voting for what we believe. We are curious little buggers as well, not content to dwell in ignorance, but instead finding out how things work, and then using these things to improve the lives of others.

Face it, humans aren't assholes. The reason humans have had such a bad effect on the planets health, have had world wars and eat up resources where as animals don't, isn't because the animals are so much better than us, they just can't do those things.

Geez guys, have a little pride in your species, we aren't so bad.
Why on't people listen to this guy? Someone show me a species that has put men on the Moon. Only humanity? There.

I would be appalled.

-They waste natural resources and multiply their population as if they've got 10 more Earths waiting for them.
-They fight wars and blow each other up because they don't agree on the same imaginary supreme being of the universe.
-The greatest of them invent wonderous things... the Internet, fiber optics, etc, but the vast majority of the population use the Internet to post self-indulgent musings on this "facebook," or use its anonymity to annoy each other, or what they call "trolling."
While I admire your "holier than thou" bleeding heart, I disagree. While some of these things may be true, the way you're speaking, it's as if all other intelligent races are better than us; that they don't pollute and cause violence and use advanced technology for entertainment. Did you not once consider that we may be on of the few species in the universe that divulge in art, music, philosophy and charity? We are just as likely to be the best of all possible creatures than we are the worst. Though "Toddlers and Tiaras" and "Jersey Shore" are good arguments against my beliefs.

"Wow those guys sure achieved a lot and were pretty awesome, shame about the ones who never did anything but complain about how shit everyone else was. If only they weren't too busy thinking about how much better they are then the rest of the human race they could have done something productive or appreciated the amazing feats their species had achieved."

Can't really answer as I am human and have a human perspective. I have no concept of what humanity would seem like from an outside perspective, especially if I don' know what that perspective is.

What kind of alien are we talking?, what differs them from us?, what set of values do they have if any?, do they even perceive reality in the same way?.
Reverse the roles then if that helps. Perhaps you are the human discovering an extinct alien civilization. I'm going for the "outsider looking in" approach in this thread.
That would only help if I assumed these aliens had similar values to our own.

Assuming that, then I wouldn't be surprised. Life tends to follow a certain pattern and things tend to repeat themselves.

Everything happens for a reason, however obscure.

Basically this. I really couldn't explain anymore.

From THAT point of view, I would just be confused. With no frame of reference for any of the things humans had created, none of it would make sense.

However, from an inside point of view, I love my species. I love how paradoxical we are. I love our pointless inventions and actions. I love how despite our greedy, self indulgent nature, we still manage to be awesome. Whenever a movie, book or game comes along that pits us against another species, I ALWAYS root for my home team, no matter how hard the movie/game/book tries to make us the bad guys.

GO HUMANITY!!!

FINISHED REPORT ON THE RACE CALLED MAN

The planet earth had a infection called man and on this man it too was infected with parasites. Microscopic organisms that crawl on their faces at night. Thankfully mankind has come to an end, this bottom feeder worked it's way to the top of the food chain. From the primordial waste the crawl and destroyed itself. A bag of organs a structure of cells best to have not evolved into this barbaric creature.

These earthlings tried to put a face on creation they invented a morality crutch, to hide itself from it's own nature. It seems there purpose was to destroy they were born with a instinct for extinction they killed everything. The smart ones who knew how much of a waste of time and space they were killed themselves.

The human body had 3 primary objectives:

1. Procreate
2. Food intake
3. The elimination of waste

This is what they have become the end result of human stupidity a mesh of flesh with no dignity. A solid waste with dull neuronal activity they played king of the hill on a mountain of shit mirroring what we're worth.

They are nothing but a failure Evolution took a shit now Humankind in its own shit resides.

My perspective and insight into the human race is that it was nothing more then SHIT.

They were beautiful, ingenious and so much like ourselves... I would mourn their passing and tell my people back at home whatever so we could try to avoid the same fate.

Startled, because I was a pessimistic whiner who thought that humanity would nuke itself into oblivion when it first learned to split the atom, and yet despite the misery that certain members of the species choose to wallow in, the human race survives. The species as a whole knows that every generation faces its share of problems and hardship and that only a small percentage of the population has believed these times were the end times, shouting their doomsday rhetoric from the rooftops without a trace of irony of the fact that people have been doing it since we first learned how to speak a language.

No, humanity continues on, each new generation solving problems and facing new ones, and it is often a very small if vocal percentage of people that believe we're a hopeless example of sentient life, and refuse to see any perspective but the one given to them by Fox News during a Democratic presidency. The old generation lament the changing times and believe them to be a mark of mankind's final moments, even if those changes are at best cosmetic in nature. People browse FaceBook instead of the ice-cream social? Yeegads, Beelzebub must be nary a day's ride on the horizon! The young generation look at the state of affairs and believe their problems are the only problems, that for some reason the issues they face are wholly unique and no generation before them has ever faced its like. Here's a news flash - disease and recession and wars happen all over the world. People in China went about their lives without realizing or caring that there were wars going on in Europe a thousand years ago. The only reason you even realize it's happening today is because we have media networks now, not because some angel came down from the heavens and blew seven trumpets at you.

The rest of us - those of us with a sense of reason and the tact to not take every article of bad news in a newspaper clamoring for attention as a sign of the Beast's return - know that the world has always teetered on the brink of something bad, and yet when the chips were down humanity tightened its belt and persevered. I know this because Hitler is now a tired internet meme and a poster child for Glenn Beck's teary-eyed "my America is dying of teh cansker!" doomsday rhetoric, and not the aging God Emperor of an ethnically cleansed Earth.

So seriously. Lighten up. You think you got it bad? Two words. Bubonic Plague. "Oh I can't afford my mortgage payments!" Try whining when you're living in a neighborhood of disease corpses. I bet you could pay off your bills then: house prices would plummet. Maybe you should all get on your knees and whip each other other until God makes it better, huh? Earthquake in Haiti, Tsunamis threatening nuclear winter in Japan? Shoot, those guys sucked it up and fought through it, so you can damn well eighty-six that belly-aching and start contributing to the solutions instead of running off to the hills with a bottle of Feeny water and palette of canned beans to hide in a ditch until the angels tell you the Rapture is over, you tiresome windbags of doom.
